Birthday beers! Have a good one.

Thanks Larry. I am sure it is a great sounding and working piece of kit, its just a lot of cash for the one specific purpose I need it for. I may just get one of those compositor video transmitters, by all accounts the bandwidth should be fine and they are rated at 75 ohms.

I like my posts.

Hi, Basically I want this: http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-D2 but without the dac. I want to send the output from my oppo wireless to any one of the DACS that may be across the other side of the room. Maybe radio shack has something, figured I'd ask if anyone used such a device.

The a2's came in and I have them installed with the stands. Watching some dark knight and the audio is a clear improvement. Plenty of movie bass and impact with plenty of volume. The oppo down mixing is excellent, great stereo surround effects and the imaging is nice with a straight placement no toe in. The improvement in clarity in dialog and overall is ridiculous, but the quality of my free panny soundbar with 10% thd that was on the ground was suspect Happy camper! Thanks guys. Edit: have no idea why my pics are being rotated, but they are attaching normally I swear.

Ordered. Should land here Wednesday. Considering my current soundbar specs at 10% thd at minimum dialog should sound clearer Would love the A5's but location is limited to on the same tv shelf with TV and only have about 4" clearance.

Just wanted to update. We've had our panny 55" gt50 and absolutely love it. Both the wife and I were impressed with how much more pop the image has than our g25. The blacks are pretty insane. This past Wednesday we had a calibrator come in and calibrate the set and wow did it make a difference. I was using the thx modes and they were really nice, but after his service menu grayscale adjustments and user setting adjustments in custom mode the picture is in another league. Even my wife commented how much better it looked as soon as she saw the post calibrated set. Normally it is $400 but the guy I went through offered a $200 calibration for sets that have limited calibration options like the gt50. Was easily worth it IMO.

OK I've got the a2 and the little stands loaded up in my amazon cart, the one thing holding me back is volume output. I am about 11 ft viewing/listening distance, is there enough output from those tiny speakers? They are advertised as near field computer speakers so I fear they may end up sounding too small at my distance.
-
Well I just measured how much clearance there is between the edge of the tv and the cabinet, and guess what, it's exactly 4 inches each side, meaning the a2 can sit right on the corner and it won't block any viewing area. The oppo can control volume and I can have it down mix to stereo, its audio processing is supposed to be excellent so I doubt I'll miss much of the supposed surround effect from my soundbar, which can go upstairs to the g25. Happy days.

Those look nice but are definitely over budget for my application and need. If I were to do $1000 plus I'd probably do Jordan mltl which I can get for just under $1000 shipping included from Jordan USA (they have the ead e100hd which replaces the jx92s). Definitely staying with powered bookshelves for now.

No go on wall mounts due to wife non acceptance Take a look at the attached pic - you have about 8" on each side of the furniture. I'm thinking A2 and just set on ground to the sides of furniture, I believe they have adjustable risers to angle them up. Can't be any worse than the cheapo soundbar on the ground. They have a volume control but I can do volume from the oppo analog out as well. Last call for any cheaper options than the audioengine a2 at $200 for powered bookshelves? Edit. Not sure why the uploaded is flipping my pic upside down. We do not have an anti gravity chamber I assure you.

My god where the hell is my brain...sorry guys it appears the obvious solutions are escaping me thanks Dan.

If I do a separate amp will probably have to be class d for size and heat. Dusty, unfortunately I've got about maybe 8 inches on each side of the TV furniture stand and the left speaker will get hermetically sealed into a wall. Not enough land on the furniture as a bookshelf would cover some of the TV. Arg. Don't want to bother with stands so I may need to look at tall and skinny full sized speakers.

http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/a100 Is there anything out there smaller/cheaper? Would have to fit in my cabinet, which could output to those $99 pioneer bookshelves people have been raving about.

I'm getting pretty excited about this now that I've looked at getting that cheapie soundbar upstairs with the g25. I don't have room for a full 5.1 unfortunately but I am fine with having the oppo down mix everything to 2 speakers. I'm also having a variety of hdmi handshake issues since I have my Comcast input to the oppo which then is output to the soundbar and then the tv - analog output from the oppo should clean that up real quick.
-
Marc, which audio engines do you have?
-
Oh god no...active quads here i come
-
Oh I know, if it had analog outputs it would be a no brainer but with its only output being digital (optically I boot) makes the selections a little more limited. Other option is taking the soundbar from the downstairs gt50, bringing that up to the g25, and getting some nice powered speakers for the gt50. I have an oppo103 there and it can down sample to stereo through its analog outputs, and can do volume control too.

Nate, I do have an Apple TV! And while it would work for music through AirPlay, I don't think it can take a digital input from my tv and output to the monitors. But I forgot about audio engine and they may have something I can use. Grahame, it does convert to lpcm 2.0. Dusty amd doug, will definitely take a look.

Hi, I am looking for a set of cheap bookshelves/speakers that can take a digital input from my tv. I just got a new gt50 for the main viewing family room which has a decent sound bar. The g25 that was there went upstairs to the living room, and the stock speakers are real bad. Would love to just take the optical out from the tv, plug them in the speakers, and be done with it. I could have swore such a thing exists but I can't seem to find it. Thanks! If such a thing does not exist, i could also do a small box that would fit inside an entertainment furniture, that would be able to take a digital in, be an integrated amp of sorts, which could output into normal speakers. Yes I know I'm asking for a lot:) thanks.

Heads up to iPhone oppo users - there is a nice remote app that works really well and is super easy to use, very intuitive and simple.

I am a teacher. You do not want to arm teachers, trust me on this. Mental health and how it is diagnosed and treated is a huge issue in America. My school does a good job providing support services as well as identifying said students for professional consultation, and with a full time school psychologist plus an extensive student services team, I feel they are doing the best they can to identify and support students that may have some moderate to severe mental health issues. I don't know much about guns. I've lived in one of the most urban populated areas in the us my whole life in a state that already has some gun control, which i feel is warranted being in such a densely populated area. You don't want people in the city to be able to carry a concealed weapon, and Chicago has done a decent job trying to prevent access to assault rifles. Most of my friends do have some kind of pistol or hunting rifle that they keep out of sight and locked, but I think this situation is completely different and is more about the state of mental health and how we treat and diagnose it than gun control.
