Well with a big thanks to luvdunhill (again), we got her up and running at Saturdays Houston meet. Marc brought about 10-15 Lbs. of lead shot which I used every ounce of. He got the new cartridge mounted, and schooled me on some of the finer points of tweakage. We got her sounding pretty darn good. Considering the limited time factor, wobbly table and such, I was very impressed. Beginners luck for sure, because I've never built a plinth before, but good advice goes a long way. We didn't have a lot of gain for sure, but I bought a step up transformer last night, and it should be here in a few days. We did get a very quiet background even with the β22 cranked to max volume. Marc the table does have noticeably better low end set up here in my system. I'm guessing it's the solid 3" Maple slab under it. It's dead level now too, which wasn't easy to get on that folding table. I'll report back after the Consonance PM-3 step up arrives. I'm quite pleased with the Zu DL 103 though. Just listened to mine Saturday at the Houston meet. Dead quiet, no issues w/the toroids whatsoever. Beautiful build Marc!

Interesting. Can't wait to hear them tomorrow. The Blue Hawaii too. I think the Buffalo will leave you with a positive impression though.

It's dead accurate, no travel at all. I think the problem before was the hand drilled hole in the makeshift plinth for the bearing. The platter is smooth as silk and the motor pulley is spinning perfectly. The only wobble whatsoever is when the tape splice hits the pulley, but even that is minimal. I'm running the battery down now. Thanks guys! Nate it'd be fun to team up on a project one day and combine our different skills. I'm constantly amazed by Yourself, Naaman, Vortex and AMB.

It's done! One coat of sealer and 4 top coats. I prefer a satin finish, so sorry for you glossy guys. I have no idea how it sounds yet. My Pass Pearl phono stage will arrive at the Houston meet (next weekend), and my new cartridge will hopefully be here by then too. That's the speed controller that luvdunhill built in the pics, left and forward of the motor pod.

Ah but the glue on the zip ties is made from the urine of a Yeti. That alone is worth the price.

You know I've been thinking about this for a while now. Would it be as simple as finding a large pulley to attach to the Maxon motor/pod and wrapping it with a large rubber O ring? What about a wooden pulley/drive wheel?

^ Yeah it's an interesting idea to try this for anti resonant use. I'd have to try it out to see how it works, but in theory it should only help.

Supposedly a Limited Special Grade 1 version of the Zu/DL-103 (a modified Denon DL 103). I'm hoping it arrives in time for the Houston HF meet.

Myrtle wood for some reason seems to be the latest kick on anti resonance. I've never found it to be any different than many other more common woods. I'd be more interested in mass as well, and if the Myrtle slab were 3" thick and a competitive price great, otherwise I'd opt for a nice thick slab of Maple. I'd set the slab on rubber/cork/rubber pads and use cones under my table. That's exactly the setup I use, and in a few days I'll be using Torpedo's table ideas as well.

OK last installment for a little while. Today after work I milled up the armboard. Everything is sanded and ready for finishing, which if the weather cooperates will start tomorrow. It'll take a few days to complete the finishing, and I won't bother posting anymore pics until it's done. I decided to make a little pattern out of 1/4" plywood for setting the tonearm distance. One end has a 1/2" hole which fits perfectly over the bearing, then exactly 222mm from the center of that hole is the center of a 3/4" hole. That hole lines up with the 3/4" inside diameter of the VTA bushing. Once I line up the bushing exactly over the hole the armboard is perfectly aligned.
