Now here's the voice of reason. I always knew you were an incredibly intelligent guy. BTW, a balanced Beta22 and a Buffalo32 will be my K1K system soon enough.
-
It was a Sigma Pro IIRC. It belonged to plaidplattypus, he had the older HeadAmp stat amp, don't recall the nomenclature. I'd love to hear them on a BHSE, and plan to spend a little time with Marc's at some point. I had his 02 for a lengthy bit of time too, and I really didn't care for them with rock. Though the 02 does female vocals probably better than anything I've heard.
-
I agree about the treble being slightly extended. That's something I prefer in the K1K. Good news to my ears. I can't wait to sit down for a long session with my K1K/β22 once it's back. I've only heard great things about this combo. You owe it to yourself to listen to the 02. I agree with everyone's assessment of it's technical merits, I just find it too dark and uninvolving myself, but I do tend toward a more lively sound sig. Passion over perfection I'd say. I'd love to hear the HD800, especially on my β22. Maybe Al (pabbi1) will help me out with that in the near future. Well I do find them to be extraordinarily resolving, fast and very accurate, it's just the overall signature is not my taste. I would have kept my mouth shut until you rated the Sigma over the K1K. That's the strangest sounding headphone I've ever heard, and I have to chalk that one up to extreme stat fanboyism. I think that musical preferences also need to be mentioned here. I find the 02 much more suited to classical & orchestral music, while the K1000 can venture over to Classic Rock, Blues & Country (yes I said Country) with a better outcome IMO.

I would agree that the 02 is probably the more technically accurate headphone, however the K1000 just has more characteristics that are pleasing to me. I enjoy their more forward signature, their more speaker like presentation, and at least in my late production pair, their more tipped upper midrange. As for bass, I tend to augment my K1000 with an Onix Rocket UFW-10 active subwoofer, and I really like the accurate, visceral bass that setup can achieve. I doubt that kind of 'out of the head' type performance, with bass you can feel as well as hear, would be possible with any supra or circumaural style of headphone. This is not meant as a screaming endorsement for the K1000 though. I can certainly appreciate the merits of the 02. I'm simply implying that it's somewhat of an apples to oranges comparison. An apples to oranges comparison that was a thoroughly interesting read however, and I expect an even more interesting listening event. Thanks for the write up Deepak!

Yeah, My balanced β22/Donut MkII combo was awesome. They really do need the power, and I think even more importantly the neutrality of an amp like the β22. Great to hear you're happy with them. I hope your neighbor Duggeh gets to hear them with your amp one day.

OK, you've gained some major cojones points with me there. It's not just any man that will admit to liking a Partridge Family song. One of my first albums was The Partridge Family, and I can still remember all the lyrics to "I Think I Love You".
-
Yes, but you need all that room for the bodies in the basement. Duggeh, what amps are you considering if these make the cut?

Spent the entire day flat on my back in bed. When I woke up around 5:30 am, as soon as I stood up the room started spinning, and I felt very nautious. Same thing a few hours later, and until just about 30 minutes ago. Found out later from the school nurse that several kids have had the same thing, and that it lasts about 24 hours. Not feeling 100% yet, but much better, and no spinning. You're a nice guy Colin! Can I call you in about 30 years?

Happy Birthday!
-
Wow, from almost selling them to ranking them over 650s. What made the difference for you?
-
Jeez, that didn't come off as pompous or anything. I'm not sure how you can make that determination from the pics posted. You can tell nothing of the depth of the room from them. Or how far the room extends off to the left for that matter. It looks bigger than most living rooms I've had, and I've lived in North America all of my 48 years.

Out of curiousity I just looked it up, and I share a Birthday with the following... 1874 Thomas J. Watson, Sr. (President of IBM from 1924 to 1952) 1925 Hal Holbrook (actor) 1930 Ruth Rendell (author) 1941 Gene Pitney (singer) 1954 Rene Russo (actress) 1962 Lou Diamond Phillips (actor) 1963 Michael Jordan (basketball player) 1971 Denise Richards (actress) 1975 Wish Bone (rapper) 1981 Paris Hilton (actress, heiress) Not bad if you forget the last three names.

Funny, you don't look as old as David Gilmour.
-
Too good to pass up. I hit that for two, though I don't have a specific use in mind.
-
Why? Does he tickle your balls for you?
-
Those look great on your desk Mike! You've got a big desk, they overpowered mine. I think if I sat in that I'd never want to leave it.
-
Well I haven't paid for any of it yet, but a new K1000 cable from a certain retired builder, and a K1000 cable installation from a certain K1000 cable install expert. Gotta love those joint ventures.

Absolutely sublime! AudiogoN ForSale: SOTA NOVA Not so much a deal, but it drives me crazy when people misquote their equipment. If that's Zebrawood, I'm Phyllis Diller! Funny thing is it's Cocobolo, which IMO is way more desirable.

Damn! either you're quite tall, or she's quite short, or both. Good luck on the wheel. I'll cross my fingers for you.

Did they own up to it?

Well actually this project was yesterday and today. It's a custom bathroom vanity I built. Two reasons for the custom build... 1) The customers are a tall couple, so a taller cabinet was desired. 2) They have beadboard wainscoting in the bathroom, and wanted the cabinet to match. I was able to use some beadboard leftover from the wainscoting, and some wood I had hanging around in the shop. That's why it looks like the 'coat of many colors' ATM, but it will be painted a nice creamy White tomorrow, and it now qualifies as a Green build. The beadboard is just an overlay on top of cabinet grade voidless Baltic Birch plywood. And of coarse I dovetailed the drawers. Finished toekick to be installed tomorrow. This is fairly typical of some of the smaller projects that I do.

Someone please buy these and get them off of A-gon, so my panties can dry out! I keep looking at them and I try to build a case in my mind on why I should buy them. However I don't have the room, and that's too big of a hole in an already thin wallet. One of my favorite speakers though! AudiogoN ForSale: Thiel 3,7
