My problem is not with the message, but the general delivery of said message.

All great tips! I'd have done everything wrong, including trying to heat the pins instead of the wire. Thanks Nate! I may get brave enough to order the right tools and try it.

The 70's has the distinction of simultaneously having some of the best and some of the worst music ever. It just doesn't seem possible that Midnight Rider, Magic Man, American Woman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Ballad Of Curtis Loew, Black Dog and Uncle John's Band could possibly be from the same decade as Billy Don't Be A Hero, Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes), Undercover Angel, Afternoon Delight, Da Doo Ron Ron, You Light Up My Life and Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Ole Oak Tree, but there you have it.

I'd like to try my hand at a set of those, but I know I'd end up overheating the posts in the Senn. connectors and they'd move around. How do you heat them up enough to take the solder without melting the plastic? What soldering iron should be used, and any tips?

Happy Birthday Mike!

I'm with you. I keep an extra HD in my closet with a backup of all my tunes.

I've been pretty happy with Woodcraft. I've gotten great service, and the wood I get from them has always been top notch too. Here is one in your neck of the woods...5963 Corson Ave. S.

Personally I don't think Fitz charges enough. On a few occasions I've bumped his fee myself, just because I didn't think he valued his time enough. His cables are labor intensive, especially long runs with that really tight sleeving. I also sent him a free stand to try to compensate. I love trading out work, and if it's for something I can use I'll almost always say yes, but on the other hand I value my skills pretty highly. I guess that comes from running my own business for so long. However because of this I've been known to even double a few DIYers estimates when I thought the price they quoted me was too low. I guess I see both sides. I love to help out my fellow members, but there's nothing wrong with making a decent profit as long as your work is up to par.

Wow, I'm 47 and still having lots of sex. OK it's not with a partner, but it's still sex.

Try and find an episode of New Yankee Workshop on the internet showing Norm using a lathe. Watch the way he holds the gouge close into his body. You want to have firm control of the tool. Be patient and don't try to shove the tool in too fast. Very gentle light touches until you get the feel of the lathe. You'll be turning beautiful pieces in no time. Oh and have fun!

Oh I get it, that's why those Headphile IC cables with no connectors were so great, and cost more than cables with expensive connectors.
-
Nice, and I like the multi MOT designation. Will there be spade lugs or banana plugs?

There is really no getting past having a 3/4" roughing gouge. It's a necessity for rounding your stock, and is the most versatile of all turning tools. That said however I'd not want to have to turn a Grado cup with one tool alone. http://www.pennstateind.com/store/lx250.html I'm in complete agreement. A skew, a gouge and a parting tool will get you through many projects.

I believe that was Fitz that registered the domain name.

They look fantastic Voltron! The Walnut is a rich, masculine wood. We want to see pics of them loaded with gear! Edit: Found 'em!

I guess it's official...I'm back into vinyl. This AR won't have any resemblance to it's former self at all once I finish. It's a very simple table that will allow me to get as wild as I like.

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite Head-Casers!

I like it. A little bit like The Cowboy Junkies, but definitely has it's own flavor. Thanks!

Sorry guys I'm at a total loss here. Someone turn me onto some new music, what genre is this? Can you compare it to anything I may know?

I also agree that a headphone purchase should be based off of an audition, and not hearsay, and if you'll re-read my post you'll see that. I do however think I can get a general idea of what a phone may sound like from listening to the comments of the people I've come to trust. At least enough of an idea to decide whether or not to make a point of listening myself. However if you're just looking to argue, and be a smartass when I haven't earned it, that's fine too, but your comments now and in the future will most likely be glanced over faster than those of OverlordXenu or whatever his name is.

Well it appears that I've dumped the pics from my camera before loading them onto my computer. This was not intentional, as I keep pics of every stand I build. But Vicki said she was taking it to the mini meet today, so I imagine she'll get some pics to post, along with all the gear on hand hopefully.

I disagree. I have a good concept of what many of the members here have a preference for, and as such I can gleen some useful information until such time that I can listen for myself. I do not however wish to buy any Ultrasone unheard.
-
Well this horse is still very much alive. And I for one want to hear both sides, as I've yet to listen to an Ultrasone.

Sounds like things will be "turning around" for you in the near future.

The part of the country he's in will be a determining factor as to the MC as well. You could leave wood to dry for decades here in Texas, and never achieve 10%. In Alaska it would be that dry in months.
