My condolences to Todd and his family, and the friend's family as well. Only spoke once and emailed once with Todd, but this is clearly a good guy who has a passion for this hobby.

Is this possible ? Or just another snake oil ?
skullguise replied to forbigger's topic in Miscellaneous
There had been some write-ups before, I think ET may have had this at a show of some sort. But this had to be over a year ago, it's odd that there hasn't been as much press..... -
One more for the win....oh, WISH Very Happy BDay, and enjoy the weekend!!!

You're not alone.....I felt the same way when I demo'd the 840c against a better-in-many-aspects Primare player. The upper mids were the part that bothered me the most. Back on topic...... I prefer the "Backstroke of the West" to all edited or undedited versions.....

Does the Droid X use Andoird 2.1? I've read that 2.2 is a nice boost up..... I have a 1st Gen Droid, like it a lot too. I'm also curious about tablets (non-phone) that are coming out with Android OS on them. Some of the Chinese imports do, but Archos is introducing a whole line of iPod Touch-like players to iPad-like tablets - max price $399 IIRC. Could be pretty fun.....

Some pretty good reading on another forum I frequent: Outdoor grilling, Grills and cooking tips - Tweak City Audio and Smoking meat - Tweak City Audio Used to be a GREAT thread on AV123 forums, but since they went belly-up it disappeared. It talked a lot about the BGE's, and some competition. Plenty of food forums out there to check out, too, if you have the patience.

Why do so few DACs support 88.2 and/or 176.4 kHz?
skullguise replied to blessingx's topic in Home Source Components
Hmmmm, interesting observations on the Lavry, thanks for them. I owned the DA-10 for a while, guess I didn't fiddle with it enough! I'm enjoying the Parasound 1600HD now, though (along with a couple Sabre32 implementations, DIY Buffalo32 and EE Minimax DAC); so I may not be tempted to bite the Lavry apple again too soon. Oh, and BTW, nice Bill & Ted reference! -
^^^ These sound exceptionally good driven by the Audio-GD gear, too! But I'd consider a J$ replacement headband, the weight of them will pull down on your head.

Wow.....someone has lost it! Dakiom.....

Actually, it'd work fine if he put it in a coconut shell -
Searched this forum, didn't see it before. I tried a couple of Mr. Kim Dao's adapters years ago, as part of a discount-for-review program when he first went into business. They didn't do well in my system, he thought it was a mismatch with my modded CD player. Still, he posted the review, hats off to him. Over the years, I've seen his diatribe grow. But methinks he may have gone over the edge now. Read if you can.... Dakiom MA203 &diy5, proven For Sale | AudiogoN

Interesting, I would not normally describe any implementation I've heard of the Sabre32 DAC as "warm." But I thought the comments overall were interesting. I have heard a glare with the 840c that bothered me some, it was more upper mids/lower treble as I thought; I'm wondering if that's what he refers to. I strongly preferred a Primare CD player that I compared to the Cambridge.....

Haj, just because you have a baby now doesn't mean you should get on Head-Case THIS early

I owned the EC/SS a couple years ago, and own the Schiit Asgard now. Apples and Oranges, since no direct comparison, but I'd classify the Schiit as more dynamic/powerful, and slightly more fun. The EC/SS is more maybe refined and slightly more neutral IIRC. EC/SS went well with my Grado's and Deepak's HP-2 at the time, and even managed to make a Beyer sound pretty decent. The Schiit is likely to be more suitable for more variety of cans, though. The EC/SS sounded decent, but a bit lifeless on some of the cans I threw at it (couple AKG's most noticably, 271's and 701's). I don't have those same cans now, but the Schiit would likely have more dynamic sound. Haven't listened to it for a few weeks now, but that midrange glare I heard in my first days listening was still there slightly at last run. Not wholly intrusive, but noticable to me. My 2 cents, worth probably about half that.....

Couldn't find based on a couple searches, but admittedly didn't exhaustively search. So if some kind soul can put away a shovel and answer me this, it'd be much appreciated. I sold off a brielfy-used Stax SRM-007t II when I got JP#'s exStatA. I had no issues with the volume controls, and L/R trackign was fine. Buyer doesn't have phones yet, nor someone near him with phones to borrow. But he noticed that the L/R volume controls behave differently. One rotates nearly 360 degrees ("normal"), but the other goes around and around. No mention of catches or clicks.....I also need to get clarification on which does what.... But wanted to throw this out here. Can someone tell me if this is normal behaviour/function? Truth be told, I never tried to trun the volume separately that way....not like that's normal bevaior, I guess Any info appreciated. Thanks, Todd.

Choosing between Audio-gd FUN and Nuforce HDP
skullguise replied to miyinan's topic in Headphone Amplification
Lancers.....thanks guys! I was searching Mateus, but knew it wasn't that bottle..... And old story related to me on Boone's Farm. My brother used to work in college at a liquor store near his school. Someone comes in on one of his first days and asks for (phonetic spelling, with caps on accented syllable) "Boo-ENNIS FERM-ay." Thinking it was some unknown Spanish or Portugese wine he hadn't heard of, he asked the senior guy on staff, who brought their Boone's Farm to them..... He and my brother chuckled quite a bit on that one. -

wadia 170i or onkyo nd-s1 ipod transport?
skullguise replied to aradix85's topic in Home Source Components
On a non-colorful note, I've heard of some reliability issues with the Onkyo..... -
Summary only, no details? Must be the cables..... Actually, thanks for the notes, not wholly surprised, though.

Saw Judy Collins and guest Sonya Kitchell at the Pavilion at Salisbury Beach, MA, last night. The goods: - Sonya Kitchell is a nice performer, her music is pretty passionate. Only did maybe 6 songs, but I liked them all. She set up at the table where they were selling her CD's, and signed and chatted a bit - Judy Collins still has a stunningly lovely voice, with plenty of pitch and strength. She is also stunning in her presence as well, with lovely long platinum/white hair and a looking quite regal in a nice black dress - Judy is a great storyteller, some nice stories about the "old days" of the folk scene in the 60's - Song selection was pretty good, though my favorite were some Tim Buckley and Leonard Cohen songs The bads: - Sonya had a bit of sound trouble on her first song; interrupted the flow, but she did OK despite this - Judy DID slip a tiny bit a few times, forgetting lines but catching up almost immediately - I hate to say it, but I feel Judy kind of "jumped the shark" at this performance....explanation: Despite the small venue and some loving vociferous fans, she never seemed to really "connect." I saw her back in 1996/7, just at a local college gymnasium, and felt she was more personal and bonding better with the crowd, despite a sterile, cheaper location. She "performed" for the crowd quite well last night, with what seemed an almost pre-arranged spontaneity, and then she left REAL fast; my wife and I were one of the first out the door, and Judy and her piano accompanist were already rushing to the car which was driving them away, having ran out the back door. She didn't even respond to my "Thank you, Judy" (and I'm sure she heard me, she was perhaps 10 feet away). I swear, I wasn't running after her with a crazed look in my eye Still, a very nice show, she still has the voice and presence in spades. The perceived attitude could be any thing, even just a bad day. But I compared it to the last time I saw her, and the emotion was different.

Major Surgery Revives 35 Year Old Amp
skullguise replied to agile_one's topic in Headphone Amplification
Very lovely indeed; congrats, Gene. Any "before" pictures? -
Agreed. Used to own the 3.0's. They DO shine MORE with better amps, but indeed are not so picky. When I sold them, I demo'd them with a cheaper Jungson 88C integrated, 80wpc; they soudned pretty darn good even with that. Then I hooked up a Belles 250i integrated, 120wpc (and a great amp, I miss it; the guy I sold mine to is selling it on Audiogon). Made a NICE difference, the extra watts provided that much more dynamic punch....as well as every other part of the sound being much better. But they were still quite good even with the cheaper amp.....
