  1. That's the official "Where's my fucking present...? You FORGOT my birthday???!!!" look.
  2. Fixed....and your opinion is now suspect! j/k And HERE is the link for the site I mentioned elsewhere, they have torrent files for the Win 7 ISO's that DigitalRiver used to carry. You just add your own activation key.
  3. I'll likely upgrade on one of my machines, a lesser used but powerful enough Core i5 3rd gen laptop.....
  4. Re-posted from other thread, plus some notes. Shelly, I'm helping Ken with trying to save his old HP. If you have the Activation Key (I imagine it's on the sticker on the machine), I can send you to a legal torrent site with the various Win 7 ISO images that Microsoft USED to host through DigitalRiver. Not sure if there's someone to help your dad in your absence, but it may help..... EDIT: unfortunately, the link is at home so wouldn't be able to send it until later this afternoon/early evening Added notes: ESET is one of the best all-around, has been for years AFAIK. BitDefender is good from what I've read, you also mentioned Kaspersky as well in the other thread. Most AV's are good, some are just better and faster.

  6. And the f-ing reactionists may end up keep their kids out, furthering the ignorance and hate..... Hopefully indeed just posturing.....
  7. Kick ass Jacob! This sounds like a great opportunity....
  8. Happy Birthday Antonio! Enjoy a fine port, I hear it's pretty good there!
  9. x2, and also to Jacob on your project.
  10. I once was asked (insisted) by my sister-in-law for ideas for my birthday or the holidays, forget which. I asked for this very CD, which I had on LP but was not in great condition. Her wide-eyed reaction was "You REALLY want me to go into a store and ask for 'Throbbing Gristle....?!' "
  11. Spent a few hours at the Lowell Folk Festival today. Caught some nice Irish, Klezmer, Bluegrass, and misc. street musicians. Beautiful day, good music, good food, and some nice people-watching.
  12. RIP Buggy, and sorry for your loss Steve. I agree with the others on the burial spot; an emotional choice but ultimately a wise one.
  13. And DON'T ask your spouse (goes off to check life insurance policy)
  14. RIP to E.L. Doctorow. And fuck cancer....again.
  15. I prefer separate units.....I use the SB6121, no issues since plug-in. And I can do what I want in regards to Wi-Fi....going to 802.11ac soon, will cover more of the house and with faster speeds.
  16. "I shall call my HA-1 DAC Chappie....."
  17. Situation dependent. For me, I have a fine integrated amp already in the LFD. So, for me, yes, DAC sound is more important because it will only play that 1one function. The Parasound looks quite nice, I've heard some Halo separates and they were very good. And even the Z-DAC has been shown as good for cheap money; so one assumes things would scale up nicely. If you already have an amp, though, then the NAD is a nice option (and it is modular, so is quite expandable/configurable). I heard it with their new amp using a variation of the n-core modules from Hypex. Lovely, lovely sound!
  18. I sold my HA-1. Liked it a lot, but just couldn't LOVE it (I'm with JP# on this one). Ultimately a little too analytical for my taste, and I wasn't using the headphone out on it, one of its best features. It DOES have a lot of I-O options, including both balanced and single-ended analog inputs. Does the PCM & DSD, has the cool display panel, etc. When I got my LFD LE Mk V integrated, I had my Sony HAP-Z1ES going balanced in to the HA-1, and then to the LFD. Sound was VERY good. Changed it to go single-ended directly from Sony to LFD, sound was GREAT. That was the tipping point for me, when I chose to sell the HA-1. I just took some time to find which DAC would replace it; chanced on the Exogal, got a demo deal from Audiogon, and am not looking back. The HA-1 has more I-O options than the Exogal, but for me and my limited use, the sound improvement is way worth it.
  19. Excellent idea to meet with professor, and lots 'o' luck!
  20. Probably not worth TOO much effort, but do you have restore disks? If your Blue Screens are SW related (and having BIOS recognize the optical drive but the OS not makes me wonder/think that), maybe a restore and Windows Update keeps you going for a bit longer......
  21. Wow....getting to be some scary extremism on all sides in this country......
  22. Just made reservations for a place in East Boothbay Harbor Maine for Karen's birthday weekend. Same place we stayed at last year, we both loved it. Happy wife = happy me!
  23. Wow, sad indeed. Reminds me a bit the situation of Eva Cassidy. Checked out some songs, a haunting and soulful voice. Will certainly check out more, thanks Dusty.
  24. I hear they also have the Stax Fart
  25. From what I've read, Bowie basically saved Iggy from a heroin-induced downfall and possible death.....and Bowie all but ignored his album at the lime (was it Lodger?) to tour with Iggy. Cool stuff..... BTW, silly side story: when I had an apartment with a no pet policy ~ 1987, my girlfriend and I shopped for hamsters. We found a nice pair where one had a zig-zag stripe on his back. And as such, Iggy and Ziggy came to live with Todd (girlfriend Barbara did not live with me, though; ultimately a good thing, I was not good enough for her at the time. TMI).
