  1. To be fair I never took to the Cambridge 840 C. It has an odd midrange, not sure how to describe it, but it sounded unnatural to me. Of coarse I've only heard one specimen, so that possibly could come into play.

    Audeze LCD-2

I'm really not sure why these are so often being compared to the 02s. It's an unfair comparison IMO. They're not in the same price range. However, I like the more forward nature, and they don't require an expensive specialty amp. But to expect the same detail and refinement as the 02 is unrealistic. IMO a comparison to the HD800 makes more sense, and IMO the LCD-2 wins on all accounts. Also I guess it's a taste thing, but to my ear they trounce all of the HE series orthos by a fair margin.
  3. Building the cabinets would be easy enough, it's the technical details like which drivers best compliment each other, crossover design, etc... that I'm not that comfortable with yet.
  4. Will do. He tells me that 6 days is probably more accurate for build time, and he's gotten payment already, so he'll hopefully start straight away. Since you pegged the driver compliment, if I do like them I may build a center channel and surrounds.
  5. Looks like you're spot on IMO. Much less that I thought, cost wise. I'll hope that the implementation of the roughly $250 driver set is good. Still a good price considering labor involved in cabinetry.
  6. Yeah, will do. I really have no idea what to expect. I saw the auction in the last minutes, and felt compelled to pull the trigger. Dome midranges always seemed sexy to me. For what I paid I'm thinking the drivers are worth almost that much? 10 day build time, so it'll be a few weeks before they arrive.
  7. Hah, that was an attempt at humor. I know you better than that!
  8. Looks like I've just won my first AudiogoN auction... AudiogoN ForSale: Daber audio Monitor 3 I chose piano Black.

    Jokes

An airline's passenger cabin was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant named Billy, who seemed to put everyone into a good mood as he served them food and drinks. As the plane prepared to descend, Billy came swishing down the aisle and announced to the passengers, "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, lovely people, so if you could just put up your trays that would be super." On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed that a well-dressed rather exotic-looking woman hadn't moved a muscle. "Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines. I asked you to raise your trazy-poo so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground." She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a Princess. I take orders from no one." To which the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, "Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country, I'm called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray-up bitch."
  11. The good thing is the kids won't care if it's level or plumb, as long as it doesn't fall on them. I have two mono Luminous Audio passive preamps, they're balanced (XLR). You're welcome to them on an extended loan if it'll help. They'll see no use here for the forseeable future, but it's one of those things you don't really want to sell off.
  12. Don't feel too bad, I can't design an amp.

OK, I'll cut him some slack. I try never to listen to any Sarah Palin quotes...It's just too embarrasing.
  15. Darn it! I knew there was something I forgot to go over with you at CJ. Ryan I've just sent out your first weapons training kit, please practice diligently...

Gee, maybe that might have something to do with Russia being over 700 miles away from Anchorage. What is that moron doing in Alaska anyway? Shouldn't he be home screwing up California?
  17. Not sure anyone here is still using one. Aside from the transport issue, it's a decent cd spinner IMO. I like it better than the Cambridge 840 C.
  18. My people are generally cordial. We don't claim Richard Simmons though!
  19. When I was in college at UNLV, I worked at an Italian restaurant with a very good reputation. It was called the Venetian, but that was well before the Venetian hotel was built ('80-'81). Frank Sinatra and entourage were there most Thursday evenings. This was when Frank was on the board at Ceaser's Palace. He was the biggest asshole I've ever had to deal with, and I hated waiting on him. He treated staff like they were peasants at his beck and call. I made it a point to be pleasant, but just enough to avoid problems. I also waited on Waylon Flowers regularly (Madam the puppet's controller from Hollywood Squares). He was a blast! He actually helped me to become open about my sexuallity, and was the first person I ever came out to. His boyfriend was just as much fun, and they always left me a C note. I waited on Sally Fields in Brownsville, Texas (just before I transfered to UNLV) twice, while she was making the movie 'Backroads' with Tommy Lee Jones. She was an absolute sweetheart, and quite down to earth.

  21. Al I hope the Dr. can sort out your wrist. I know how that can hurt. I've done the exact same thing on a few occasions, then bought a bigger drill with an optional side grip. But I had a strong wrist to begin with (don't ask), so keep us posted on the medical opinion. And if all else fails to ease the pain, there's always Red Vodka.
  22. Very nice Mike! You have some good craftsmen on the job.

For those concerned about the headband pad, I wonder if an inquirey to J Money might bear fruit. After all he makes the earpads, I don't see why he couldn't design an aftermarket leather headband.
  24. I actually think I preferred grilling in the winter in AK. I damned sure prefer it down here. Standing over a hot grill in 100 degree weather just has a way of zapping my appetite.
  25. Man I loves me some Nicaraguan food! Think you could FedEx me some overnight? Have a great time!
