  1. I was thinking about this, and I think what happened to the Habs happened to the Bruins the first time they played Pittsburgh after the Cooke hit on Savard. Bettman was there, spoke to the teams (owners? GM's?), and the feeling was it was going to be so tight to play. As a result, the Bruins came out with a thoroughly lackluster performance. Cooke took a very short and light beating from Shawn Thornton, and the Pens walked away with the game easily. Montreal is certainly MUCH better than they played that night.....and as I said, I still fear them if the Bruins play them in the PO's.
  2. Actually went on a date with my wife last night. My son was at a sleepover birthday party, so we went to a local Boston-style trendy wine bar and overpaid for small portions Still, it was nice to get out as adults, food was very good, and I tried a Sandeman Ruby port after dinner. Decent cheap port, though I think I like Six Grapes better.... Nate, hope your daddy-daughter weekend is going well. I've always enjoyed the time with my son (despite this post).
  3. Thoroughly enjoyed the Bruins-Canadiens game last night, even though it was so one-sided; Bruins finally won a good game of hockey against them. The Habs have had the Bruins' number pretty much all year. And with the build-up of the Pacioretty hit, and the closeness of the race for home ice advantage in the first round, it shaped up to be a truly big game. I was ecstatic about the way the Bruins played, but disappointed that the Habs didn't do better; they ARE very much a better team than what they showed. Despite the confidence that this gave the Bruins, I still fear them facing Montreal in the first round if it works to be that way. And it sounds like Pacioretty may be back for the playoffs, wishing him all the best.....
  4. Good luck to all, for jobs and clean ears!
  5. Extra warm thoughts and wishes coming your way from here, too! Sorry it wasn't the best of days, it deserves multiple extra celebrations when things settle, to make up for it!
  6. Happy Belated to both! Hope they were great days
  7. Happy Birhtday, may it be a good night! 5-9 (pm to am ) celebration
  8. Talked or e-chatted to a couple folks from my old company....they had a layoff of 27 people in IT alone.....maybe 20-35%......outsourcing..... Some are transitioning and will get a bonus if they stay on to help; that's not so bad. But I'm sure it was an exhausting, horrible day for everyone.
  9. I served last year during a civil trial, it was pretty interesting. We had to take the emotion out of it (we were all feeling very bad for a guy that had an accident), and focus on the legal rules. He ended up not getting any settlement. It was only a day and a half, and a decent learning experience. We also realized that his council stunk; they should have easily been able to recognize the legal ruling that would have dismissed his complaint. And because they didn't file for something in the situation where the employer WAS likely negligent, they got nothing.....
  10. Good luck Jacob and Bryan! And dangit, someone used the "break a leg" line already! My advice is not to promise any sexual favors.....HINT, but don't promise.....
  11. I work near a Target store, went there after work, it was maybe 5:15. I wasn't even thinking of the ipad 2 release.....when I walked around the electronics section, I could almost hear crickets. I popped in the row where they have the apple gear, and remembered the release (a really big note that they were available at 5:00 didn't escape this watchful eye ). All of a sudden, an in-store security guy comes to me, and says they have some ipad 2's FS up at the counter, several models left.....I thanked him, but said I wasn't interested in buying today. It was just very weird; from my one isolated perspective, the launch wasn't a big deal.
  12. Funky guitar work, reminds me a bit of Vini Reilly/Durutti Column.....
  13. Happy Birthday!
  14. Knwo what you mean, Dinny. My new job is chock full of people who love to meet.....and then meet about meeting..... I got called in to a meeting late afternoon today, and they requested I take over some work a consultant is doing (I'm contract to perm, not as pricey hourly as they are). The consultant who was presenting said to me afterwards that they spent 25 minutes trying to talk things through, and when I got there we resolved the action plan in about 5 minutes. Lots of challenges, but some really good people and a bright future for creativity. Looking very forward to getting over that hurdle of inactivity.

That IS nice, nothing super-special about the Skagen's but I like them. I have the charcoal face/no date Titianium model, my wife and I got matching ones in Aruba when we traveled there. We spent about $100 on each....and then she lost hers
  16. In H-C alcoholic tradition, but maybe in not as good taste as many here, I picked up a six of Abita Springs Turbo Dog.....
  17. Sad news all around, so sorry to hear of it all, especially the Zachary news. I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child.....my thoughts and best wishes are with the family. Not sure if it'd help, Nate, but if you think so please let the family know how much your raffle and his story touched us here.
  18. It has a Tone control....haven't seen that since transistor radios timeframe methinks.....
  19. Good idea to give to a shelter.....I think they'd take whatever you're willing to give. For our cats, I give them California Natural dry food....best I've tried for them. They would occasionally toss kitty cookies with some of the other brands. EDIT: just saw the post on weight for cats My cat SOTA (named after the turntable manufacturer, and famous as the "Rambo Bose Kitty" on Head-Fi) peaked at just over 31 pounds! 450+ human pounds? ? ? ? ?
  20. That play sucked for MP.....hope he recovers quickly enough. He's a good player.... Even as a Bruins fan, I think they should have metered out a smaller suspension for Chara (2-3 games? Who knows). Yes, Chara is not "that" type of player, and it was a late hit that may not even get called in another situation. But even when a good player makes a bad judgement, there should be some message sent. And that said, for the true "intent" penalties, the suspension should be a LOT stiffer.
  21. Stereo Review had once bascially said speakers are the most important, and everything else sounds the same if it measures well. So I think you're ready to go! Seriously, I think the DX4 is a nice driver, without going nuts in price. I had them in a simple bass reflex tower bought from Lowther America, and drove them VERY nicely with some Wright 2A3 mono's, as well as a Pathos Twin Towers integrated (this was all before we had our child; exposed tubes and sharp and hot class A equipment went away after we did). Slight brashness in the vocal region, but not quite that "honk" that is sometimes claimed.....
  22. Richard Thompson, Dream Attic. On sale at a Border's closing up shop near me.....
  23. HBD, Nate! Hope it was a great day and continues into the night. I still owe you your ATC Conditioner, don't forget it
  24. 'Appy Birthday!
  25. Good luck on impending interviews, and impending....romances? I like these types of stories a lot.
