  1. Get me one too. I played with Purk's in Atlanta and it was so much better interface wise than the AK100 we were using. I would be totally happy with that. **BRENT**
  2. Had to run to my hometown for a minute today and noticed that the old restaurant across from my late Grandmother's house was reopened. I have so many fond memories of that place that I stopped in to see how bad the new rednecks have screwed it up in relation to the sweet old lady co-op that owned it back in the day. There are kids from the high school who just got out of school and it's rather painful listening to them talk. I'm having flashbacks to why I ran kicking and screaming from here. I may take it to go. They do have free WiFi, though, which is nice since you can only pick up EDGE here otherwise. **BRENT**
  3. This is a prototype LaRocco/Triad Audio (I think) amp. Purk should chime in with all the pertinent info when he has a chance. He always brings out some cool toys. **BRENT**
  4. Hey man, welcome! That said, can you please copy the information from the link? I think we actually do have someone in Nashville, right? Just can't remember who. Theo, I can try to make this, but no AriPower if that happens. Would be good to see you again. Any other people near you going? **BRENT**
  5. Anyone who doesn't say AriPower/HF-2 rig was best in show (or, second best, after the GS-X Mk.II with HD800s, to the people with severe hearing damage, because seriously, they are only good if you are the guy on a submarine listening for the enemy walking around on the opposing submarine that's trying to find you) is dead to me. **BRENT** Edit: when packing up all four sets of headphones you take to work with you, remember to grab at least ONE set to take to work with you the next day. Jesus, today sucked. Edit 2: Purk, don't let Lee or Tom Hankins steal my amp. I know they both want the HF-2s!
  6. Good luck! **BRENT**
  7. I was too busy being awesome to take pictures. This dude took pictures, though. AriPower was represented, as was other things that matter less than big orange amps. http://www.head-fi.org/t/714128/atlanta-ga-a-vcoa-presents-may-4th-portable-audio-jam/45#post_10517605 Oh, and those Oppo Headphones are PM-1s, I think. Something like that. There really were some tracks that just sounded stupidly good on them, while there were some that were... odd. It wasn't on my gear, but maybe next time I'll get get to try them out a bit longer. **BRENT**
  8. So I just for back home. I brought a Chatt buddy and met some new people along with some old ones. The highlights of the thing were the GS--X Mk.II from Purk tearing it up and od course the AriPower Extreme with Dinny Edition HF1-2s... And the Stax 002s. Ok, I'm biased, but there really were some great rigs there beyond what we had. We had two pairs of Oppo PM-1s. I am old and crotchety, but with most things I listened to, they were rather good. It would be something I would short list to audition more seriously. Good times. I also found out there is a meet in Nashville on Saturday. Too bad I left the AriPower with Purk in Atlanta because I didn't feel like breaking it down and bringing it home Friends let friends borrow gear, no? Oh! Tom Hankins and his lively wife Lyra were there for a bit. Hated we didn't get a little more time but maybe I can make another weekend of it at some point to hang out more. Thanks to John Morrison (the OP) and the A-VCOA for putting on a solid event! **BRENT**
  9. SHUT YOUR HIPPIE FACE!!!!! **BRENT**
  10. Lots of gear and one Purk. **BRENT**
  11. Leaving on a few. **BRENT**
  12. I want a pair of Oliver Peoples Victory 55s. (Aka the Burn Notice sunglasses). unfortunately, I don't have the headshape of Jeffery Donovan (aka Michael Weston). http://www.nycoptics.com/product/oliver-peoples-victory-58-sunglasses **BRENT** Edit: WIth wrap-around sunglasses, I tend to see those more as an occasional thing as a daily wear thing, and would, like with shoes, want to go with more of a classic "daily wear-with-anything" set for the first set. The wrap-arounds tend to work better as a more specific set. I used to worry about coverage going from Oakley M-Frames to E wires. vs The coverage difference turned out to be much less in reality than what you'd think in theory, because the e wires (lower) sat closer to the eyeball. It still doesn't work for peripheral, but I found that didn't matter as much as you'd think unless you were playing sports. I had these for playing intramural sports in HS. The blue (I think they're blue) lenses really messed with everything for someone who is colorblind (I imagine it made things odd, I guess I can't quite be sure.)
  13. Had a lot posted, but lost it all in a crash. Sigh. I like these, but they're $$$ http://shop.randolphusa.com/randolph/sunglasses-c4.aspx I recommend going to a specialty shop (say Sunglass Hut or even a larger eyewear store) to find something that is going to fit your face shape and size. If you notice those come in 52, 55, and 58mm. I think Dinny has some in a 52, maybe a 55. I'd be a 58mm, easy. I like the bayonet temples for those, or with the Ray-Ban ones, the ones that wrap around completely. The more "typical glasses" ones tend to be balanced WAY forward, and tend to want to slip off (in my experience.) This was pre-Luxottica days, so maybe they're a little different from the Ray-Ban/Bauch&Lomb days, but I haven't looked too hard at those. A much cheaper version of the Randolph ones, but still a long time actual supplier to the military is AO Eyewear. I'm seriously tempted to get some of these this year. Lots of options too. http://shop.aoeyewearonline.com/ Man, I shouldn't look at sunglasses... I shouldn't look at sunglasses. OH! The last time I looked at sunglasses I got some titanium Oakleys for 60 or 70% off at 6pm.com You may want to check there. Actually... I'm going to go check there. Bah. **BRENT** P.S. Congrat on seeing and whatnot. It's kinda nice.
  14. http://slickdeals.net/f/6904683-5-11-tactical-tpt-l2-flashlight-cree-xp-g-led-215-lumen-15-18-tax-fs-free-hat?src=pdw 5.11 Cree 215 lumen light, normally ~55$, on sale for 15.18$ with instructions, and a free hat/free ship as well! **BRENT**
  15. Thanks Nate! No worries re: when it's done. I started early because I knew about it. There is still plenty of time before the event. This year's route is going to be tough. Perhaps someone will get a video of me crying on the side of the road. Brent
  16. A friend bought his wife a CPO'd 2013 328i with the turbo 4. 28k with 17k miles. They love it, and the CPO extends the warranty out quite a bit. **BRENT** Edit: Subaru should have the 2015 WRX out any day now if not already. Short list that... And look into the Focus ST for safety rating. If it's safe, fun works too, no?
  17. So Apple just updated the MBA to Haswell and dropped the price 100$. http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-boosts-macbook-air-processor-cuts-prices-by-100/?ttag=fbwl **BRENT**
  18. Thanks to both of you! I'm looking forward to this even though I just found out my riding buddy bailed due to a scheduling conflict. Now to round up some more people for my distance. **BRENT**
  19. Thanks Dan, I appreciate it! **BRENT**
  20. I have a racing buddy who had a GT-R, Vette, S2k, STi... Now he has a Focus ST and loves it. The guy be bought it from was a friend who had a dealership and has raced BMWs since the 80s, and Porsches, Vettes, 350z/370z, etc. He kinda regrets letting the Focus ST go. The Fiesta ST is also seemingly rather fun. **BRENT**
  21. So there was a Nazi gathering in Chattanooga either yesterday or today. I know someone who went to protest/whatnot. This was probably my favorite thing to come out of it, though... from a little bar I have been known to frequent from time to time called "The Pickle Barrel." One of the bosses took the pic, but it wound up on some NY news outlet. **BRENT**
  22. Have you considered the Cayenne GTS? It's slightly less common (at least around here), but the ones I have seen have been gorgeous. White/Black/Dark grey or silver seem to catch my eye with these. The wilder colors work better with the Cayman and 911 GT3-RS. **BRENT**
  23. Well, with wall mounts and a couch pushed back to the edge of the opposite wall, a 10x10 room (small bedroom size) would put you at around a 9' viewing distance. That is my thinking of "small." **BRENT**
  24. Yeah... The THX guys say you want 94", for sitting 9 ft away. I remember a few years back a friend had a 65 hanging on his wall and it was huge! Now that I got a 60" (it was a steal and a treat to myself for working OT for five months straight, and not having a new TV since 2001), it seems like a good size, but definitely wish I could've gone 70" or so. It's on a long wall, but for viewing distance I'm about 9 ft away. To hit the ideal THX ratio, I'd want to be at 6', where the outer edge of the range almost reaches my viewing distance. Other calculations put it at 1.6x your diagonal size is optimal. 60" is 8 ft. 65" is 8ft 8in. Maybe I should move my couch up. Don't get me wrong... I love my TV and it's a huge upgrade from the 32" CRT that was convex and 4:3... But yeah... When I buy my next TV in 2025 or so, it'll be a 16k 104" whatever-replaces-OLED. **BRENT**
  25. You don't want a 65" 1080p monitor... But for a TV, 65" curved would make a good bedroom/smaller living room set. **BRENT**
