i am a crazy packer -- i bet i could pack it well enough to survive shipping, but finding that screw or something that would achieve the same end would be ideal.

i can't say i disagree with much of what has been said in this "meet impressions" thread, but it appears everyone in this business has their achilles heel. and in my experience nitpicking and bitching about it isn't going to change a damn thing nor can i see it as something that builds up our hobby either. my biggest gripe is if i feel something is way overpriced and slick marketing or salesmanship. it is unfortunate in our hobby, the good businessmen tend to succeed financially and i suspect that is high on their priority list. great artists are usually never fully appreciated or understood.

thanks, i can't wait. i haven't even been to the Apple store, so i am pretty excited to get it.

It really depends on condition and where it is sold. In Europe, the Sony PS-X800 Tangential-Biotracer Turntable commands a much higher price than here, but such units that I've seen at dealers overseas have been throughly checked and cosmetically look near perfect. Now this person has been trying to sell his for months HiFiClassifieds :: High end audio components and hifi audio equipment for sale in free classifieds: Turntables, SONY PS-X800 Turntable, I guess he is patient. The seller on Audiogon first asked $1295 then lowered it to $895. Now he's knocked off another $100. One recently sold on eBay in the high $500, but to my eye it wasn't in as good condition and didn't have the original head shell. The seller didn't even mention that fact and never took a close up of it. An original head shell sold for nearly $150 on eBay. I got my table for a deal, but it doesn't work perfectly, though, I know how to get it to working. Most of these have or develop issues with the servo in the arm not working right -- so it can be temperamental at times and especially the first time you want it to work. I would be hesitant to have it shipped, but if the seller is being forthright and it is fully functional and in near perfect condition with a dust cover, I'd say his price isn't unreasonable. But it certainly isn't a great deal. Probably another $100 off would be decent deal, $200 off would be a great deal and anything more than $300 off, I might bite.

yup, that's the one i saw. it's impressive just on looks alone.

i think i saw your volume pot -- very cool! Craig also seemed excited to use it as well.

zippy2001 has won the the Grover Huffman 1M RCA interconnects. Congrats, Steve!

very true , John. i guess i am still sore at Emission Labs since my first pair of EML-2A3-S had issues within the first year.
-
i thought the same thing. here's another concern... how long will the emission labs last as they are only under warranty for one year or 2000 hours, whatever comes first and it does not cover low hum of aging.
-
approximately $699 plus shipping. finding nos or even still testing strong can be even more costly and due to rarity is exceedingly difficult just to find.

you both make decent points -- possibly, but still if someone is willing to pay $3K on a headphone surround sounding system (which I don't know if it includes the headphones) is probably more likely than not to have some seriously decent headphones already or possibly even own those particular headphones. the 1000 number still seems artificial and a bit contrived to me especially since they aren't going to require buyer 1001 (assuming they sell that many) to have to buy the package. imo, limiting potential customers is a mistake and even more so with a new product. and heck, the product is already limited enough in that it only works with 5.1 productions/recordings.
-
wonder, if he's already got 1000 stax headphones. \ makes no sense to limit the pool of potential customers as some may not want those cans or even already own them
-
they were willing to measure and let me use my L3000s, but time permitting and the number of people waiting to hear it, i decided against it.
-
nothing set in stone, but it seemed something in the 3K range. i didn't see any gaming only just using it as a dvd player to demo their set-up.

Thank you to everyone that participated and supported our event, which not only made it a reality, but made it a success on many, many levels. Craig (aka Eddie Current) was the first vendor to get a table. Two of the guys from Smyth Research flew in from the UK. Ray and Mikhail flew out too. Andy (aka blubliss) bought two more tickets than needed to support the event at the early stages. Additionally, he along with FrankCooter and Smyth all brought a load of gear on their own pallet unlike anything I’ve seen before at a local meet. Zippy2001 supplied the free CDs to every eticket attendee and the cool CD and vinyl boxset door prizes plus printed out the nametags with avatars. Edwood handled directions and the floor map. Velogreg put together the gear list. And after the meet Iron_Dreamer took pics of the hotel for CJ09. If I forgot anyone, I apologize, and thanks again to everyone. oh, ASR flew out as well and Grover Huffman donated his newest RCA cables, which will ship to a lucky winner shortly. I didn’t get to do a ton of listening, but here is the first thing I heard and a few more things as the meet was winding down. P-51 Mustang – This thing is just a little larger than a wooden stick matchbox. As a gadget geek I totally appreciated the small coolness factor. It sounded pretty good considering it was an ultra-tiny portable amp, though, the 508.24 source and R10 headphones didn’t hurt. Smyth Research – WOW! This is some sick new technology. It really replicates that movie listening experience and the home theater 5.1 surround sound. I still have a hard time believing what I was hearing wasn’t actually speakers, but headphones. SinglePower – I didn’t get an opportunity to listen to the ES-2 again as I had wanted, but thought the SDS XLR sounded really great and the MPX3 sounded very nice. It certainly helped to have those quality sources feeding it (APL 3.0 and the Audio 5 Signature). I am not a huge R10 fan, but I have to admit on blubliss’ SDS XLR with music that generally isn’t my cup of tea they still sounded awfully good and that speaks a lot about the greatness of his system. FrankCooter – I am still pissed we couldn’t resolve that hum. Even now, I wish I would have thought/suggested that we move you into the Marina room to see if that would have done the trick. Given what most surmised to be a ground loop issue, I’d have to say that still I could hear the greatness. Not only does your stuff look absolutely stunning, but sounds every bit as nice. I hope everyone had a good time and don’t forget CJ09 is only SEVEN months away!
