  1. Thanks for all your support guys. I'm feeling a little better. It's the little things that still catch me, like looking behind my desk chair for Fred before rolling it back, or not having him licking the water off of my feet when I get out of the shower (I think I'll actually be OK with that one once some time has passed). He loved, loved, loved the beach, and I took him often. He also loved playing with my co-workers dogs, and pissing in their yard. That's where he's burried, as I have no grass. So all in all he had a great, if short 6 years on this planet.
  2. I thought this was magic smoke?... I just can't keep up with you kids these days.
  3. I burried Fred today. Last night at about 3:15 am I heard him make a strange weezing noise. I reached over and put my hand on him and could feel him convulsing some. I sat up and put him in my lap and stroked his head and within about 10 minutes he was gone. It was pretty peaceful after I gathered him into my lap, and I could tell that put him at ease a bit, so I'm very glad that I awoke to be there for him when he passed. 24 days ago Fred weighed 22 lbs. This morning when I weighed him he weighed 12 lbs. I don't think I've ever had a more loyal friend, or have ever been as loved by an animal as with he. It's going to be very different around the house now, and I'm admittedly not doing as well with it as I had hoped. He's burried under a nice shade tree, with his bed and his favorite toy (a stuffed flamingo). Here he is over two years ago in much better health...

    Audeze LCD-2

Personally I didn't find the LCD-2 that hard to drive. My guess would be yes it will drive it well enough. I happened to prefer the LCD-2 on SS amps as well. The tube amps I tried (several at CJ) were not as good of a match IMO.

I like the new grills, they look even better IMO. The wood is a really durable hardwood, that should hold up to plenty of usage.

But Boogie Oogie Oogie was typically in the late '70s.
  12. Damn I wish someone would have filmed that and stuck it on YouTube! Not that I wish you any pain, but the way you describe the story it had to be funny as hell to see.
  13. The thing is when they do burn you're well aware of it. You'd smell it and see it upon opening the case. My guess is a simple fix like a fuse or loose connection. Without a TRS jack on my amp any longer, the burning issue is a thing of the past for me. At least one can hope, twice was quite enough. Nugget Audio service is exceptional, as was Luvdunhill Audio!

I'd like to see the new grill Shelly. Did the headband get a leather covering as well?
  15. Sorry Denny. I have only been stung once as a little kid, because I stepped on one. Hope you feel better soon.
  16. The bottoms and the backs are Black, because I only had a limited amount of Walnut veneer on hand.

What I meant is that it takes a lot more power to create that same volume with speakers, especially in a large room.

Just wait until the poop really developes a strong odor! You'll know when that is. She's adorable!
  19. Thanks. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I cut any corners, and aesthetically I loved how they turned out. I was just referring to the fact that they were simple boxes, with no real need for internal bracing or complex angles. I'm a big Walnut fan, and thought Nate might be as well, so I wanted them to be nice.

Granted. I'm specifically talking about speaker amps, where volumes are generally higher, and loads can typically be more difficult. I agree that headphone amps don't require as much headroom, but the idea still applies, just on a smaller scale. FWIW I listen at pretty low volumes, but I do think most orthos do better with reserve power over not enough power. Do I need the balanced Beta 22 to drive the LCD-2?...no, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

    Moving to Monitors

Heh, no ones arguing that point Ken. The kicker for me was at CJ, when you asked the waitress if she could blend your breakfast (bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast).
  22. As far as function, the basic drywall screws will work great. They're designed with a high shear strength, and therefore tend to break far less often than say stainless steel, those look pretty, but have a low shear strength. Do predrill for the screws with a bit slightly smaller than the screw diameter though.

That's a pretty simplified statement, and I can't agree with that. I've heard plenty of amps that will get loud enough, but then run out of steam on difficult passages. Dynamic headroom is very important IMO, and I'd personally rather have more than enough power than not enough. For example I used to own a pair of ESS AMT 1Ds, with the famous Heil Air Motion Transformers. I powered those speakers for about a year with an NAD 2200 stereo power amp. That amp was conservatively rated at 100 wpc, with pretty respectable dynamic headroom. I thought it sounded great. But when my stereo sales rep offered to bring a second NAD 2200 by and run the pair in bridged mono mode, I was floored at the way the speakers opened up. That was 400 wpc in bridged mode, and I would have thought complete overkill for my ESSs, but I was wrong. I did buy the second NAD on the spot BTW.
  24. Ouch Vicki, that does look bad. I hope Ivan is recovering well. Fred is indeed a dog, and Ivan is indeed a cat. Fred is still doing pretty good. Today we went for a long drive. He still loved it, even though he can't see anything. When I said 'drive' his tail started wagging at mach speed.
  25. Holey crap! That is indeed the mother of all cases.
