  1. RIP to two more.......continuing to be a hell of a year.....
  2. Happy Birthday!!
  3. Second college visit completed in PA (Dickinson and Bucknell completed, Lehigh and Lafayette remain). Made our way to the last hotel which will serve as base for the final 2 visits. I gotta say....the the ride between Eastern and the Middle of PA is pretty fucking dreary.....
  4. Happy Birthday!!
  5. I saw him I think on that same tour. Some drunk asswipe kept yelling for Bela Lugosi's Dead and Peter let him have it after a while. Good show all around....
  6. Happy birthday! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. Happy Birthday! C'mon in and see us sometime
  8. This. And if you always paid at least minimum due and on time, that's a GOOD thing in their book.
  9. ^^^ I'd have to say not dirty..... Bruins embarrassed at home on Milan Lucic's return to Boston. 9-2. Horrible home record, away record keeping them in playoff spot. Hoping they are sellers come trade deadline....
  10. Jesuit Christmas....! Don't check weather reports for a day or so, and 1-3" turns into 5-8" My son may get a 4-day weekend out of this.... EDIT: we got the call tonight, no school tomorrow.....
  11. Ditto on the Amanda Palmer tribute, just purchased. Also will be listening soon to another Bowie tribute album, Lea DeLaria's House Of David. EDIT: Holy Shit is ^^^ this puke-inducing. I had heard Lea had a decent voice - she does - but she completely redoes Bowie tunes in a crappy lounge jazz way. NOT recommended. Off to listen to some GOOD jazz:
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Yay, wife Karen is back. Flew in this morning, switched her flight from last night which was a great idea. Picked her up at the airport, we went to the (somewhat) new Boston Public Market for a quick run-through, then ate in a nice North End restaurant. Followed that with visits to pastry shops and deli to get some goods for the road, then back to the Market. Nice to have her home with us. I DO like the bachelor/dad time, but it's a too empty without her. Fireplace fire and a movie likely tonight.
  14. Aside from work, did some good stuff for Andrew's future: Wrote a check for depositing to his Roth IRA - working only weekends, he still made enough for > $2k to go to in Helped him with his National Honor Society application Uploaded some docs for an application to a computer summer program at a local Polytech College Accrued some future "kid loves his mom" points by ordering Shari's Berries for Karen, from me and him (Karen went down to FL last weekend to be with her mom, who had walking pneumonia; thankfully much better now, and Karen deserves something nice) Feeling some positive energy today.
  15. Sorry too, Haj. Storm snowfall rates had been increased up here, but still not as bad as that last storm to the south of us. Thanks to snow tires and a 3-mile commute, I was at work for 1/2 day before coming home to complete the day. Did a little shoveling, our plow person will do the rest. Good luck to all in the path!
  16. RIP to all. Especially Dave, so young, and left so much behind.....
  17. Ian, excellent job on the wall, looks great! As for the Courtney AirBnB situation, good luck, hope it works out OK. The good news is, I can't imagine the types you DON'T want near you would stay 30 days. So, it may be less transient types, or not rented at all. Either case may be OK.
  18. I think I totally missed Richie Havens when it happened....or more likely, can't remember shit. Dusty, that has more than a "touch" of melancholy, thanks for posting it. I wasn't familiar with them/him (Colin Vearncombe), very sad to read it was from an accident and he was in a coma. And only 53.... RIP all....
  19. Thanks gents. Nate: there's been a lot of executive turnover in the last couple years, so the CIO going is kind of the last item on the agenda. Brian thought he may be gone, but not at this time and not in this way. I and one other person are officially consultants/contractors, so we may be more tenuous on the keeping-them scale. But we're both pretty deeply involved with projects that are important to the company. Not worried overall one way or another about us. Just happened to like the CIO.....
  20. Weird day today. Bit of a story..... My boss Brian was waiting/looking for our CIO to catch up with him today, he was involved with some vendor negotiations on a high profile project. They just had some meetings yesterday. Day goes on, this afternoon Brian asks me for some info on some SW licensing. I had to gather some info up and filter out some accounts still listed in our system, but who aren't there anymore (the folks who maintain our Active Directory users don't do it well IMO). I am going through, getting names of inactivated users, and boom - our CIO's user account is disabled. I call him over, he IM's someone he knows who is offsite today, who is VERY surprised and doesn't know why it's disabled. Then we check with someone else onsite, and sure enough the CIO is gone as of today. Not being announced until tomorrow. Big upheaval for my boss' projects, and therefore some of mine. I think we'll go ahead with many or most, but the future is a bit weird as of now. Not worried about losing my job (remote chance, but I suppose possible); but this could change some direction in bigger ways. Tomorrow may be even weirder.
  21. Oh, man.......fuck......RIP Richie Havens.......
  22. RIP Abe. Fish was one of my favorite characters, though Barney Miller had several great ones....
  23. My family went to the MIT museum some months ago, his work was well-documented there, with so much that he spawned in his students. An amazing person. RIP......
