  1. Welcome to the 50+ crowd!
  2. Happy B-Day!
  3. I spent the day doing geek stuff, specifically building a couple of cables to feed the RD7 energizer I bought from Birgir. I am not a cable making kind of guy but I figure why not try it, so I bought a lot of parts from Monoprice.com which arrived yesterday. Not very expensive for a 25 foot roll of 14 gauge speaker wire and 6 speaker plugs, plus some heat shrink and two sets of banana plugs from Radio shack. I guess less than $60 spent and I was able to make two short (3 foot long) connections for SRD7 plus two (6 foot long) speaker leads for the office. Anyway here is a picture, still need to wipe off the excess glue and find some red heat shrink for the right connectors (afraid they may touch).
  4. Congrats to all! I remember going through the top clearance process and my neighbors coming over and being worried because an FBI agent had interviewed them. Funny now but at the time 25 years ago it was not. Funny thing is I never took the job.

I am planning on using it to send music to the A/V system in the living room.

I ordered one as well. Thanks.
  8. Happy B-Day!
  9. An AT ESW9 right here, ...
  10. The new Office 2007 is very slow compared with 2000 or 2003. Since I am wide awake I decided to at least be productive and work from home.
  11. Wide awake! can't sleep ... if this keeps up I will be calling in requesting the day of work.
  12. Right now they are on top of a pair of floorstanders while they get some used connected to the A/V. The +/-30 hours of use have opened them up quite a bit and they are sounding much better, even the bass is coming out of hiding. Once they get about 8 days of home use I will take them to the office to be part of my office rig driven by a vintage Marantz 2238B.
  13. Washed and waxed the car, yeah it was fun since I had it done by a local shop. It is ok to see others sweat while I am in a/c office.
  14. That is pretty cool to know, thanks.
  15. Happy B-Day!
  16. Saturday is possible for me (not the weekend of July 24/25 since I will be in Fort Myers).
  17. It will be great if you can make it, the venue is great and I really liked Fort Myers at night for dinner/entertainment. Hope you are doing well.
  18. Hi Vicky, Carl will try to see if you and Dom can meet (at his restaurant) for a late lunch sometime over the next couple of weeks. If you can make it let me know and I can bring an external USB HD with about 700 Jazz albums for you to try. Cheers.
  19. Was looking for a pair of small speakers to use at the office. Thanks to recommendations by fellow members I picked up a pair of Clements 105di from Adiogon. The price was very good at $80 including S&H, currently they are burning in and I hope they open up nicely since the initial impressions were not encouraging. The 105di's sounded congested and the bass was not present, of course I do not expect earth shaking bass from such a tiny speaker. 20. Samba Pa Ti by Santana.
  21. I have not tried it yet Larry. However I am thinking of getting Amarra which it may play FLAC directly, need to research that option a bit.
  22. I have lived with the unit for an additional couple of weeks. In that time a couple of developments have come a reality. First I have learned how to use some of the features like the equalizer including the user selectable and a new smaller and sleeker power supply has been released for the HM-801. During this time I have come to appreciate the improvements in sound this unit offers over the iPod and the iPhone. We all talk about musicality and it is a hard item to describe to those who may not have the opportunity to listen to the gear in question. Perhaps the best explanation is that it is the unit I go to when I am in the mood to listen to good music. There are other accolades and adjectives that I could use but they would not provide the listening experience that this unit is capable of. To that effect I have spoken to a fellow member (Carl) and we will try to have an small mini meet with others (Dom and Vicky) and hopefully they will chime in with their experience with the unit. Of the wishes I wrote above the biggest one for me is a carrying case, followed by car charger. The second “wish item” is somewhat less of an issue following the newer and smaller charger that was recently added. BTW, for those who may argue that the HM-801 is a bit large ... well it is but when you carry an iPod w/ a LOD and an amp you are at about the same size and the sound is nowhere as involving and satisfying. One of the tests I conducted during this period was to feed my home stereo with the HM-801 and an iPod Classic. I used a Kimber copper mini to RCA to feed a Yamaha RX-V3000 Receiver which in turn was feeding a pair of Time Windows 1A speakers. The music was courtesy of Peter White’s Glow album in lossless (ALAC and FLAC) How was the comparison? There wasn’t, the HM-801 was so much better than the iPod Classic that neither my wife nor I could stand listening to the iPod for more than one song. Next I will be using the HM-801 as a DAC/Amp with a computer as the source. I also wish to compare w/ an iModded iPod in the near future. Thanks for reading this and also thanks to Fang for loaning me the unit. Note: For pictures please go to: Picasa Web Albums - 10943715404801124... - HiFiMAM HM-801

  24. All I know is that Ryan fixed two yes two K1000 for me and they sound awesome! One of the K1000 had a driver from hell in which Ryan performed micro-surgery and brought it back to life. Thanks again.
  25. Just hanging out while listening to good music, hard to beat.
