With all these good responses regarding about the DT990, I'm starting to think the DT990 might be a better choice than the K701 I ordered a few days ago. We'll see how it turns out. Cheers, Nanoha

What are some examples of a good amp to pair with the headphones? Cheers, Nanoha

Lite Special Edition? Where is the info on this?

*sigh* "Member of the Trade" status turned out to be an effective way to censor. Heh.

Ordered a K701 myself today. Time for me to get back into headphones!

I've recently committed to being a DIYer and am now looking forward to building a DAC. I currently have a Fubar II DAC (PCM2702) and wish to improve upon that. For the DIY people out there, what DIY DAC options out there (with available PCBs) are available for me? Or should I just stay with my Fubar II DAC? Cheers and thanks, Nanoha

I was guessing around $800 total, but now that I think about it, oops. Maybe not. Bah.

I'm thinking about building a β22 as well, perhaps balanced just for the hell of it. I'm thinking that if I'm going to build something, why not go all the way (despite not currently owning a balanced setup). It's not going to be too expensive either. Hopefully the boards come out before the end of December (the ETA is mid-December I believe) so I can start on the project during my winter vacation.

The huge photo looks so nice. Lavry going eh? Bah, wish I had the cash right now.

Nanoha replied to grawk's topic in Headphone Amplification
Maybe TooleAudio is waiting to build a balanced maxed β22 instead... -
Hey tkam, just wondering, if given the situation where you could only choose among the closed headphones currently in production, would there be other headphones that you prefer over the W5000? (A Darth 770 for example.)

I'm thinking about getting a 2050A system to start off. I really miss my headphones, and I need to get back into headphones with something new, namely maybe an entry level electrostatic. I looked through Stax.jp's brochures and have arrived at a few conclusions that seem somewhat confusing: - Is there a major difference between the SR-202, SR-303, or SR-404? Of course, my definition of "major" might not be the same as others'. From what I understand, all three headphones have the same drivers, but the SR-303 has better pads than the SR-202, and the SR-404 has a better cable than the SR-303. - What about the driver units? I know that the old SRM-313 is the same as the SRM-212 internally. The only difference is that the SRM-313 has two outputs. Is that the same situation with the new SRM-252A and the SRM-323A driver units? The case might be different since the price difference is somewhat substantial. As I don't know much about Stax headphones, I'll ask a rather noobish question. Are there different plugs for the headphones/driver units? (Say, is it possible to hook a OII to a SRM-313 for example.) Or is that only an issue with mixing older models with new models?

Haha ya. Two of my friends have that t-shirt.

Hi everyone, I don't know if there is anyone around here who likes SA5k over the HD650, but if there is, I was wondering if I could get some tips. So basically, I currently own the HD650 and the SA5k. My mom uses the HD650 back at home, and my parents want me to give my SA5k to my cousin as a gift (strange, I know. Don't ask. ). So that leaves me with no headphone at college pretty soon. I've never heard the K701, but I've begun considering it. I personally don't like the HD650's dark signature and the "veil" (ya, I notice it) doesn't work too well with my most of my music. (It works great with classical, but not so great with industrial, rock such as Tool, pop and electronic stuff.) Yeah, it's probably weird, but I think the SA5k sounds rather good. I'm planning on buying a PPX3 in December since I got a chance to listen to one of my friend's with my SA5k and HD650, and it was great. Anyways, I was wondering if somone who likes the brutal speed and tight punch of the SA5k and has heard the K701 could give me some insight. Hmm, to rebuy the SA5k or to buy the K701. Blah. On a totally off topic note, I listened to the AD2000 over at my friend's room today. Gah, I love it. Thanks and cheers, Nanoha

I've been looking around for the best speaker amp under $200. The options I've considered (Teac A1D, Cambridge Audio A5, Panasonic A-35R and Denon PMA-255) are: - Out of stock and nowhere to be found anymore for the Teac - Out of stock and UK available only for the Cambridge Audio, and Denon - Nowhere to be found anymore in the U.S. other than from pick-up in Montana for the Panasonic I keep hearing things about NAD. Are there NAD products that are available in my pricerange? The only one that is available online in the United States I believe is the Behringer A-500: http://www.audiolines.com/product.php?productid=12906&cat=0&page=1 Anyone got any ideas or could help me out? Cheers, Venio

Gah, this reminds me. I forgot to reply to MisterX's PM. I need him to build me a Alien DAC.

Haha, it looks like I'm in the same position as you. I also need a simple DAC + Amp combo. I was almost ready to put down my money on a GCHA but realized I won't have any money whatsoever for my first semester of college if I bought it. Bah, I need to figure it out within a week.

Hi guys, I've recently been thinking about having a DIY DAC built, but the only one I know is the Alien USB DAC (or Guzzler's for that matter). What other DIY USB DACs are around? And secondly, how good is the Alien DAC? Cheers, Nanoha

Oh that thing. Hahaha. I didn't even recognize that was a modded Transit.
