Pars, for CJ, I think 50$ is worth it for the time he'd have to invest while in med school; I believe that's largely the reason. I've been on 23s because that's what came stock on my bike, and I haven't been in a position to spend $$$ to upgrade until I wear those tires out. The Vittorias wore well, and I didn't log enough miles, so still here. I've definitely wanted to move up to 25s or 28s, but 100$ on stuff I don't necessarily need is tough to justify, when I hadn't even had a flat on these tires since I got the bike. Bright side, I have a good trainer tire for this fall/winter. **BRENT** Edit: Pars, you said you don't know what I weigh. I've recently lost 39 pounds, but I'm still about 2x of the smaller/medium sized pro cyclists. I figure I'll go to 28s next year as long as finances allow.

You're going to need a multi-tool anyways. You can get by without a seat pack if you always have a backpack or something with you to carry your stuff in, but you need a tool, patch kit, spare tube, CO2 or mini-pump (or both.) I got some Sugoi shorts a couple/3 years back for like, 17$. I checked to see and they're back up to 50-75$ now, but we can always find some deals somewhere. But yeah, bike shorts make a HUGE difference. I was almost in tears after 20 miles one ride when I was supposed to pick up new shorts at a ride, but they didn't come in, so I had to go without padding, and this was with tons of nerve damage. With some proper shorts, it's nothing. CJ, I'd also recommend getting a lock if you can't take it inside with you to an office or something. You could easily build it yourself with a tool, but 50$ for pro assembly is a good deal, IMO. You can get the important stuff -- helmet, shorts, tool, pump, and patch kit -- for now, and add along as you go. I think the 14$ light set I linked is worth it, as was mentioned above, visibility in the daylight (there are still shadows + 80 year old drivers) is important.. Then, as far as building/maintenance, just do the adjustments yourself as you need them. That way it won't be as overwhelming, and you'll know from the start what it feels like to feel "right." I'm excited for you, man. Also, pix. This thread has too few pix lately. **BRENT**

On the bright side, the meet is in a month, not right now, so you have plenty of time! **BRENT**

For 10 mile rides, I'd totally get some shorts. I think it will help more than a new seat. **BRENT**

He can get by with a helmet, a water bottle and cage, and light tool/bag/tube/pump. He doesn't need pedals/shoes yet. I'd totally do some shorts and some jerseys, but we can find some deals eventually. **BRENT**

Heh, well, don't forget to use my link and I think you may get a discount Too bad it's not 180gr. I really wish it was pink, though. I don't have enough pink vinyl. **BRENT**

If I'm still sick and cancel my 9:30 thing, I'm down for 10. Otherwise, I can hop on at 10:30. Chris, make sure you set up your screenshot button on your wheel. I want some good pics of my taillights. **BRENT**

The Haanjo Metro was my 3rd choice. The Haanjo was probably 2nd. I like that bike. I think, though, that for the intended 95% use, the Century is the way to go. Actually, that Century 2 is pretty sexy for 900$ in an "I'm ok screaming to the world I'm on a Diamondback" kinda way. **BRENT**

http://www.canlanta.org/ Check out the website for an updated list of sponsors and vendors. Oh, what's that, ECP Audio will be there? @justin will be there with HeadAmp. @Tyll Hertsens, @tkam, @Fitz. I'm definitely looking forward to this crew getting together. Anyone else freeing their calendars? @naamanf? @shellylh? **BRENT**

CJ can't do a 20" frame, and he can do that one for 300-360 through his deal. I'm about to look and send you some options. I had more written up, but just buy this one. http://www.diamondback.com/bikes-road-bikes-endurance-century-series-century **BRENT**

Xavier has a Diamondback that we got at 45% off. It was definitely worth that $$$. I definitely would NOT recommend that particular bike for you. Let me look around. Hit me up on FB later tonight (after 8?) and I can definitely find you something. BTW, define "trail" in your mind. Is it more "multi-use trail" or "gravel/dirt path" or "'mountain biking' *wink wink nudge nudge* in *chuckles* Florida" Also, don't judge my knowledge of bike stuff by the video mike posted a few years ago of me on a mtn bike. I couldn't even watch it; I knew how bad it was. **BRENT**

I'm currently on the VIttoria Rubino Pro, and it's the only thing I've had experience with in years. I have a buddy offering a set of Mavic Yksion Pro Powerlink/Griplink in 700x25c for 50$ locally, and he brought them to work. LBS has a Vittoria Rubino Pro in a 25c (I'm running 23c now) for 25$ on clearance, but would be mismatched sizes. 84$ for GP4000s online I see, and some Pro4s for 62$. Heh, while I was typing this buddy got in touch. We talked a bit and he said "how about we do 30$ for the tires, bike club discount." That, well, I can't pass up. **BRENT** CJ, what are you wanting the bike for? Actual mountain biking or just getting around? **BRENT**

I've listened to a bit on Audible lately. Here are some in no particular order: Isaac Asimov - Foundation / For such a famous, well-regarded book, I was more bored by this than by the work i do, which is mind-numbingly painful. The ending was OK; I was reminded of how many books are great, and I'm sad to see them end, and the ending is good enough, but you're sad that it's over. This wound up being about as good as many for an ending, but it was starting to crescendo in the last tenth of the book. It was enough to make me want to read to wikis to figure out what happened next, but i still haven't even done that yet, so... Micahael Lewish - Moneyball / Brilliant book; I want to read some more of his stuff. Andy Weir - The Martian / It was great, and hilarious. I'm glad I read it before watching the movie. John Scalzi - Lock In / Enjoyed it Daniel Suarez - Daemon / Like the one above, another 3-4$ daily deal on Audible that looked interesting, and was. I love finding these cheap reads that introduce me to new authors. **BRENT**

Xavier and I went out for a ride. I got my first flat on this bike in the 3 years I've had it, and it just happened to rip the sidewall. Any tire recs you kids have these days? Check out my 12.3 mi Ride on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/555933828 **BRENT**

Here's the new Vinyl Me, Please for May. Weezer - Pinkerton I was trying to decide between the 4LP deluxe edition or the MFSL edition, but this makes that decision easier, and I'll keep the subscription another month. **BRENT**

You're obviously looking in the wrong places. I'd keep an eye out for Rival S, R-S3, maybe some 888s if those are 200s these days. **BRENT**
