I've developed my owm method, and it's more accurate than those testers too. I throw the tube on the ground as hard as I can, and depending on the colors of the explosion I can tell you wether the tube was good or bad.

I came to the same conclusion. I never liked the sound with the stock housing, no matter the mods. New housings turned them into an incredible headphone IMO. Still the best Ortho I've heard to date.

This is a superb guide to recabling the K1000. I almost feel like I could take on the task myself. I'm not that brave yet, but it's an excellent guide if I ever do decide to do it or have it done.
