Live-streaming Mary Fahl on FB.......not great sound, but still such passion in her "alone" performance! EDIT: she ended with an a cappella version of Amazing Grace.....perfect for the time, and her voice delivers it so well!

RIP Lee and Brian..... RIP to Mr. & Mrs. Cohen, a couple in the Boston area. Saw a news story about them. Married 77+ years, separated only during WW2. Both in a nursing home, vowed to stay with each other to the end. She contacted COVID-19, he did not but still had pneumonia from another issue. With a nurse in PPE and holding each of their hands at times, they stayed together. She died I guess 12 hours after him on the same day. He was 102, she 97. I'm tearing up just typing this.....sad, yet so beautiful.....

The Never Ending Search for a Music Server

Nate, another possibility is the Cocktail Audio N15 streamer. Lots of services including Tidal, Qobuz, and Roon. Has analog and digital outs, and a tray for a 2.5" drive. There's one on sale for $399 if you (or if not you, others) are interested, I can send link. I think there's a new "D" revision, the sale one is the old one in the Amazon link above. -

The "gold badge" Adcom stuff was their best. My first ever separate power amp was a (close to) cube-shaped Adcom GFA-1A. Punchy little thing, good power and decent (based on memory) sound.....

^^^ Same here! I had some exchanges with Art when he was at Listener, I was travelling to Israel at the time and it was a dangerous time with Iraq. He was such a great guy, and I loved his approach to writing and reviewing. His first concern was of the safety of this total stranger.... RIP Art, and fuck cancer!

A whole bunch of years ago, a dealer in NH I frequented had a Manufacturer night with Michael Green of Roomtunes. They had Rowland mono amps and a pair of Aerial Acoustics speakers. I used to listen to them, and think that either the amps or speakers or both were not worth the price. They sounded a bit dull and lifeless. During that night, Michael did his thing, with his things....he said at one point he was about 50% done, but they started having folks come in and listen Night...and....fucking....day. Dynamics, space, precise imaging, and more all of a sudden was THERE. As nice as that room was, his "50%" showed off what the system could do. And from that day forward, I never doubted Rowland or Aerial....

I'm also waiting to see if Roon gets Amazon's new (lossless/hi-rez) music service integrated. Depending on the breadth of content, i'd be all over that..... -

I've been on Tidal for a while, enjoying it combined with my own library. I have found some obscure things on Tidal that are tough to find. I actually find some of the non-MQA releases sound better than MQA on Tidal! Some others have echoed my thought. For me, I added Roon to the equation, and love it all. I am a huge fan of the convenience, and have several Roon endpoints about the house (and in my Maine condo....if i ever get back up there!). -
Last night about 30 people in our neighborhood managed to socially-distantly gather near a neighbor's house. The mom is a nurse, and volunteered to help in ICU with the COVID-19 patients. Thankfully she had plenty of PPE she said, but still a risk of course. We all cheered and clapped as she drove in the neighborhood. Their daughter, somewhere out West, was on Facetime with her dad, and she was balling. She's supposed to get married in early August, plans are certainly TBD now.... There are so many wonderful and amazing people in this world, and I'm thankful for them all!

I'd recommend a used Auralic Aries Mini. Can handle all types of music (FLAC and DSD), has a built-in DAC and RCA analog outs, and coax/optical/USB out for digital out to DAC. Connects via ethernet or WiFi. You can use an external USB HDD, or mount a 2.5" inside. Transferring music is a bit slow/tedious, but it works. The App for it isn't bad, but I use mine with Roon & Tidal as it's a recognized Roon Endpoint. These are tough to find used, but a fairly nice option. Another thought: an SMSL DP3 (https://www.amazon.com/Headphone-Amplifier-SMSL-DP3-Turntable/dp/B07CQKKY5B). A kind of nice all-in-one unit, lots of similarities to Aries Mini with a few differences: 1) has a headphone out; ok, not great, 2) does ethernet, WiFi, and Bluetooth, 3) has a screen for seeing what is going on, 4) internal storage is SD card, 5) BUT....app interface is Hiby App, connected via Bluetooth, and I don't like it much at all. It has other connectivity options (DLNA, Airplay, etc.) so maybe there is a better interface out there. All that said, I have one of these if you want to try/borrow it Nate, along with the other stuff to come your way. 😊 -
A very apt description, I've listened to V but not yet VI. And speaking of Brian Eno, listened to this the other day:
