All the cool kids use Bow and Makita. So there's that. Plus, I love how Jeff asks what tool to buy, then narrows it down to one in the next sentence. You're not going to go wrong with Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt or Bosch. It's just a matter of what flavor you want. They're all very well made.

In my last few projects I've been using this new featherboard system I purchased sometime back. This think is really good. Very well designed, in that it easily allows stock to move forward, but is almost impossible to move backward. This will definitely negate any kind of kickback. Also, I've had the plastic fingers of standard style featherboards break off and try to imbed themselves in my face, while cutting stock. Not a pleasant experience. These are a sturdy foam, and would be a lot less menacing if they did break loose. The foam feathers are also a replaceable insert, so can be replaced when needed at a minimal cash outlay. They also make one specific for bandsaw. Al has one, but not sure if he's tried it yet.

Trying to compute this statement in a gender neutral world, but I still can't make it work.

I'm from the old days, when we just let our "CDs" go wild. Before we even had a term for Metrosexuals. All of the "CD" grooming just seems a bit ridiculous. Sure, I've had a few "CD" strands get caught in my teeth now and then, but I didn't whine about it. I just persisted 'til the task was finished. And trust me when I tell you that I've definitely known some over shaved CDs in my day. There aren't enough sequins in the world to cover that kind of shaving rash! -
I think Doug is going to need to talk to his Analyst after reading the nail comment. It's OK Doug. Pretend you never read that.

Crusty rib eye, cooked in my carbon steel skillet. Sautéed button and shitake mushrooms, in champagne and butter. Broccoli and baked potato.

To be fair, a Willie Nelson CD should never be shaved! -
Look Doug, if the poor bird can't see already, is it really fair to take his tail?

Will it be Charles, or will it be William?

I've used the Rockwell. It was a decent tool. For that matter, the first multi-tool I bought was a $35 Harbor Freight thing, that was way better than any $35 tool had a right to be. But it was noisy and fatiguing after multiple cuts. Granted, the average user isn't going to put the miles on one that I do.

I haven't used the Festool multi-tool, which is highly rated. But I'm sure that's at least twice the price of the Makita, if not more. But this Makita is amazing.

This is the Rolls Royce of multi-tools! I've had 8 different multi-tools over the years, including a very nice Fein (which I keep at Al's shop), and this is by far my favorite. It's not cheap at $225 (still $75 cheaper than the Fein). However, this is the quietest, most well balanced and most vibration free multi-tool I've ever used. A real game changer IMO! The only negative I could find was that it could only use Starlock or Starlock Max blades. But just recently a Norwegian company has made an adapter specifically for this Makita tool, now allowing me to use the inexpensive Ebay blades. I buy 50 blades for approximately $30.

I just talked to his ex and close friend Craig on the phone. It seems that last Tuesday the Dr. informed him that the chemotherapy wasn't working any longer, and that they were stopping treatment. He lasted a week after that. His Mother passed a few months ago, and in a way I'm glad. That would've been extremely tough on her.

R.I.P. Shaun Kitka! I met my friend Shaun in 1996. He was 18, and he a several other young gay guys were leaving an underage dance club in downtown Anchorage, just as I and a friend were riding past on our bikes. He and his friends were immediately physically and verbally assaulted by two larger and older, homophobic assholes. Nothing gets me to a rage state faster than homophobic bullies! I dropped my bike and grabbed the biggest guy and started telling him what I thought of him while poking my finger into his chest quite aggressively. Two cops that were at a flop bar next door came up and pulled me away from this jerk and started detaining me, when Shaun explained what had happened. One cop actually acted like it wasn't a big deal that young gay guys were being hassled, which further pissed me off! However, the second cop was having none of that bullshit, and after explaining that putting my finger in his chest wasn't allowed, he basically ripped the two bullies a new asshole. Shaun and his friends were very thankful for my intervention, and insisted on buying me breakfast. We all got to know each other, but Shaun and I became good friends immediately. I became a kind of pseudo Father figure. I introduced him to a long term boyfriend, and later actually moved in with him in Sacramento after that relationship ended. We got along well, but the new boyfriend didn't understand our relationship and was crazy jealous. To the point of being mean to my dog Suzy. I couldn't have that, and that's how I ended up moving to Fairfax the first time, in 2014. It did strain our friendship some, but we did manage to keep that friendship alive, especially after he told me about his cancer diagnosis a few years ago. He called me on a regular basis. I think that he could share his fears and his hopes with me in a way that he couldn't with his boyfriend. And I think the length of our friendship provided a degree of trust and familiarity that he didn't have with anyone else. He never knew his Father, and in many ways he looked to me for that kind of relationship. I also knew his entire family, as screwed up as they were. I last talked to Shaun two weeks ago. He sounded great. Things were going well medically, and he was really excited about a new flight simulater he was putting together. I just read about his passing today on Facebook, so it's a real shock! I've been losing siblings the last few years, and that's tough, but Shaun was 42 years old, and that's different. I had some time to prepare with my Brother. This came out of nowhere!

Very well said. Also, Sammi Smith helped inspire Kris' 'Why Me Lord'. She invited him to church one morning, where he had some kind of deep soul searching experience, and went home and immediately penned the song. I think Nashville would have been a fantastic place to be in those days. One of the singers who sang many of Kris' songs back in the day, is one of my favorite vocalist... Ray Price had an amazing voice, and I was lucky enough to see him in concert in Corpus Christi. He was 81 and hadn't lost his vocal abilities at all.
