It has long been the case. It's a weak argument vs unlimited data. Unlimited data wins all day over surfing the net while on the phone.

Congrats on the 4. In case you are open to options other than the minimal soft type, I'd recommend looking at Otterbox Commuter series. I've been happy with it. It has a soft cover with a hard shell clipped over and comes with a screen protector. The design makes holding, typing, etc. much easier than with no case, solid protection but not overly bulky. YMMV.
