  1. RIP....
  2. Sounds like no fun, Haj. Couple folks at work were talking about the "latest" stomach thing going around.... Hope you feel better soon!
  3. Congrats Al, and Wayne. Doesn't matter how she was dressed, just that she was on your lap! Bigger question: was she naughty or nice?
  4. Got a tiny bit more time with the NuWave this weekend, more like Sunday afternoon....all I said before remains: this thing does space & detail very well, does some very nice resolution of instruments and voice in that space. I don't have them side by side, but still say the NAD M51 is even more resolving and neutral. The NWD seems to get a bit more air up in the treble, though. It has a very slight lushness or warmth that is musically appealing. This is a very good, perhaps great DAC at the $695 price, and still a relatively easy recommend at $795.
  5. Glad to hear you landed OK, Nate, hopefully all your stuff did too. And happy to hear of mending Vicki!
  6. ^ That....yay for raises!
  7. This....big congrats, and dying to hear if the long arm of the law gets shortened a bit....
  8. Thanks All. Had a mediocre day at work: too many meetings where I was requested but not really required, a presentation for a VP from India (went well, but I still had better things to do), and less efficiency than I'd prefer. But my wife and son took me to my favorite fish place in town, where I had my now traditional Lobster Bisque and "Bayou Catfish" (very lightly breaded and baked, with spinach, Andouille Sausage, Shrimp, and some tomatoes, in a spicy Cajun sauce). Saw a friend as we were coming in & chatted with her, and the lovely waitress later told me my Macallan 12 was paid for by said friend. Capped off with a tiny bit of cake on the house, which I then donated to the great kitchen staff to finish for me. A really lovely night to fix the droll day.....!
  9. Enjoy! Very Happy Birthday!
  10. You said it Gene....he was one of my first entries into Jazz, and Take Five will always be one of my favorites. Have enjoyed a lot of his other work, but as the first thing I heard, it stands above. RIP, great man.....
  11. Went o a wake today, the sister of a friend with whom I used to work. Was moved to tears, meeting her family (she was one of three very close sisters) and watching a slide show of this once immensely intelligent, beautiful woman. I haven't been so touched by a stranger's death in a long time....she seemed so full of life and spirit, and died at a very young 52 due to cancer that had spread to the brain. Gave my wife and son an extra hug tonight....
  12. Congrats to CJ and Santa! Good stuff all
  13. Happy Birthday Gene!
  14. Wow.....well, here's to stability......heal well!
  15. Comcast charges for cable modem rental as well, I went out and bought my own, it pays for itself over time. But to do it all of a sudden is a bit sleazy....as far as I know Comcast has always charged for it.
  16. Happy Birthday Haj! Hope it's a great one!
  17. Purk, I traded in a cheap Chinese AKM-based DAC I got on eBay. EDIT: like this one, but even a bit cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Finished-2496-AK4396-CS8416-DAC-With-Transformer-case-/110767440205?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item19ca41014d Larry, offer ends tomorrow, see http://www.psaudio.c...hop/nuwave-dac/ .
  18. NuWave in the house, sounding pretty nice IMO. Not as purely neutral as the NAD M51 on first listen, but a nice mix of hi-fi goodies with musicality. I have owned a Cullen-mod'd DL3, this retains some of that house sound: big sounding, very slightly warm, but good details. Yet it seems to take it a step further, with some pinpoint imaging and more detail. I haven't heard the PWD Mk II, but had a brief listen to the PWD Mk I; and I think this sounds closer to that than to the DL3. Only a few hours so far, but very pleased. Only sour note: there is a problem when I have both balanced and SE connections plugged in. I set up SE to my Rega Brio-R amp, and balanced to my Spritzer-mod'd SRM-Xh. Even with the Stax amp off, the SE outputs are dimmed down to the point where one channel would barely play. I had to unplug the XLR's from the DAC, and all is well and great. Going to read the manual, and maybe ping PS Audio on that....would have liked to have both operative at once, but it's not the end of the world. In any case, with the trade-in (I traded a DAC that cost me all of $89 shipped, for a $300 credit) and cost of $695, I think this is a very good DAC. In the long run, I still will probably be happier with the M51.. But this is just real good stuff. Won't have a ton of time to listen over the next few, but hope to have a few more thoughts at the end of the weekend.
  19. My son actually showed me this one....
  20. Very Happy Birthday!
  21. Pictures Vicki? Nice to hear many good times were had, we're back from NY/NJ, good time there too. My father-in-law waited until literally the lunch before we were leaving to become his grumpy old man self. But all was good, and it's nice to be home with a night and day to spare before the reality of work.
  22. Happy Beerday!!!
  23. Ugh, feel better Haj! I'm down in NY & NJ over the last couple days, it's gorgeous here....

    Thanks Mike, just grabbed one!
  25. Happy Thanksgiving all! Thankful for many things including this place and all who habitually inhabit. Only sad that I can't make the entire dinner out of Twinkies....
