Coming from "The Land of the Midnight Sun" I can say that what seems odd to some is someone else's normal. I never thought that going to bed when it was light outside was unusual. Just the same as pitch Black at 4:00 pm in December was my normal. Best of luck with the move Stretch.

Almost every time I hear "I'm not racist but..." I brace for the worst. What really gets me is that these people that spew this racist verbal garbage, usually think that if there is no one around of the race or group they're disparaging, then they're not offending anyone. I'm offended, and I'm guessing that most intelligent people are also equally offended.

The problem of a shaft that fits loosely into a hole, is one I've had exactly zero experience with. Teflon tape is going to be very difficult to keep in place, while fitting the knob onto the shaft. I would try some masking tape, as I think it'll hold onto the shaft better.

There was a restaurant in Anchorage in the 80's called Harry's. They had a burger called the BBGB (belly burnin' gut buster). It was awesome! It had a half pound chopped sirloin burger patty, a good quality hot dog, split open and grilled, and a fried egg on top. Mmmmm!

Aesthetics alone, I'd say it' a hit. Elegant and modern, yet tastefully restrained.
