I bet you'll find much more listening enjoyment with your new source and you won't need to jack the volume up either. If you decide to listen loud (on occasion and taking breaks when you do ) I think the new source will greatly reduce the likelihood that you'll experience this ringing again.
-
What CD player were you listening to when you noticed this ringing in your ears? I assume it wasn't the $5000 source, and if not--what pricy source did you buy? I can listen at pretty loud levels, if I wish. But it is dependent on the recording quality of the CD and I don't do it for long and thereafter take a break. In my experience with the HD650s and different amps and sources--I would first point my finger at the source. Though, it is best to listen at moderate levels. The only time I had such ringing in my ears was with the E5 -> UR4 -> Raptor -> HD650s. It went way after a day or two, but returned almost immediately when I went back to listening to this set-up and at moderate levels. I changed interconnects to the M-Paths, which helped. At the time I blamed the amp and interconnects, but after more time with different sources I firmly believe the E5 had been mainly responsible for this phenomenon.

When I looked for the leatherheads only one pair showed up on Audiogon. And from that point on I regularly peruse the listings there and have not seen another. I've only seen one pair on eBay about 18 months ago. Yet there have been at least a handful exchange hands, if not more, on Head-Fi. So, IMO, you're best bet is Head-Fi or here. If not for Iron_Dreamer sending a reserve pm on my behalf, I doubt I would have scored my pair. I'll keep an eye out, and if one pops up I'll try to reserve them for you. Fingers Crossed!

thanks! no nib--it's not a fountain pen, but a roller. but you could just be messing with me, if so I am clueless
-
Thanks. Can't or don't even want to think about that. \

well, I've been hesitant to post this--but I recently received this pen as a gift. I am afraid to take it out of the house. Krone Precious Metals Collection - Sterling Roller (pic doesn't do it justice--it's classy in an understated old-school vintage way)

six months--no shit--no exaggeration? If so, that's completely unprofessional and utter BS. What's the reason--everyone's get a reason--so what's Mikhail's? Sorry to hear about this Charlie. The L3000s are sick. They pick up everything. I guess with new tubes it's been great--spots the duds right away. The HD650s are oblivious. I've had the GS-1000s, RS-1s, SR-225s, and the A900s but nothing matches the sensitivity of the L3000s. I sampled the L3000s on many many amps and on most I could detect a minor background noise or even worse. I am very lucky my EC2A3 is very quiet and probably the quietest tube amp I've heard with the L3000s. When I spent the night guarding the equipment at the last SoCal meet I went around to nearly every amp at the studio that intereted me so I should know. In fact, I wouldn't have bought the L3000s if my amp didn't seem dead silent with them.

saw Rocky Balboa last night--it's wasn't half bad, in fact, I enjoyed it.

karma or some greater power is trying to teach you the benefits of exercising patience

here's the Zu Cable page

amazing... that's why people need to hear stuff for themselves. did you compare those cables back-to-back in the same system? And you're talking about the HD650s, correct?
-
Buy them Try them for a few weeks, if they don't float your boat sell them and get that watch. All the recent ones I've seen for sale have sold within a day or two and probably for the asking price too. I've had mixed experiences with the K-1000s. I liked the HP-2s when I heard them, but they didn't offer the same dynamics, impact, bass and soundstage as the L3000s. Though, the HP-2s were very neutral and slightly flat in comparison. But I didn't want to buy the HP-2s after hearing them, yet that happened after hearing the L3000s. I primarily listen to pretty much all things rock related and some jazz. I don't think I've heard a better headphone especially for rock. Some might find the L3000s a bit warm and slightly dark, but they are very musical, transparent, and also for better or worse the most sensitive headphones I've ever heard.

Best I don't know, but there are different flavors that each cable can offer. Also, it depends what flavor your ear prefers. I don't know much of anything about grandenigma and [ak]zip cables. I personally don't like the cardas cable with the HD650s (single-ended). IMO, bloated, thick, slow, etc... (I've heard them on a few systems and the same or similar experience). I liked the Equinox cable when I heard it single-ended. Though, the stock cable isn't half bad. But if I was to upgrade I would most likely get the Equinox cable since it greatly improves on the stock cable while remaining true to the original sound signature. Another option I've looked into is the Zu cable, but only based on what I've read it provides a very different sound--almost making the HD650s Gradoish--what I mean is more upfront and bright. It would be ideal to listen to a few cables and let your own ear decide.

another offshoot forum... that's a good one!

On the ball, EdipisReks and I did not know.

Suggestions... How about some headphone smilies? And even adding some better ones since the one sticking out the tongue as an example isn't so clear. Possibly finding a smilie that you could call the postjack could be fun.

this isn't cool, sorry to say this is in the far-out lame category, let's just forget this little forum request happened and you'll acheive your goal of making this place better! OK.

Well, I hope your hearing is far better than that color-blind eyesight. Colorful nuances make the world a beautiful place. Even B&W photos display shades of grey. I just don't get that blanket B&W attitude either.
