No one famous, but RIP to one of my oldest friend's dad, Irving Bieler. My mom and my friend Larry's mom have known each other since they were 13. Larry and I grew up in the same town until his family moved to MD when he was about 14 or so. We always kept in touch, and he moved around a fair bit, landing back here in MA once for a few years. Larry and I are 50. He lost his brother to cancer last year (I think his brother was only 1 or 2 years older). And he just lost his dad to cancer as well. So, RIP "Uncle" Irv, and fuck fuck fuck fuck you cancer!

Just seeing this on the larger screen, pretty epic! I also like the plans for the house/trailer.... Congrat, and good luck with all plans!

Bummer. Good luck Carl, and like Al says, here's to NO on large reptilian things.

I see a potential market opportunity. Genetically engineered pigs who produce flat bacon. [runs off to see if there's a patent]

For commercial/pre-made, there are some nice ones from Omega (cheaper price) and Teresonic (mid to high). Lowther USA used to sell some decent pre-made bass reflex designs with options for the drivers, I used to own a pair that were pretty nice. Audience The One (or multi-driver variations all with single drivers being driven full range) have been on my "I ought to try them out" radar, too. A bunch of individual people/companies pop up as well. Blumenstein, John Blue, etc. I have been looking for cabinets like Occam Audio's FR-4 (discontinued, and they won't make any more). I have a set of 3 CSS FR-125 drivers and would like to try that for desktop or very small space. Then of course are the discontinued: Loth-X (maybe still around), Moth, Cain & Cain (unless someone kept it going after Terry's death), etc.

Interesting....what rubbed you the wrong way, if you're willing to say? In any case, good that an offer was there. EDIT: and Damn! I was hoping to have an "in" for that multi-vitamin price reduction!

Thanks for the work and upgrade Todd! Looking nice to me so far, haven't flexed much forum muscle yet though -

^^^ Agree and disagree, and for my example the Oppo HA-1 is perfect. I was indeed wow'd by the detail, bass slam, and the bells and whistles it offered when I first heard it. Over time, though, I was engaged less and less, not more - IE, I adjusted away from the sound, not towards it. The new normal was not quite as pleasing to me, even though I had used it for months. I think in many cases you're absolutely right, we do adjust to a component's sound and often accept it. But not in this case for me.....

QFT. Longer-term listening bears out a lot.....

Ditto, sorry to hear the about the internship, and good luck on the others....I also agree they should have been clearer with what they wanted.

Windows 10 - Who's upgrading tomorrow?
skullguise replied to postjack's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Upgrade to Win 10 done on laptop, looks nice, and boots up clean. Running JRiver to my DAC, no issues. This is the primary use for the laptop, so that's good. I'll probably take this on vacation as well, will get more of workout then. -
Windows 10 - Who's upgrading tomorrow?

Chris, wouldn't a lot of the graphics be handled by GPU these days? CPU processing would be even more minimal.... I tend to turn off many of the tricks and treats myself in any case. Part of it is due to the days where it made a difference, and part of it is I'm old and grumpy and like the interfaces to be simple. Actually, I also think it's because I was never into gaming (well, since the very original Castle Wolfenstein in stunning EGA) that the nice effects never sucked me in. -
I think wiping it with zeroes would be 100% fine, but only if you do the whole drive and not just the index/contents section. Some programs out there will do multiple passes, too. Not sure what is out there for Mac Wiping SW, but I have had no issues with wiping PC drives this way.
