Damage is pretty slick and sick... giving it a test run.

86 that EH 6SN7 ASAP and do your ears a big favor and get a better tube. No question about it. The difference between the stock EH 6SN7 and the NOS replacements Mikhail sent were night and day. With the EH I didn't really like the MPX3, but with the NOS tubes I could have easily lived with that amp and been happy.

If someone said this set-up is the best combo ever it?s a particular person's opinion. As is someone saying X is awesome, broken, or has treble issues or not. Yet after listening to an unfamiliar rig and saying it must be X isn't even entertaining other possibilities. I believe this even applies to a new piece of gear that?s brought into an existing rig. And if something seems off they pass all the blame on that new gear when it as simply could be something else that they?ve not heard as clearly before. I hooked up the Apollo, 508.24, and the Hyper Moth DAC to the ZD while listening with the HD650s, K701s, L3000s, RS-1s, and HD600s and didn?t hear anything wrong nor treble issues all done under ideal listening conditions. And I?ve got major sensitivity to treble that I experienced with the E5, UR4/5/6s, Raptor, and HD650s. And that?s one of the reasons I sold the GS-1000s because with my Apollo, Cardas Neutral and EC2A3, my ears got fatigued in less than an hour. But in another rig I didn't experience the same thing with the GS-1000s. Go figure...

How can you be so sure it was the amp and not something else in the chain? Such as the source, cables, tubes, power supply, music, cd, etc... Or even system synergy that wasn?t to your liking. There are so many factors involved and to isolate it just to the amp isn't improbable, but questionable.
-
The cord is such a little bitch. I put them away after listening in that cheap blue velvet covered cardboard box and I've one hell of a time getting that cord to behave and not tangle. On another note, I need to burn that test CD and give it a listen.

I am not convinced. I am not convinced. We don't need a lot, yet it's wanting more that's the killer.

Sorry, Bob, but I am done with this after this... \ Of course, I never said otherwise. But since you implied this it?s understandable that you might get lead to this conclusion. Apples to apples?amps to amps. Just like you compare the Hornet against other amps. I mean someone keeps everything in the chain the same and samples different amps. If you felt I challenged it that?s your impression, but I only was surprised by it. Especially based on what I?ve previously read and discussed with you. This is new news to me. Again I don?t feel this way, but apparently you may feel I implied it. I might have mentioned different preferences as different people do have them, you know. I didn?t fail to recognize this, it was the point I made. Do you think I meant to apply it to every thing, but EC? Silly. I trust you trust your ears and I?ll trust mine too. I didn?t miss it; I just didn?t mention. I think he is better known around these parts. Don?t you? Does it upset you? What?s wrong? And I don?t always mention, but have a few times. Me too. As do those contacts and associations. Funny it would be a tricked out Denon source. Because I had the same issues with my amp and the K701s when I listened to his mod 3910. I?ve an extremely sensitive ear. But I didn?t have the same issue with my Apollo. And in fact, swapping cables reduced the issue as well. My wife and digipete also noticed it. Never said you were and I know you?re not. So? I?ve started listening to audio equipment in my mother?s womb. My father plays many instruments and I?ve been playing guitar for over two decades, big deal? And you used the same music, source, cables, headphones, etc? every time? never said you were. I am sure you hear it. And it likely could be the amp or the source or a combination of both? I?ve not heard the same thing when I listened to the ZD. You sound pretty spiteful to me right now. But I do believe you are hearing something. I just recanted the facts as I know them to be based on your past posts about this amp. Your opinion has changed drastically. Don?t you think? I can?t be somewhat surprised without you leveling such crap my way. That?s a very biased way to start off with an open mind about something. Is that what you want... to shut me up? I am not saying you?re wrong. I am suggesting that people have different preferences, hear things differently, system synergy is important, and it ?could? be the source too. That might be the issue or it could be that it could be the source or something else going on. I do like EC. I don?t worship. I took a lot of time and care making my amp purchase. And I?ve spent a great deal of time comparing amps with my set-up at the So Cal meet the night I slept over. I?ve spent a good amount of time with that amp. I?ve heard it at Craig?s place at least twice from more than a few hours each time. I?ve heard under ideal conditions at the meet location for about two hours. And then the following day for about 45 minutes to an hour. In fact, I don?t think you?ve even heard the production unit, which isn?t exactly the same as Mike?s. Have you even heard the actual production amp? I am extremely sensitive to it. But I?ve had an experience where I thought it was an amp, but at a later date I?ve reconsidered my assumption and put it to the source. However, I wouldn?t every say that I know for sure that it wasn?t either one or both or a combination of things.

I remember that thread… http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2440429#post2440429 I don’t have full privileges on Head-Fi so searching for stuff I remembered reading is limited. I did my best to find your comparison between those amps, which isn’t always easy. At least I tried instead of just making unsupported claims. And I believed this was the first I heard you prefer the HD25 over the ZD. So no dumb play here, but have you ever heard the K701s with the HD25? And you also sold the 701s, right? I think I said this before but people need to consider every pieces in the audio chain and how they worked together. I even believe someone made a very wise comment about making impressions based on the set-up and not just one particular piece of equipment. Heck, I think it was you. I think that Apples to Apples analogy isn’t really applicable. I mean you compare two amps and pick, which one you like or you like neither or both. I’ve heard a few 5687 tube amps and I’ve spent time listening to the PPX3 balanced Slam and unbalanced one. I still prefer my EC2A3 over those amps, but to each their own and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Earl I am a bit confused? http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1947709&postcount=17 http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1051918&postcount=7 You put the Zana in such a highly esteemed group of SP amps that are your preference amps. And now you?ve intended you like the HD25 better than the Zana. I can only imagine where the HD25 ranks against your favorite SP amps? In fact, I think you're probably in a minority of one that prefers the HD25 over the ZD. I?ve heard (in my home for about a month) the MPX3 upgraded (not the slam version) and thought it was an excellent amp with the right NOS 6SN7 tubes (expensive tubes and hard to find too). I didn?t like the MPX3 at all with the stock tubes electroc-Harmonix. But I thought the EC2A3 sounded better to my ear with the stock tubes. And in the end that?s the amp I bought. I am not lone in preferring the EC2A3 over the MPX3. Look up the old Florida meet impression threads when Tyrion had his EC2A3. And Mikey01 prefers his EC2A3 over the MPX3 and he owned both. The reason I say this is because the design of the EC2A3 is similar to the ZD. I assume there are some design similarities between the MPX3 and the Slam version as well. That being said, I?ve never heard the RS-1s sound better to my ear than when plugged into the ZD. I would surmise that the ZD would retain its value better because they are limited in number. The MPX3 Slam isn?t as exclusive and more readily available whether new or used. In fact, not one of the first run ZD owners has resold one as far as I know. And more people are willing to pay more for the second ZD run. Earl you even wanted to buy a Zana, but couldn't get one.

I?ve pretty much spent a few good hours listening to the Saturn tonight and having let it run since the afternoon here are my first day initial impressions? I think I can safely say the Saturn trumps the Apollo. I am not ready to say it?s substantially better or worth the retail price difference, even though, it?s surprisingly better and noticeably so right out of the box. Here?s the skinny compared against the mighty Apollo? The Saturn has better? detail retrieval, focus and clarity, dynamics and PRAT, quantity and quality bass and.. lower floor noise, more separation between voices and instruments, wider, deeper (bigger) soundstage, and not as upfront as the Apollo.

http://www.zerooneaudio.com/ I think something like this might be the future. I am sure there are very fine hard drive computer based transports, but I've not really been impressed with the ones I've heard as of yet.

thanks I've been having fun today. Found this searching for info about the Apollo, which also received a Gold. HI-FI Choice HIFI Awards 2006 Issue: The REGA Saturn received the Gold Award for "Best CD Player" in its respective price range.

That Moth is still for sale... (pricy) I found another Moth amp a few days ago. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstube&1169665578 I've never seen so many Moth listings in such a short timeframe.

Just curious. It?s convenient to have all your tunes on a hard drive, but in general I would like to know what's considered better (if one is) minus the convenience factor. quality transport or hard drive >> to DAC
-
Actually another individual designed the Moth DAC you heard at the meet. But that same designer also built this proto for Craig. So I guess the goal is to make it better than the first one. I still can?t believe that DAC was made in the late 90s or something. And I believe Craig uses it to voice his amps. I might have missed this, but are you using a transport or hard drive? I wonder what difference, if any, does it make because I?ve felt either the one box source or transport DAC my ear favored over the hard drive DAC set-ups.

But not at your cost. Chalk up those little losses as part of the game and a learning experience. And nothing compares to hearing it in your system with your ears for as long as you wish; there?s value in that. I hate wondering how something might sound so I'd rather buy it, experience it and then decide to keep or sell it. The more stuff I hear the more I learn and losing a bit here and there is part of the process at least of me. Yet I don't think you're buying new and I assume you?re looking for decent deals. I assume you are having some fun too. And when you find that source sound that pleases you, you'll appreciate it more; and it takes some trial and error too because without sampling stuff you don?t really have anything to gauge one thing against another. On a somewhat related note, Craig (AKA Eddie Current) just got a new proto Moth DAC. Last I heard he?s been listening to it pretty much all day. If it goes into production it might be something to consider since I assume you liked the ZD set-up at the So Cal meet. Anyway, good luck and keep your eye on the big picture enjoying the music.

If you haven't checked out the Audio-Video Forum, you should.... Here's the link: http://www.avsforum.com/ They might give specifics. I recently got a 50" Pioneer (5070). Based on my research, it's thought it?s best to sit about 8 to 9 feet from the 50" HDTV otherwise the further back you sit the less you actually can appreciate the HD content. Yet I am not sitting that close, probably around 10 feet. I?ve also read (from more than one source) sitting further back from the sweet spot it?s next to impossible to tell the difference between a true HDTV (1080) and one that?s close or converting up. I had originally thought I was going to get a Panasonic. It seemed based on my research it was the best choice. But once in the stores and I went to tons to my eye I thought the Pioneer overall was better. I don?t know much about the HDTVs you are considering. But you should really watch them with your own eyes before you make your purchase.

Turkey breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so large that the turkeys fall over. Turkeys have been bred to have white feathers. White feathers have no spots under the skin when plucked. Eating turkey does not cause you to feel sleepy after your Thanksgiving dinner. Carbohydrates in your Thanksgiving dinner are the likely cause of your sleepiness. Forty-five million turkeys are eaten each Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving...
