Rant away Larry. Ultimately it's better to have you here ranting then not to have you here. Only wishing the best for you and your daughter with each new day. And hoping the slogan "no pain no gain" is appropriate, and it means you ARE progressing with PT.

I'm done for the holidays! Had a very nice Hanukkah celebration at my sister's tonight, the last family party of the season. It was a little low key, normally my dad and step-mom host; but my dad wasn't feeling well so it moved. It was a little bit "thrown together" but that made it actually more personable. Saw some very nice folks we see only a few times a year, and had some great food and chats. But that's it now. The benefit of being Jewish with early holidays....now I can relax and coast through Christmas!

Hope rest helped some, and hope things get better soon!

Thanks all! The Patriots managed to fuck some of it up, but Karen made a nice birthday/Hanukkah meal with things like potato latkes, matzoh ball soup....and pork loin A nice relaxing day otherwise, watched some other good football and managed to put up a couple lights after some painting was done..... Still have a dinner out Tuesday to look forward to..... Now to settle with a wee dram methinks.

Sounds a bit stupid and corny, but I always loved his OJ commercial..... RIP Robert...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZIzRqDOSZo

Different systems, and one person's opinion, so grain of salt warning.... I think it may be more the surrounding pieces, not the DAC itself, that are different. (EDIT for clarity: I mean the DAC CHIP itself, and the inside the box changes: output stage, I/V stage, etc. Didn't mean the other equipment) To my ears, the new M12 had a slightly more balanced tonal quality. I never seemed to lose details with the M51, but the mids seemed recessed sometimes (that may have contributed to the huge soundstage they seemed to throw), and the highs also seemed slightly rolled. Again, no seeming loss of detail, but that proverbial "air" wasn't fully there. The M12 seemed to flesh out vocals a bit better, and did seem to have more air up top without any harshness. At the dealer, I was able to plug in my USB stick and play some of my music. I was able to discern a large soundstage still, but a more even/prominent midrange especially for female vocals, piano, etc. And cymbals on good recordings had a nice decay to them that could be a bit muted on the M51. Just a couple examples. As Purk said, the M51 still is available, so as a less expensive option than the M12 is still a good option. I am just one of those who agrees that it betters the M51 in sound quality.

Wow, so sad....I'm also assuming related to current or past drug use....fuck addiction (and there are WAY too many young kids dying) RIP.....

The M (Master) series is not the same as the C series. There is trickle-down tech used in the C series, though. The M12 is indeed the M51 replacement (told to me by the NAD rep at a dealer demo night). It's a very nice unit, with plug-in modules in the back for additional functionality. At that demo, it was paired with the Master series amp, which uses an amp module variant licensed from Hypex. Quite a nice sounding system, driving new PSB line of speakers (got to meet and chat with Paul Barton, too).

Congrat Shelly, lot of accomplishments! And Iain....someone actually had a "would you buy a bridge from this man?" moment? Cool!

^^ I saw that on pre-order for $400.....I'd be potentially interested in that set, Marc. Thanks!

Oh, it's fine, instant re-install and all worked great. I just liked the message....still, it would be fun to TRULY plug and play....when will Microsoft get it? I had Plex installed on one of my machines, ended up with JRiver (server service) which worked better for me, and also allowed my Pioneer N-30 streamer to recognize my library easier.

Happy Birthday!

JP, got one myself, using it at work. Spot on IMO when you say "Lots of texture and spatial cues." Using mine with Cardas-cabled Senn 650's. BTW, when I first went to install the driver, something hiccupped on my machine....it gave me a message that made me sad in an Austin Powers kind of way (OK now)

Bad and good news Ian. Sorry she lost the pup, but it sounds like you'll get her a bit sooner, which is good. And you'll worry less about taking care of the puppy.... Good luck!
