  1. The Oppo arrived. Quality looking unit, but without a TV as of yet that's all I can say for now. I had HD Satellite installed yesterday, and I'm building some wall boxes for the speakers tomorrow. Will most likely get Tivo HD soon too. Soon, very soon.
  2. Under my desk. They were there when you were here last. I don't let lack of space slow me down. At some point it will all be in a larger space.
  3. Well both of my amps are 500 watts, because mine are the UFW-10, not the ULW-10. However one of my amps quit working and they replaced it with the newer version. It took some time, as there was apparently a bit of work to change it out. I do like the newer amp better, and I set the crossovers a little differently on each sub now to take advantage of the differences in the newer amp.
  4. Quite true. For a smaller footprint I do agree the Carver is impressive. The newer small Velodynes are also very nice. What you want to do with a sub has a lot to do with what sub to buy. The Paradigm reaches very, very deep, but like so many bigger subs it's not that fast. I would look into a larger sub for home theater purposes. For music I too prefer a 10" sub for it's speed and musicality, and most of us will never need to dip down to 20Hz or below for our music listening needs. I have a matched pair of the AV123 UFW10 subs in my audio system, and they're quite impressive, and easy to incorprate into most systems. I also love the balanced inputs! If my new TV prompts me to want to get back into home theater, I'll contemplate a bigger sub for that job.
  5. Yeah yeah yeah, take all the measurements you want. Use all the obscure terms you want. But in the real world, with a realistic budget tkam is right, you need to move more air to get more output. I tried a lot of subwoofers in the day, including Bob Carver's Sunfire True Subwoofer. The big Velodynes consistantly outperformed it. The sub that really impressed me was the Paradigm Reference Servo 15. This sub has been relatively unchanged for about 20 years, and for good reason.
  6. Very nice Mike. I love it when you can immediately hear improvements after swapping gear. But the biggest surprize is that you have the 'Love Gun' album! Takes me back to 10th grade, rock on dude!
  7. x3! I'm sure you'll make it very nice Naaman. And what would you do without a big list of projects anyway?
  8. Well the Oppo BDP-83 is due to arrive Friday, as is the 5.1 inwall speaker set and Yamaha 5.1 receiver. Today I placed the order for the Panasonic VIERA TC-P50G10 50" Plasma. That should arrive within two weeks. That should give me time to mount the speakers, pull the wires through the walls etc... I ended up finding the Panasonic for $1,394.00. A pretty good bargain considering shipping was included. It won't be long now until I'm enjoying some great Blu-ray playback!
  9. I too agree that the comparison to Single Power is out of line. We all know where Justin is. Justin answers his emails. Justin has never sent out a product that was sub par (supposed $8000.00 powersupply with two floor warts inside). Justin has never skipped out on anyone that I've ever been made aware of. I think that Justin is doing his best to fulfill his orders as timely as he can, and though I can certainly understand the frustration in waiting so long, you could have chosen your words better.
  10. I'm going to try it for video and audio.
  11. While reading the new July issue of Stereophile, I came across a good article on HDMI cables. The article is mostly about the cables one achilles heal... light clamping force. The article goes on to state that the problem is not just aggravating, but can lead to cable and or socket failure. If the cable connection is dislodged too many times it can cause the cable or socket to fail permanently. They go on to give a few cable solutions, namely cables with a tighter clamping force, cables with a PC type screw connector, and finally a clamp system for use on any HDMI cable. The latter is the solution that most interested me, since I will soon be putting my A/V system together, and plan to use HDMI between my Oppo Blu-ray player & A/V receiver, and from the receiver to the plasma TV. The company is Blue Echo Solutions, and the clamp is called hd EZ lock. While maybe not the best solution for those constantly moving gear around, it seems like a good solution for my needs. It's not exactly cheap at $20.00 per pair, but can be a bargain compared to socket replacement or cable failure. I'll expound more on them once they've arrived and have been installed in my system. 12. With a cheap RC airplane.
  13. I don't blame you a bit Fitz. I wouldn't give them another dime either if treated like that.
  14. Well I've known Mark since the Audio Alchemy days, so I always circumvent the normal channels and go straight to Mark. He's always bent over backwards for me. The sub that had an amp failure was the one I bought from you, and he never gave me any grief about it being second hand. Raif, What is that next to your humidor? It looks suspiciously like the Buffalo32 that Naaman just built.
  15. Nice Mike! Yes I have two of the UFW-10 subwoofers too. I did have a problem with the amp on one of them, and after talking with Mark Schifter they replaced the amp with a newer model and covered shipping on the sub both ways. Tyrion, I just checked out Emotiva's site, and all their gear has me interested. The speakers have a no bullshit "Dusty approved" look as well. And the surround processor and multi channel amps look like bargains too.
  16. Wasn't aware of that. It's been a while since I've ordered anything from them.
  17. Did you get it from AV123? I really like their customer service. As for me ... I couldn't buy the Oppo BDP-83, and the Panasonic Viera TCP50G10 Plasma TV only to listen through the crappy TV speakers. I needed in wall speakers because of the lack of space in my small room.
  18. Great news Ian. Hope you love the new job!

    Deals

I buy Albos from Mexico. Same active ingrediant as Prilosec, but the Albos is $3.50 for 60 pills.
  20. Personally I've had great experience with LTs through the years. I could only imagine a well thought out tonearm such as the Clearaudio would be fantastic.
  21. I had one of those when they were new. I spun a heck of a lot of vinyl on that puppy. Not a bad table. I think I paid $150.00 new IIRC.
  22. Dark Knight does seem a good choice. Blade Runner would be kind of cool to have also.
  23. Would that make me the Ed Wood of ... well, wood? Just do whatever she says Fitz, and back to the door very slowly.
  24. OK, I can understand that.
  25. I'm gay too you damned homophobe! Just what exactly did you mean by that derogatory remark? Ever been bitchslapped with size 13 Prada pumps?
