  1. Bit of a Folk/Indie kick....really like the Samantha Crain album.....
  2. They're a pretty reputable company, Shelly. A couple solid steps above DIY, but they've been doing it for several years (if not longer). They've had some decent designs on the Hypex modules, and now Purifi. The NC ranges are all Hypex nCore, with different modules or levels of extras/quality. The Purifi uses the Purifi modules. They also have one amp that uses the Stereo ICEEdge module, used to be B&O but is new (and better then the older ICEPower modules). I actually have a tweaked out EVS dual-mono ICEEdge amp I'm selling too (a measly 600wpc 8ohms/1200 into 4). But of all, my personal preference would probably be the Purifi amp modules. I don't think Nord did as much to tweak the input stage as my all-in-one builder has; and if Ric Shultz @ EVS decides to build an amp using the Purifi module, he'll tweak it for best sound too.
  3. I second the NCore and Purifi-based amps recommendation. My all-in-one uses modified Purifi amp modules and is pretty awesome. The Hypex UcD & nCore, and the Purifi modules, are all from the same core designer, Bruno Putzeys; and that was the first Class D I REALLY liked..... The new NAD M33 DAC/Streamer/Amp uses the Purifi modules, too. The others use (slightly modded I believe) nCore modules.
  4. Holy fuck......RIP....!
  5. ^^ RIP Bill English. Interesting, too, that his invention was 3 years before Xerox PARC; I always though it was AT Xerox....
  6. I hate to laugh as he just passed, but that WAS funny.....
  7. RIP Mr. Brimley.... Such an interesting history! In addition to what Ric quoted: "He had a pleasant singing voice and recorded several albums of jazz standards, including “This Time the Dream’s on Me” and “Wilford Brimley With the Jeff Hamilton Trio.” He could more than hold his own as a guitarist too"
  8. Happy Birthday, namesake!! And thanks for all you do!
  9. The Roon Nucleus is not worth the $. You can spend 1/2 to 1/3 of that, get more power, and load Roon Rock OS for free. I did that with a NUC (two NUC's actually, one at home and one on a Windows NUC in Maine condo). At home I installed a 2TB SSD for my music, and in Maine I use an external USB drive with a 500GB SSD. Both still cheaper than either Roon Nucleus pre-made box.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. RIP John Saxon. Loved Don Winslow's Tweet:
  12. Very Happy Birthday!!
  13. Roon requires a "core" server, be it a standalone machine or the core SW on another machine; and yes, always on. One of the things I love about Roon is the ability to have many different endpoints. I have had up to 7 endpoints active in my home, several streamers and a couple network-enabled table speakers (Naim and Elac). Very easy to use and direct output to any of the endpoints, and can access local library as well as Tidal and Qobuz services through the same interface. It also has some metadata capabilities that I like as well, info on artists, recommendations in the genre, and the like. Roon "remotes" can be on mobile devices or desktop devices as well..... If ALL you want to do is use a streaming service, and to one or a limited number of devices that need to be network-ready, Roon may be overkill.
  14. Steve if you could and would make those panels, that'd be porn enough for me. But in the meantime.....
  15. This, very much this....RIP......
  16. That's OK, you can still mourn.....😉
  17. The guitarist Gary Moore died in 2011.....
  18. RIP to two greats......America has indeed lost a lot.......
  19. RIP Matsuo-san. A maroon 240Z (my dad & stepmom's) was the first car I drove when practicing for my drivers license.....
  20. x2, in and done as well. I give to the Mass. SPCA as well.....these places do wonderful work.
  21. I think you could do pretty much all of Altered Images music.....mmmmmm, 80's Claire Grogan EDIT: holy crap, it led me to this....a tiny bit of awesome.....mmmmmm, 60's Carolyn Jones......
