  1. Also one of my favorite features of the K1000 is it's tuneability. Changes in toe in really have a big effect, and I like the ability to tune them for different genres.
  2. I'll add that I've heard a few really shitty sounding K340s. I think that due to the age of the headphones, how they've been cared for has a lot to do with the quality of sound.
  3. I can answer that...NO. The K1000 is dynamic at it's best IMO. And while being a top tier headphone, there are definitely sonic differences between it and the electrostatic 007 MkI. Which is better of coarse will be a matter of individual opinion, but I doubt you'd feel that owning both would be redundant.
  4. Wow! You didn't waste any time getting started Naaman. A few things I noticed... 1) I see that you've cut braces along with the tops and bottoms. Most people don't bother, and that's a mistake. Not only did you cut out braces, but you took the time to round the interior edges with 1/4" round over bit. I'm not surprised knowing of your attention to detail, but it's great to see. 2) Another thing I noticed is the glue. You're using my favorite glue. It's Titebond's best, and it makes a difference. 3) Nice table saw! 4) This is more of an idea rather than an observation... Another finish choice should you decide veneering is a pain, is to use either leather or Ultra Leather to wrap all the way around the baffle, top, back and bottom. Then make side panels from solid wood with a nice round over on the edges. Kind of a Sonus Faber look. Nice work, I'll stay tuned!
  5. That's about $700.00. Great deal!
  6. So my new Original 2008 MkII CDP arrived today. Very nice source. Unfortunately I'm certain now that my β22 is having some problems, but I'll get those ironed out I'm sure. The Consonance A120 is doing a great job for the time being.
  7. I was a complete and utter heartthrob in my younger days! I won almost every sledding competition because I had the secret weapon of using my teeth as brakes. John Travolta had nothing on me in my Polyester Angles Flight three piece suit.

Does this mean you've found a JR 149, or you're in search of one? I never knew of this variant. The cabinet design sounds very intriguing.
  9. Happy Birthday!
  10. FIFY
  11. That's great! Thanks guzzi. I'll start it off by nominating Nate.
  12. Smartass!
  13. No fair, you look much less ridiculous than I do. They actually don't look goofy in that pic.
  14. Well I'm not going to run a HFer of the year thread this year. I'm not on there much, and someone else can take on that role if wanted. I would like to continue the tradition over here however. I'd like to build a stand for the winner, just as I have the last two years over there. However due to my screw up with Voltron last year, I think it would be much better for someone else to take nominations, start the poll and take care of keeping track of the votes. Once decided I'll contact the winner for input into their trophy. Anyone game to take this on?
  15. Well Mr. Fitz, where's your K1000 mug shot? With your short hair and small build, that might make a fun shot.
  16. Believe it or not mine are only about 1/2 toe out. It sure doen't look that way, but it is. I don't normally wear headphones in the bathroom either, but I'm not really the kind of guy to have mirrors all over the house.
  17. No, I think the long hair actually makes them look much less ridiculous. It kind of fills in for the width of the K1000.
  18. Agreed, and the hell of it is that AR does SS very well. I've been contemplating a similar pre. Not sure if I'll need one yet though.
  19. Well I've yet to receive my Klipsch Image X10 IEMs, but I'll hazzard a guess anyway, as I don't use IEMs much at any rate. AKG K1000 Senn. HD 580 Modded Klipsch Image X10 Wow, that was much easier than previous posts in these threads. This minimalist thing has it's advantages. Duggeh, We need a new ranking from you since receiving the K1000.
  20. OK, I finally shaved, so here's the requested pic... Keep in mind that the best looking guy will look pretty silly in these headphones. Multiply that by a factor of ten for my ugly mug and... well you see the results.
  21. Tony I've heard both stock and balanced L3000s. Unfortunately not side by side at the same meet. The balanced L3000 were APS V3 recabled w/Farutech XLR jacks. I listened briefly out of my balanced β22. Again without stock phones to compare directly it's hard to say for sure, but I did not find a large change in SQ. It certainly was not the very noticeable change you get from balancing the Senn. 650, 600, 580 series of headphones. The L3000 does not require a lot of power to play, but they do scale very well. Better amplification becomes apparent as you scale up.
  22. I'd probably follow your lead and keep the boxes fairly simple. Then if they make the cut use any number of yummy veneers.
  23. Oh I know what you're talking about. I have some that's White with a Blue core. The stuff I saw in the pic looked glossy like a caulk of some kind. Good tip though, thanks.
  24. Oh those are nice! Phase plugs huh. I hadn't been aware of these before. What type of cabinet design are you considering Naaman?
