First, congrats! I am happy to see you've scored a pair. I'll be patience to read your impressions. Yes, I received the Connolly hand signed document. And based on your pics the cable looks like it's stock, but without seeing it in person and comparing it against another pair I can't be sure. The Cardas doc card is in Japanese, but does it mention ATH-L3000 or Audio-Technica anywhere in it? I might consider calling Cardas and/or emailing Audio-Technica to inquire as to whether the cable is made by Cardas. It just might be. \ I am going to look at my L3000 docs again.

I didn't get Cardas docs w/ my L-3000s. In all my research this is the first I've heard that the L-3000s come stock with cardas wire and I've never seen such paperwork included (as stock) with the L-3000. But some have done aftermarket mods with cardas cable.

Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
909 replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
Didn't you loan the ZD to a friend and couldn't get the ZD to power on because of an issue with the power cord or something like that? Anyway, do you need the ZD in the chain to power the K1000s? I bet it's the tubes. The K1000s are more sensitive 120 (ohms) than your HD650's 300 (ohms). My HD65os were obvious to certain noisy tubes that L3000 easily picked up. -

headphones? (potentially, but unlikely) Not necessarily so... I think not- he most likely would have said something before you borrowed it. that's a possibility--didn't you have a problem with the ZD's power cord? (how did you resolve that?) in my book, all logical assumptions. You need to experiment--try differnt jacks in your place--remove the outlet power strip, etc--(I don't think it's your source or the cables). If you rule out the power, you then could eliminate the headphones by trying a few different amps. And it might be the F1, but humanflyz probably would have told you about it. I doubt you did something to it, though, you never know. It's probably the ZD. Realizze Craig didn't design it to drive or even power the K1000s. (I don't know, but it could be picking up/amplifying the hum from something and just because it doesn't get louder when you increase the volume doesn't rule out the ZD. -

or it could be the other way around that is the opinion you hold isn't your own. insecurity isn't thinking for one's self. He wasn't asking you to leave, but making a point.

wait until you get the B-52 I never had such ear pain as I did with the Raptor--needed to crank it up for the music to sound right because otherwise it had a thin presentation. The B-52 is as far as I understand it two slightly upgraded Raptors. And Ray probably voices his amps with either the 508.24 and the G08, which are full and silky smooth sounding sources. Though, the G08 has some unnatural sound qualities and can flavor the sound a bit processed and digitalized. Can't forget Ray listens very loud and assuming that's where his amps are optimized. isolation booth (disassembled and assembled pics--please)

just got here... but the site seems to moves like a hare \

you can read pretty much all about it here in the don't use Head-Fi's resources thread.
-
yes, I agree. As far as I know only one is in existence and is now owned by jp11801. But I've pretty much provided all the info I know about the HD-2 (AKA-odin). If enough people start bugging Craig about it. It might result in a small run.

Has he heard even one RS Audio amp? If he has, has he compared it against any other headphone amps such as Eddie Current, HeadAmp, HeadRoom, SinglePower, Woo, etc... Much of the info that is provided in those pro mag reviews and such people like Great Northern Sound is just regurgitate information. Most of these people have spent little time with headphones or even headphone amps. And where do they get most, if not all, of that info--guess (big hint--head-fi). RSA amps aren't bad--but they are overpriced, overrated and over-hyped--and without hearing/comparing a few amps you'll never know what you actually like. It's unforunate, but true. All I can say is trust your own ears and test a few amps. And after you've done so if you still want to sink $5K into the B-52 by all means go right ahead. As long as you know, you're picking an extremely expensive amp after doing your homework.

You've not delved deep enough into the Head-Fi search engine, but if you take the time to look you'll find negatives. On Head-Fi you mainly see the outside of the chassis, but here you see the inside. And usually the truth is somewhere in the middle. A lot of what you read on Head-Fi is sheer customer mania. And there's other stuff such as some manufacturers are ignored or not liked (during different periods) whereas I believe Ray built his first headphone amp at jude's suggestion and has always pretty much maintained a good relationship with those running that site.

I've not seen Tyrion beating the RS drum as of recent.
-
The Raptor has had many recalls/changes within the last few years of it's release as had the Hornet. Raptor: issue w/ chassis hum issue driving low impedance headphones power supply heat issue... ($50 partial or $200 full) (might be more don't know) Hornet: issue w/ the original jacks (too loose) different cap even the replacement jacks are loose and some (as I have had) killed the cap as a result of the loose connection with the "new" jacks then the "M" modification.... ($15)
-
You should, at least, consider other amps besides the B-52. And yes, I've heard it. But, IMO, it's overpriced and overrated.
-
If you do it, I would put the rack outside and have a small hole just for the headphone cable to run through since any noise from your source and amp (if it makes any) will only get heightened and amplified in that dead quiet listening isolation booth.
-
planting seeds... what about one forming their own opinion without external influences. I bet if you bitch with all these negative comments to the Senn rep and ask and push politely for the HD600s you might just get it. I can't see them ever returning to you your personal HD580s at this point.
-
First--be thankful they upgraded you because I believe those are more expensive than the 580s. I suppose they probably had an option to give you refurbished instead of new. And why not see if you like these before you start making calls. Unless you have to have the 580s, which at this point may not even be a possibility.
