Head-fi member told me about it as well. Joined here a long time but it was a while before I really started coming here. I guess it took a while for me to get bored and disgruntled at the other site. I was really drawn in when I discovered how open and non-censored this place is.

Having seen the EQ curve of hundreds of CD's and LP's, I can say that a good deal of them have the treble and high mids boosted to a very unnatural level. I hate that. Why do they do this? A lot of people, especially the old execs and old engineers, love that "clean" sound think it makes the music sparkle. All it does IMHO is turn good sounding music into bright crap. Now, add in the treble boosts, funky EQ and over-compression and you have your newest top 10 release. Add a bass boost of about 15db and you have your new Rap/Hip-hop single. Sad.

They can probably be fixed a bit but you never know how it may come out.

Not all of the silver discs have solid state mastering. Oh - and not all of the gold discs feature tubes. MFSL has had some great titles. Also want to add that MFSL has done some "questionable" eq work at times. Some MFSL titles also use the wrong tapes. On the bright side though, some are FLAT transfers from the actual master tapes. So, in short, MFSL is hit and miss. DCC are definitive versions to me. However, the artist selection may not be for everyone. The mastering, be it solid state or tubes, is always top notch.

I know but they are hard to find at the local stores. Plus - I wanted the metal boxes. I guess I'm going to have to track down all the long-box sets.

I have yet to hear those Freq customs. FWIW, I still love my UE-10's.

Your a lucky man to have all those box sets! I missed out on them. I'd love to remaster those for the fun of it. I love Miles Davis and would highly recommend Kind of Blue, Birth of The Cool and Miles Ahead. Awesome albums. Here is one I recently remastered which has been getting a lot of play: Not for everyone but I think it's an awesome album - especially when your alone at night.

I like the 10's! No...I LOVE my 10's. Getting something that is neutral, for me at least, is worth it's weight in gold. If I want fun, I listen to speakers or the Super.fi's I have. If I want to really hear what's in the music and in the mix, then it's my UE-10's or HP-2's.

Vandersteen's are awesome. Can't go wrong with those!

Yeah. Those have been out for a long, long time. They sound quite good. My favorite are the takes for Strawberry Fields Forever and the takes for Mr. Kite.

Of course! My own. Seriously, if you want the best ones, you won't find them retail. Of course, these new ones are going to be a lot worse. The Entertainer of the Century (EOTC) are ok for the Reprise Years. Any Rhino release will be better than the EOTC release. AVOID THE CAPITOL YEARS!!! The big box set (suit case or cream box), while not perfect, is probably your best bet but I'm sure that it's going to get pricier now.

It appears the record companies have once again decided to fuck up a catalog. All of the current Sinatra Reprise catalog will be OOP in order to make way for.......you guessed....horrible sounding remasters. If you heard Nothing But The Mess....er...I mean, Nothing But The Worst....no - Nothing But The Best and the horrible, LOUD sound quality then be prepared as we are getting more of that crap!!!! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE NEW STUFF PEOPLE! Buy the old ones while you can or regret it later.
