  1. Awesome! Thanks again!
  2. All you've owned, bro. (Or at least try to. ) *Correction on the ranking method: If you feel there is a significant disparity between "what you prefer" and "how you regard their performance", please post both rankings. (That is, you really like the sound signature of one headphone but know it actually is mediocre in terms of its performance.)
  3. I'm currently studying a bit regarding statistical algorithms for one of my classes and thought this might a good chance to test things out. I know there is a rank-your-headphones thread on Head-Fi, but that one has a lot of rubbish mixed in with the gems. I'll take a look into that thread after testing out a smaller data set (Head-Case). Hopefully I can finish the data analysis in a week or two after the data is gathered. Hopefully this turns out to be fun as well. (We can get an idea of what kind of sounds you guys like! ) Try to rank all the headphones you've owned. (Post what amp you used the headphones out of, for perhaps a deeper analysis later.) Tiering is fine. If you've posted something like this in the "best headphones" thread or some other thread, try to regroup it here as well. I'll post my own rank later this afternoon after class. Thanks guys! *Rank based on how much you enjoy those headphones and how you regard their overall performance as opposed to comfort, usage, value, etc.
  4. Suzuki makes cars, yes.
  5. A most awesome review indeed. I'm guessing the ARC is actually good though?
  6. I believe that is hirsch. I always had the impression purk liked the bassier one. I could be wrong though of course.
  7. Hahaha. Philodox, you don't have to be so defensive about it.
  8. Oh snap. Very cool.
  9. Oh snap. Perfect. Your definitions were different from mine, but it turns out I was actually agreeing with you. Cool.
  10. Think of all the Head-Fi people who we dislike because they only accept the sound of the their systems and won't be open towards other people's gear (even if they hear it, they try to find fault and dismiss them as soon as possible). The speaker world is the same. General advice is not to be one of them.
  11. So I'm guessing I should keep the Signatures when they arrive.
  12. Long live vintage Audio-Technica and vintage Stax!!!
  13. Ask anyone who uses SET or actually knows proper P-P / OTL circuits. Their view of Cary and their 300B designs is somewhat along the same lines of our view of the Raptor's sound. It's not as clear cut as that in the tube world. I don't think the opposite of tubey mush is accuracy dry. It's more along the lines of euphonious control. I tend to believe the great SET stuff I've heard to be more euphonious than the Cary style of sound.
  14. I've been troubled by almost everything that comes out of Sovkiller's mouth these days. There seriously is no hope.
  15. Yeah, that's true. I had the feeling that a lot of people have heard or owned them though. \
  16. It's funny. I've noticed over the years (from reading personal websites, Audiogon, AudioAsylum, DIYAudio, etc.) that many people move from the tubey warm side over to the clean control side during the course of their audio journey, but I extremely rarely see anyone go the other way.
  17. I'll be honest and say that the HA5k was surprisingly unimpressive for me with every phone I threw at it other than the W5k (it was decent, but not that good). BCL is the Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear. Pretty decent amp imho.
  18. Most would say they're total crap. Think Ultrasones. Others say they're good in a way. Think Ultrasones but with actually something to offer (much more speed and freakishly distinct instrument separation according to those who have owned them for long periods of time).
  19. I'll be honest and say that I think all Caries are way to tubey sounding for me (even though I do enjoy warm to a degree). There have been gigantic wars over the decades about what tube amps are supposed to sound like. Cary is the epitome of the "ultra warm, mushy, tubey 6SN7 to 300B" side; this is their signature and this is what they're know for. Some people swear by this sound because this is their ideal "tube sound". The SET & DHT crowd is usually the opposing factor.
  20. HA5k. Raptor. BCL. Hehe... Well, the thing is that Elephas specifically values certain types of sound signatures that are somewhat unique.
  21. Awesome sequence of posts there.
  22. Haha, oh snap. We want him back!
  23. Hmm, I don't know. I'm guessing he didn't replace them and bought the replacement pads but never actually installed them. Best of luck with the installation. Hopefully it doesn't turn out too hard. Dang... I didn't know they were hard to replace. I'm learning something new everyday about Stax stuff.
  24. Legend of the ATH: 45 years http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/atj/legend_ath/index.html Audio-Technica's official commemorative website. Recently released.
