Lightroom/Photoshop/Gaming Box help
Salt Peanuts replied to Salt Peanuts's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
^ That's good to know. Now I just need a case...and my Windows disc, assuming I can remember where I put it - hopefully, I didn't accidentally get rid of it during the spring cleaning. -
Happy Birthday!

Any thoughts on SeaSonic S12G-650 PSU? It's non-modular (hell, the last time I built a computer there were no such thing as modular PSU) but seems to be built well with quality components. Now to find cheap decent case. -

I liked that it offered more USB ports than the competition. I hate dealing with USB hubs. Oh and the dash of blue is nice. -
Lightroom/Photoshop/Gaming Box help

Went in there with the full intention of grabbing a 4690 and a motherboard. Came out with a 4790K and ASRock Z97 Extreme4. In my defense, with their cheaper pricing and bundle pricing available with 4790K/Extreme4, the cost of was same as it would've been had I bought a 4690 with a similar motherboard anywhere else. If anything, Lightoom will run much better. They were, predictably, out of GTX 970 cards. I've a feeling I'm going to end up putting this thing together without a GPU, assuming I can decide on other parts. -

Well, the Microcenter is an evil, evil place and I'm sorry for my wallet. -

Thanks for the suggestions. I just remembered there actually is a Microcenter 30 minutes away, so I can get a better price on at least cpu and motherboard, assuming I'm willing to drive to Boston. -

^ I see that it's out of stockjist about everywhere, not to mention it'll eat more than a ⅓ of my budget. -
With my MBP dead and dying, I'm looking to to build a Windows box based on either 4690(K) or 4790(K). The main purpose of the machine will be for editing photos under Lightroom/Photoshop and gaming. I'm hoping to make it as future proof as possible (not that it's really possible) within the budget. Can anyone here suggest a build/parts list for $1000 (including CPU)? I already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and SSD. Thank you for the help. EDIT - And I'm not doing Hackintosh - I don't need this to be more work and it needs to be.

x2. And the one in my school is pretty bad speed wise.

I think it was on gfxcardstatus' "Dynamic Switching." The gfxcardstatus doesn't retain the settig and reverts back to dynamic switching at every startup, and I'd forgotten to switch to integrated only. I did manage to restart after another pram reset, but it's really just a paperweight at this point since I'm afraid to use it for anything even vaguely critical.

Ah, never mind then. I am glad they came through for you after all that you went through with your pair.

Accompanied my daughter to field trip with her daycare. The good time was had by all.

While I agree the cost of the repair is fair, I would be annoyed that they went ahead with the repair without telling you the cost of the said repair. Unless, of course, you'd asked them to repair it regardless of the cost.

Weird. At least the phone isn't bricked, just that the update won't proceed.

Anyone update their iPhone 5 to 8.0.2? I tried to update my wife's phone and it gets stuck on that whole agreeing to give them your first born child section.

So while Safari is definitely snappier in general in iOS 8, I've noticed it is noticeably slower when I tap/click on a link to another page - it just seem to hang in there for a while before following the link. Anyone else having this issue?

Yeah, I'm switching back to "Integrated Only" once I'm done re-calibrating my MBP screen to have it match as close to my external. I guess I won't be using Photoshop much - at least Lightroom should run well enough.
-
I kept doing the PRAM reset/reboot until it stayed on long enough for me to switch to Integrated only on gfxstatus. FYI, right now I have all the extensions moved back and running on integrated only via gfxstatus and non-Thunderbolt external isn't working. EDIT - Just switched to "Dynamic Switching" via gfxstatus and external monitor is back.
-
Well, I managed to reboot using the steps noted by Shelly. I then installed gfxstatus, which promptly told me that I'm using external monitor (which I wasn't) and I can't use integrated only. I'd have left it alone, except removing all those ATI and AMD extensions made the damn thing run like safe mode in Windows 95 so I did the following - I went back into single user mode and moved all the extension back. Then I reset PRAM couple of times until it let me reboot. This allowed me to reboot long enough to set gfxstatus to integrated only. Shelly - it appears gfxstatus won't let you set integrated only if the extensions are removed. Also, running with integrated only, my 2011 15" MBP isn't letting me use external, it's not a Thunderbolt display, though. Now backing up all my files since that's what I was doing when the damn thing died on me.

Well, I spoke too soon - it appears my GPU has died. Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck.

Congrats, Ian! I'll be expecting a pic of an accent wall.
