  1. Yes please I'd love a pic. The less amount of fiddling that needs to be done the better I say.
  2. I'd considered how to match those dual package devices and gave up due to the sips... well not sip'ing nicely when there's 7 of them. Obviously using one set and rotating didn't occur to me doh!
  3. In a push I've used 3mm ones before to some effect and got away with it (it sorta worked out in the wash tolerances and all). The ones kerry list work great. I bought about 100 of them and regret not getting double. Grab a small 12v supply (I use a tiny cheap meanwell smps) a 1k resistor and a little pair of sip sockets. Together with a dmm it is the fastest check and match job you'll ever do.
  4. If you mean red leds then yes they are just 1.7v 5mm jobbies. Yep same idea in usage.
  5. Brilliant! Why can't more audio reviews be like this?
  6. PRP'd test points... we subscribe to the same journal of stupidity
  7. Yeah the mouser ones are much cheaper but I had a massive dk order at the time and it was cheaper to throw them on there. I don't remember them being that expensive though, wow.
  8. I used these for memory: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=11012-RK-ND http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=11012-BK-ND
  9. Done! Thanks again =)
  10. If you have a drill press (with a depth stop) then you can cheap out like I do and just get a local machine shop to "spot" the sinks from your cad file. They use a small pointed bit to put a "spot" / dot at the center of each of the holes to be drilled to which you can use a standard 3mm center punch to make the dots physical marks so that when you drill the holes the bit won't wander. You can follow up with tapping by hand. If you are worried about tapping off angle then grab a piece of 19mm (3/4") mdf and put the exact same hole in it: dadaa tapping jig. As long as you drill the correct sized clearance hole in you sink and use a drop of machine oil you'll never snap a bit. Anyway it takes a machinist about 5min per sink (or less) and ends up costing $10 to get done instead of what ever ludicrous price they charge to drill and tap.
  11. It is a pretty massive undertaking to "stuff" the board let alone finish it. I like to think of my self as pretty experienced and I'm still trying to track down a problem in my -500v supply (not having much time doesn't help this). With the sort of questions you are asking I'd approach this project with a lot of care.
  12. I might have missed it but, does the kgitsojc still have the attenuator onboard or is it now moved off using this one?
  13. If I make the kgitsojc controllable via my iphone I'm never going to have to leave my couch again. Excellent.
  14. Four please Have you got a particular uC in mind or is it more BYO?
  15. With two boards stacked I don't see why you couldn't jimmy them in there... I guess if it had an onboard reg you could just tap the 12v supply?
  16. Excellent! The pro-thickass-cables bunch could definitely use an algebraist on their side. Yesterday I sent out an email to organize a dinner after our weekly seminar... Today I've discovered that there is no point in giving people RSVP instructions as they will just flat out ignore them and spam your email box instead.
  17. Congrats Shelly! Is this your first Ph.D. student? What's their thesis concerning?
  18. Aha! My problem is solved by my existing parts bin. Thanks for the offer Marc =)
  19. Marc you've made my day =D ... and yeah fastener-express is where I get most of everything I order screw related. They are the only place I've seen with a decent collection of metric anodized Al cap screws.
  20. That raises a good question pedefede, is the 15A rating critical or is it more the 1.2kv rating? I have a truckload of Fairchild 8A 1200V Stealth diodes here... could these concievable be used instead of the IXY part? I have a feeling 8A may be too low.
  21. Does anyone have four DSEP12-12B Ixys Rectifiers they could spare? These are for the diyt2 (export restrictions mean I can't get them directly myself). Alternatively, four of the originally spec'd (but now EOL'd) stth1512d would be as equally good. I can paypal you the money for them and the shipping to very far away Sydney
  22. Thanks Nate, I didn't think of that =) I'll post something in the opps-I-didn't-order-it thread. Edit: done!
  23. Had a chance to sit down today and I think I've found the problem in my -500v supply. Does anyone know where to find the DSEP12-12B Ixys Rectifiers apart from mouser (export restrictions mean I can't get them)? If it isn't the rectifiers or the two caps then I'm gonna take up religion and try prayer.
  24. Dispite the fact I just copped a $1k fine for the most stupid of things and I'm meant to be writing a thesis soon, I do plan on taking a crack at finishing this in the coming weeks...
  25. If you angle the pins back a tad you couldn't use the 8n80c's you've got with an Al oxide insulator and nylon bolt (f you have these already)?
