I remember those. Never heard one, but in theory it should be faster for sure.

So would knock-offs of Beats be called Beat-offs?

System Overhaul Thread
It's really hard to find a dynamic driver fast enough to sound right with planar speakers. I've wondered if turbine style subs might be the solution, but they don't seem to have gone anywhere.

Carrying soundcards + notebooks togther?
Once amps get small enough, I can see the advantages of an active IEM.

That's somewhat of a loaded question, because bass is so over accentuated in much modern music and music playback systems, that so many younger people have no idea what properly reproduced music should sound like. However, among the more discerning I think delay is pretty audible in all but the lowest frequencies.

I think it's short for SHIT ON LOBES. So happy Michael beat Ryan last night. I like Ryan too, but this is Phelps last hurrah.

Sennheiser HD 800 Redux
Marc was dead on about the F5/K1000 combo. He recommended I build the F5 before he actually heard the combo IIRC, but was pretty sure it'd be the right amp for the K1000. As much as I love the b22, the F5 is the better match for the K1000. Now if it just didn't double my electric bill for the month.

Ghetto cables
You may be onto something there Dinny. Cables with built in components.

Apparently I mangled the stylus/cantilever on the Zu/Denon cartridge when I packed it and shipped to Naaman. Bummer!

I think my redneck Father was really disappointed that I had no interest in sports as a child, and it showed. In seventh grade I had my first woodworking class, and made my Father a center console and shifter handle of Walnut for his beloved '66 Chevy pickup. That was the first time I remember seeing pride in my Dad's eyes. My Father grew so much in those years, and stopped comparing me to my older Brothers completely. I have no doubt that Alden is going to become a valued member of the community, and a very successful man. What a great kid!

The HD800 - Beta22 combo was also a poor match IMO. Very recessed mids with that combo.

Ghetto cables
I'd pit the speaker cables Nate builds (and taught me to build) against any. And they look fantastic too. I also am lucky enough to have several pair of his SE and Balanced cables. Also cables from Fitz, luvdunhill and a few others around here. If built with quality wire (I'm not talking esoteric, just good quality) they sound as good as anything I've heard. I've definitely come to the conclusion that cables do not provide anywhere near the difference that cable manufacturers would like you to believe. The only bad cables I've heard are those made with shitty wire (not intended for cable use) or crappy solder joints. Now I buy/trade from these guys first, or if I need something really fast, then SignalCables.

Having a Dad that spends quality time with you is even better. Good on you Dinny!

If you feel you want something a little more boutique-ish, (ie dressier looking) then don't forget SignalCable. He makes a nice looking cable at a reasonable price.
