  1. Yeah, I remember WAY back in the HF days on those "Darkest Desires" threads where us two, Jazz, Eyeteeth, and Enverxis (and I am sure a bunch of others) had a lot of musical overlap in terms of taste, and then we'd all have that bit of unique taste that differed from the rest of crowd. That's what makes the discussion fun - that bit of differing taste can really lead to revising of opinions as well as finding new music. I'd have to say that one's ideal mix of atmosphere and ambiance in music like this is highly individualized. I am a total sucker for that spacey keyboard sound, but I am also very picky, because it can be either overdone or paired with really bad music. That's not to say that the EP is guilty of either, rather, that album just struck me as a bit uninspired. Your story of your friend reminds me of my wife. We are essentially clones except when it comes to musical tastes. She's more into the alternative rock scene, which is fine. She still has not gotten used to my stuff, but she puts up with it. We can agree on stuff like Pearl Jam, Dido, and Tori Amos though, so that is what gets the most airtime when she's not in the mood to hear my stuff. Seriously though, I think you might like that Disperse album I mentioned.
  2. Dusty: your comments made me go back and listen to their entire discography so I can comment with fresh impressions. No use going further with stale memories of some of the tracks. Good thing I did, since listening to the material gave me new perspective of some material and more concrete opinions of other material. First off, ADHD was not as bad as I remembered overall. I still hate "Hyperactive" even though it accomplishes musically what it set out to do: depict a spastic and frantic lifestyle that first world countries have embraced. The last three tracks are the best on that album, and I really like the ending of the album. Riverside always did have a great ability to come up with great electronic sounds. Regarding the trilogy of the first three albums, my longstanding love for Out Of Myself is unchanged. It is by far their best album as a whole. All of the things I like best about Riverside are best displayed on that album: outstanding atmosphere, spacey keyboards, Gilmour-esque guitar parts, and the overall mood. Second Life Syndrome has a few songs that are of that caliber as well such as "After", "Conceiving You", "Second Life Syndrome", "I Turned You Down", and "Before". With Rapid Eye Movement, the only songs that reach that quality are "02 Panic Room" and the title track which is not even on the standard release. I tried hard to like the Memories In my Head EP, but I found it to be boring as hell. It was a huge letdown for me. As it is now, here is my order of preference: Out Of Myself > Second Life Syndrome > ADHD > Rapid Eye Movement > > > Memories In My Head EP Regarding Mikael Akerfeldt's comments, I completely agree with him. There is no sense in writing for the fans, because that is not where the heart is. Artists should write what they want, as that is the best way to ensure quality. Having said this, I happen to not like anything Opeth has done since 2003, and Heritage is an abomination. The only thing I like about that album is the short title track. Mikael may want to move forward and evolve, and that's fine with me, but he is as pretentious as fuck when he shits all over modern metal releases and says that metal has been boring since the mid 90's. I get that he has a love affair with prog rock, but he is (or at least was) better at progressive death metal if Opeth's musical direction is anything to go by. Getting back to Riverside, you should really try Journey Through The Hidden Gardens from another Polish band called Disperse. Outstanding album!
  3. Alone, neither were terrible per se, but compared to their first album, Out Of Myself... thats like comparing Heritage to My Arms, Your Hearse - a colossal buzzkill. I have great respect for the band (my God, they are awesome), but I really hope they do not go Opeth on me. The track titles, the album title, and Mariusz's Steven Wilson-esque disdain for modern lifestyle infused song topics are really scaring me though. I really hope my fears are unfounded.
  4. New Riverside album early next year! http://www.riversideband.pl/en/news/557-riverside-qshrine-of-new-generation-slavesq-release-date-cover-artwork-and-the-tracklist Please do not be bad like the last album
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. [Ken36]GOOD STUFF![/Ken36]
  7. I know that style is a personal preference kind of thing, but those are hilariously ugly!
  8. Not sure if many of you are following this, but it really has a chance to be a historic storm in New England. Good link to follow: http://www.talkweath...inas-northward/ I hope some of you in the area are stocking up, because this one will be a long ride. Stay safe.
  9. Happy Birthday, guys! Have a good one
  10. 552+7=559 Nadia was my best friend in high school, but it wasn't until Junior year that I persued her. We married on our four year dating anniversary. She is my clone personalitywise in female form. I am eternally thankful to have her.
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. At last! Dead Can Dance's new album "Anastasis" has been released. It is fantastic!
  14. I was at that concert in Devore. It was quite an event. Long story short, Bruce Dickinson made some remarks regarding the state of Ozzy and their TV show throughout the tour, and Sharon retaliated by having "fans" pelt the band with eggs and having the PA power cut numerous times during their set at that concert date. After the set, Sharon came onstage and called Bruce a prick and told her side of the story. Needless to say, the fans were not pleased. There were MANY Maiden fans there. The Sabbath set went on like nothing happened.
  15. Thanks Todd!
  16. Happy Birthday! Hope you had a good one
  17. To mention Audioquest and Grover's products in a thread titled "Ghetto Cables" made me laugh. Just go to an online place like Bluejeans Cable, get what you need, and be done with it. Once you start trying to listen to differences in cables, you might as well hang yourself with them.
  18. Spychedelic Whale: Would it be an overstatement to say that you are a hips and butt person?
  19. Of course the story was forced, but probably not from the singer. Everything on network TV is forced. This guy is the classic "shy outcast who copes by singing" story, but he can sing. He appears to be a nice guy, he's not afraid to look different, and he can sing something that is counter to his looks and predominant age group musical preferences. More power to him, I say.
  20. Saw it. I hope he stays with that look and see where it takes him. Great singer, and for the love of everything good, please stay with true Opera. None of this sell-out adult contemporary crap.
  21. Piggybacking off that last photo: From: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2154447/Inside-stunning-waves-Hawaii-Pair-photographers-capture-setting-sun-sparkling-crystal-waters.html
  22. That is AWESOME, blessingx! I am definitely using that next year in my class. Thanks Dusty, the Appalachians are pretty dominant in that area. Not that tornadoes are stopped dead in their tracks by mountains (because many have tracked into the southern Appalachians), the area around WV disrupts the ingredients necessary for tornado formation.
  23. Amen. Crusaders like that idiot are a self-righteous bunch who get turned on by the text that they write.
