So these have shown up, and have been installed. They're easy to install and clamp like a son of a gun! You could drag your piece of gear behind the car by the HDMI cable, with this thing installed!

These are for my computer desk. Eventually I'll be building some monitors for my audio rig, but no hurry there. The Omegas were a bit large for my desk. The voice of reason. Also just picked up Apocalypto, Pan's Labyrinth and Bullitt on Blu-ray.

They're mostly intended for home theater use I think. A third could be set horizontally for a center channel. The price was so cheap I had to give them a shot, and yeah I figured the design scheme would be Dusty approved.

Nice looking case Gary! I'd cut out all the metal under the tile. That couldn't hurt to make sure you get enough ventilation. Once mine is recased the full top will be perforated aluminum.

Emotiva ERM-1 Monitors. At $149.00 ea. I couldn't help but try them out. These will go on my desk.
-
No kidding! That's an amazing deal.

AudiogoN ForSale: Hsu Research HRSW10 I'm not affiliated with this sale in any way. Just seems like a killer deal for someone in the market for some subs.

I was wondering if the drivers looked anything like the Take T. Your description sounds very similar. Makes me wonder why they don't sound as good. They may just get some fidgeting then. I'm also wondering if prodigious power will help flush them out at all? If nothing else it's a cool old phone to take to meets.

Hey you just got free advice from a contractor and an engineer. Not a bad responce IMO. And yes, it looks as thought the trim is thicker to accomodate the carpet.

That overhang is most likely not plywood. Personally I would frame them as you described, but with pressure treated material, then cover the framing with pressure treated 1"x8" material for the risers, because they'll be contacting concrete, and could wick up moisture from it. It looks to me as though the builder cut his plywood a few inches short for the tread material, and probably used some solid pine to face them with. I would secure the pine to the plywood with biscuits and glue.

I'm a bizarre old guy, so they seek me out. That's for another forum. Yeah I read ericj's review of them. I didn't pay much at all though, and I thought they looked really sweet. I imagine they'll get some sort of driver transplant eventually. I've been thinking of a dual SFI Ortho phone, and these look tall enough to accomodate two SFIs per side, so we'll see. Do the 700s look similar?

That is the original bag. I'll have a better stand for it once it arrives.

The packaging was quite impressive, and I thought the test disc was a nice touch.

Pioneer SE-500 piezoelectric headphones.

The Oppo arrived. Quality looking unit, but without a TV as of yet that's all I can say for now. I had HD Satellite installed yesterday, and I'm building some wall boxes for the speakers tomorrow. Will most likely get Tivo HD soon too. Soon, very soon.

Under my desk. They were there when you were here last. I don't let lack of space slow me down. At some point it will all be in a larger space.

Well both of my amps are 500 watts, because mine are the UFW-10, not the ULW-10. However one of my amps quit working and they replaced it with the newer version. It took some time, as there was apparently a bit of work to change it out. I do like the newer amp better, and I set the crossovers a little differently on each sub now to take advantage of the differences in the newer amp.
-
Quite true. For a smaller footprint I do agree the Carver is impressive. The newer small Velodynes are also very nice. What you want to do with a sub has a lot to do with what sub to buy. The Paradigm reaches very, very deep, but like so many bigger subs it's not that fast. I would look into a larger sub for home theater purposes. For music I too prefer a 10" sub for it's speed and musicality, and most of us will never need to dip down to 20Hz or below for our music listening needs. I have a matched pair of the AV123 UFW10 subs in my audio system, and they're quite impressive, and easy to incorprate into most systems. I also love the balanced inputs! If my new TV prompts me to want to get back into home theater, I'll contemplate a bigger sub for that job.
-
Yeah yeah yeah, take all the measurements you want. Use all the obscure terms you want. But in the real world, with a realistic budget tkam is right, you need to move more air to get more output. I tried a lot of subwoofers in the day, including Bob Carver's Sunfire True Subwoofer. The big Velodynes consistantly outperformed it. The sub that really impressed me was the Paradigm Reference Servo 15. This sub has been relatively unchanged for about 20 years, and for good reason.

Very nice Mike. I love it when you can immediately hear improvements after swapping gear. But the biggest surprize is that you have the 'Love Gun' album! Takes me back to 10th grade, rock on dude!

x3! I'm sure you'll make it very nice Naaman. And what would you do without a big list of projects anyway?

Well the Oppo BDP-83 is due to arrive Friday, as is the 5.1 inwall speaker set and Yamaha 5.1 receiver. Today I placed the order for the Panasonic VIERA TC-P50G10 50" Plasma. That should arrive within two weeks. That should give me time to mount the speakers, pull the wires through the walls etc... I ended up finding the Panasonic for $1,394.00. A pretty good bargain considering shipping was included. It won't be long now until I'm enjoying some great Blu-ray playback!

I too agree that the comparison to Single Power is out of line. We all know where Justin is. Justin answers his emails. Justin has never sent out a product that was sub par (supposed $8000.00 powersupply with two floor warts inside). Justin has never skipped out on anyone that I've ever been made aware of. I think that Justin is doing his best to fulfill his orders as timely as he can, and though I can certainly understand the frustration in waiting so long, you could have chosen your words better.

I'm going to try it for video and audio.

While reading the new July issue of Stereophile, I came across a good article on HDMI cables. The article is mostly about the cables one achilles heal... light clamping force. The article goes on to state that the problem is not just aggravating, but can lead to cable and or socket failure. If the cable connection is dislodged too many times it can cause the cable or socket to fail permanently. They go on to give a few cable solutions, namely cables with a tighter clamping force, cables with a PC type screw connector, and finally a clamp system for use on any HDMI cable. The latter is the solution that most interested me, since I will soon be putting my A/V system together, and plan to use HDMI between my Oppo Blu-ray player & A/V receiver, and from the receiver to the plasma TV. The company is Blue Echo Solutions, and the clamp is called hd EZ lock. While maybe not the best solution for those constantly moving gear around, it seems like a good solution for my needs. It's not exactly cheap at $20.00 per pair, but can be a bargain compared to socket replacement or cable failure. I'll expound more on them once they've arrived and have been installed in my system.
