No, I think the long hair actually makes them look much less ridiculous. It kind of fills in for the width of the K1000.

Agreed, and the hell of it is that AR does SS very well. I've been contemplating a similar pre. Not sure if I'll need one yet though.

How has your rig changed in 2008? And do you have any plans for 2009?

Well I've yet to receive my Klipsch Image X10 IEMs, but I'll hazzard a guess anyway, as I don't use IEMs much at any rate. AKG K1000 Senn. HD 580 Modded Klipsch Image X10 Wow, that was much easier than previous posts in these threads. This minimalist thing has it's advantages. Duggeh, We need a new ranking from you since receiving the K1000.

OK, I finally shaved, so here's the requested pic... Keep in mind that the best looking guy will look pretty silly in these headphones. Multiply that by a factor of ten for my ugly mug and... well you see the results.

Tony I've heard both stock and balanced L3000s. Unfortunately not side by side at the same meet. The balanced L3000 were APS V3 recabled w/Farutech XLR jacks. I listened briefly out of my balanced β22. Again without stock phones to compare directly it's hard to say for sure, but I did not find a large change in SQ. It certainly was not the very noticeable change you get from balancing the Senn. 650, 600, 580 series of headphones. The L3000 does not require a lot of power to play, but they do scale very well. Better amplification becomes apparent as you scale up.

I'd probably follow your lead and keep the boxes fairly simple. Then if they make the cut use any number of yummy veneers.

Oh I know what you're talking about. I have some that's White with a Blue core. The stuff I saw in the pic looked glossy like a caulk of some kind. Good tip though, thanks.

Oh those are nice! Phase plugs huh. I hadn't been aware of these before. What type of cabinet design are you considering Naaman?
-
I saw that. I knew you wouldn't be able to wait long. What is that epoxy putty stuff? I'm not familiar with it.

Happy Birthday guys!

That's great news! They're on my list. So do you think Fostex may have gotten the idea from the HF thread? I mean who just decides to change pads after years of production? Smeggy where did you purchase yours? I don't want to screw up and buy the old style.
-
Oh volume 2, you have to get it! It's got the new duet "Scream It Like You Mean It Girlfriend" with Clay Aiken and Yoko Ono. She's sooo butch!

I imagine you'll be busy tonight setting it up, but keep us posted Mike. I doubt the sandbox will arrive today, but I'll cross my fingers anyway.

He's driving some K1000s that someone left on his doorstep. How are you liking the K1K old man? PS: Are you buying a pair of the T50 RP with the new pads old chap? I will be as soon as I replinish the toy fund a bit.

So I'm listening to beautiful music from my turntable as I type this. I connected the Pass Pearl phono stage directly to my Consonance integrated amp, with no SUT. Happily the Consonance has plenty of gain for this low ouput Zu cartridge. It's driving the K1000 with plenty of gusto. My this is nice! Listening to The Dream Academy, one of my favorite groups from the 80's. I thought I'd like the K1000, but damn! Why did I wait so long? I'm fastly getting over the remorse of selling the K340.

Oops, I misread your measurements as 7" high X 12-14" wide X 13.5" deep. Maybe you can push them together for a nice CC speaker?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REKS!!!!

That is very easy to believe. I discovered how critical the pads were to Ortho design early on with the first Donut build, and some though I was full of I'm sure. Now with the SFI drivers, and all the custom builds going on it's common knowledge. My hobby fund is quite low ATM, I hope these don't go up in price before I can replinish the fund.

I'm crossing my fingers that you're correct, however my TT was giving me the same issues when driven by the Beta22. I'll know if that's a TT issue or not later today. I'll have a much better idea about the Beta22 Saturday. This may definitely changes what we've discussed at any rate. PM on it's way.

Well judging from the costs of most 300B monoblocks I've seen, I imagine I may go the Pass or Pass clone route. I've already heard from Marc about the F5, and it sounds interesting. All of my friends and neighbors aspire to the Bose Wave music system. Sheep following the herd. And no, not a decent CDP amongst them. Saturday will be here soon. I have an idea I'm going to try with my TT today, and if that works then I'll have a wonderful source. I'll keep you posted. Once I decide on the right spot it's doubtful I'll have need to move them much IMO. OK, The African Chant/Dungeon Torture Screams/Gay Pride Dance Beats Fusion Mix may require a different toe in. I'll let you know. That was another issue the seller had. He described them as very painful after 15 minutes. Although I'm a pretty big guy at 6'1" and 230 lbs., apparently I have a pretty small noggin, as most phones fit me without a lot of extension. This could possibly correlate to a lot of my decision making througout my life. The K1000 was very comfortable at the two hour mark for me.

May I ask where those settings are? I seem to be prefering somewhere near the midpoint ATM. That may change with a better source, I'm not sure.
-
Agreed, even with an iPod it's pretty damn impressive so far. Alison Krauss is always the deciding factor on new headphones for me, and she's sounding amazing. Vocals are just beautiful, maybe he listens to techno or something. I'll have to ask him about his music preferences. I'll know more about the Beta22 soon enough, but I've already been considering a recase at the least, So it's not a big concern, and I doubt it's a major issue.
-
OK, I found a mini phono-dual RCA adapter. I'm running it straight out of the iPod headphone out, since my LOD seems to have a short. This is connected to an RCA input on my Consonance integrated amp, with the K1000 being driven from the speaker taps. It's not the optimal setup, but I'm finally getting a pretty clean sound. Sadly I'm starting to think I'm having some issues with the Beta22, but I'll know better once the CDP arrives. This is my first experience with the K1000 other than meet settings. It's too early for any firm impressions, and I'll need a much better source before any serious listening. That said however, I'm really loving the soundstage here. The bass is not that bad either. No worries there though, as I have two Onix UFW-10 subs that I could patch into the system once I get things worked out. The seller told me that the K1000 was way to sterile for him. He felt they weren't very musical. That had me a bit concerned, as I favor musicality over technical attributes most of the time. He said he much prefered the HD600. I own modded HD580s (basically the same phone) that I quite like, but even early on I can say without a doubt that I wouldn't qualify the K1000 as sterile and non musical. It's a very different presentation to be sure, but wholey enjoyable and musical to my ears. Can't wait 'til Saturday!

Nice find Jeff!
