There were some comments on diyaudio about the dodgy build quality of those things, actually. Haven't heard of any dying yet, but I'm not taking a chance.
There's a Pass F3 being sold locally, and I hear they're a "voltage-based" amp. Does this mean they're perfect for Stax transformer boxes? <.< (I am so very, very tempted to pull the trigger on this...)
It is possible to get it out but with Lambdas its very, very hard. You could try your luck by vacuuming the outside of the headphone... be very careful not to damage the protective membrane however.

Nothing wrong with him saying what he thinks, really. I'll take reviews like that over the ones that hype up every piece of new gear like its the best thing since sliced bread, on any day.
