  1. I figured it was implied;)
  2. Thank you for your input.
  3. UPDATE: The wife and I went back and forth...we originally went with a dell studio 17" with intel core 2 duo processor, 4gb SDRAM, 17" HD+ 900p true life, and the upgraded ATI 512MB video card, all for $800, but we cancelled it and went with a cheaper inspiron 17"..same intel core 2 duo, 17" HD+ WLED screen, the standard intel accelerator video card, 4gb SDRAM, for about $600, and I think my wife is happier due to the lower price, and she may actually prefer how the inspiron looks as well. The vostro seemed a bit too chunky/square/business looking for her, she wanted something a bit sleeker and more personal, which at first the studio seemed to fit, but I think the inspiron will be a nice compromise with price and form factor. Thanks for all your help.
  4. 21! Now you can finally drink...legally... Take care.

    Canjam 2010.

I believe your fix was redundant, the phrase "pre-game" or the verb version "pre-gaming" already implies that the act of drinking is involved, correct?
  6. Being filipino, I have seen my fair share of the oldtimers eating balut by cracking it open with a screwdriver and everytime it pretty much makes me sick.
  7. Last question...is there a real quality difference between the WXGA+ anti glare display and the WXGA+ True Life display? They were both the same price, and the True Life is no longer offered even though it was there a couple of days ago.
  8. ...pics...?
  9. I figured as much, considering the box and that I would imagine you would have more than one channel of output:p
  10. More info and pics of Colin's spud amp please:)
  11. Is that a TentLabs constant current filament supply I see in the back there? Noice.
  12. Thanks Dave - right now it seems the Dell is a good option for my budget and my wife's use. Thanks everyone for your input.
  13. Thanks Dave - sorry Tkam:p EDIT: In response to Dave's comments, yes my wife is primarily dealing with digital camera pictures and editing, nothing overly professional or huge by any means. And to throw another wrinkle in the mix, whereas before my wife was pretty pro PC anti mac for unknown reasons to me (though my opinion really doesn't count in this matter as I am really just a wallet for this situation), she has thrown out there that she wouldn't be directly opposed to a Mac, which I guess now opens up Macbook options which I believe are supposed to be a little better for multiple window processing and maybe photoshop.
  14. Thanks Dusty - that dell with the upgraded WXGA+ display and the nvidia card puts it around $738, which is fine for me considering my wife has been slaving for 2.5 years on her MBA, the holiday season, and because she never asks for anything and it will be nice to spoil her for once in her life. My proposed $600 budget simply stems from her telling me to keep it there, as she is the type of person who actually would get very upset if I spent too much on a gift for her, even more motivation to try to get her something somewhat nice.
  15. Not necessarily, but if the honey wants it, I can at least explore the feasibility of it. $600 is not rock solid and if needed can go over but its good to start somewhere. Thanks Dusty for being willing to follow up on that, research continues.
  16. Warning: complete laptop newb, heads-up. Looking at getting my wife a new laptop, christmas/MBA graduation gift. Budget is $600 max. Biggest application will probably be the new adobe photoshop 8 that I bought her as well, she loves taking pics and the new laptop should be powerful enough to load full resolution pics pretty fast and for her to edit and adjust with ease. We are windows PC people, sorry mac users, and for her, ease of use as well as her picture stuff are her priorities. Thanks.
  17. Yeah Cotto is no joke a great fighter, but just goes to show you how dominant Pacquiao has become. Gotta love the fact he is willing to go in deep and mix it up, risking taking a punch if necessary. Only one left is Mayweather at this point.
  18. I concur - this was through Doug's solid state balanced and l'espressivo with 6c45 tubes. I will give it another shot before sending it to Florida to meet up with Asr and I believe I have my foobar already setup software wise that is the "recommended" method for best performance. As of now my silver discs on the 508.24 have a more clear, dynamic sound that has a bit more life.
  19. jeez nate great work. Gotta love the LED bias for sure. Great grounding scheme. Definitely interested in seeing the complete schematic.
  20. There is the admiral off of lawrence of course, however I wouldn't be aware or knowledgeable of such things.
  21. Just a heads-up for everyone planning or thinking of coming to Canjam. We have 6 of those rooms total like you see in the pic, each one can accomodate 20-25 people comfortable, more if you take out those inner tables. On the same floor are two massive rooms which can accomodate about 175 people in a auditorium style seating or 60-70 people in your U shape formation. Then we have the whole floor upstairs that has rooms which are twice as big as the room you see above, I think we have 8 up top. Plus all the common meeting lobby space with full sets of furniture on each floor, plus the balcony outside. This venue makes canjam 2010 the biggest venue in terms of square footage of listening and common space.
  22. Nope just a temporary thing that will probably end up going back to Doug so he can use some of the parts inside for other projects, though the thing sounds so good I may just keep it here and case it up.
  23. Ha, took me awhile to get that one, middle school kids getting me so slllloooooowwwww. Yes battery power does indeed rock, and if I needed more voltage (which I don't think I do), I could wire another 9v in series for 18v. A lot of the people on DIYaudio have their B1's rigged up with 2 9v's in series, about as quiet as it can be. Knowing Nelson Pass' sense of humor, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some connection;)
  24. Well finally a "real" preamp came in the other day ago. Its a little first watt B1 buffer that Doug quickly jerryrigged for me to help pass the time until I get my real beast. He slapped on some cinemags on the input so that I could use my balanced out on the meridian, and its powered by a single 9 volt. The sound is pretty fantastic if I say so myself.
