  1. You mean the adapter or have him drilled two headphones output on the front panel ? One for stax and the other for Koss?
  2. That I didn't know, thank you.....will search and hv a look.....just to make my life easier, is this recabling a DIY project ? I like Grado sound signature especially HF2. With stats, I'm looking for a HF2 sound signature with more clarity, impact and ofcourse detail or alternatively a 701 sound signature with more bass, detail, clarity and warm.....You reckon I can find it with stats ? My apology if my expectation is too much but again I dont have any stats rigs to audience
  3. Guys, settled.....Amp: Headamp KGSS, headphones : Koss ESP 950. Delivery for amp : Christmas. Price for the Koss is even crazier now at Amazon...... $594........ If I made a terrible mistake on the above setup, someone please kind enough to point out to me. Thanks !!!
  4. ya got it......stats. thanks......can't really get pure jazz grow on me and i know, smooth jazz is good for background music for airlines, commercial breaks, mall, casinos, brothel house but can't help it really......and trust me, you dont want me to mention the rest of my music or so called music collection if you despise smooth jazz nerdling - thanks for your advise too
  5. thanks sprit.....i will drop justin a pm then i will make up my mind......
  6. God of electro spoken already....... any advise for thy humble peasant who's looking to follow your footpath ?
  7. Another questions is would it be worth it to get a maxed GES ? Or better stick with the stock ? I'm thinking of going with premium parts upgrade - the one that costs $680
  8. Transport is laptop on foobar, source is either pico or stello da100. So this rig that i'm planning to build would be, say middle end electro rig at the best ? @grawk : dont get your drift. do you mean that smooth jazz will sound great with virtually any phones/setup ?
  9. Sorry, <1k for the phone itself. Music preferences jazz/smooth jazz, adult contemporary, 80-90's pop/rock, country, bossanova, new age.
  10. <1k.....preferably new as I'm not a type of person that can wait for the perfect phones to come up in used condition
  11. Guys, I'm back again and this time please don't slam me Where I live I cannot audition any electro system since no one I know have one. But the idea of this have been intriguing me and I come to an agreement with Woo for a GES for delivery in Christmas this year. Jack is just waiting for my green light. Now, I need advise from you guys (and mind you, I don't have any experience at all with electro outside from what I read), should I get the Koss EP950 or SR404 ? Or maybe any other choices for the phones ? Wanted an Omega but too dear for my taste. I would like to build a system that is pretty much near the top end so I wouldn't worry too much in upgrading. And this would be my only electro setup outside dynamic that I have now. Thank you all in advance......
  12. Today in HK I have a chance to audition 3 most commonly available DAC. DacMagic, PS Audio Digital Link III and Stello DA100. I listened through home audio (RCA) so impression might be different to headphone. First is DacMagic and I quickly come to my conclusion that it is a mediocre DAC (whats new ?), sound bright, thin and metallic......although quite good resolution and instrument separation. Come then PS Link and DA100, it is actually almost the same, excellent separation, warm, deep bass and good detail. But I finally decided to go with DA100 because I believe that it has more quality bass and this is my hearing, a tin ear hearing mind you. There is another DAC in store, Musical Fidelity X series but its beyond my budget so I dont bother trying it. I have yet to try the USB implementation so I cannot comment but I certainly hope that this DAC is an improvement over my current Pico.
  13. so i guess its a fail then ?
  14. Still looking for my perfect DAC......then stumbled to this headphones : Beyer DT48E.......everyone said its perfect for guitar, piano and vocal. And a pretty big part of my collection revolve around this genre (acoustic alchemy, jim brickman, jason mraz, susan wong, diana krall, david benoit, peter white, etc).....Guess what, I pull the trigger...... Someone here please console me (or flame me if you wish) that this purchase is not a fail. I'm an indecisive prick......and I hate myself........
  15. Been searching quite exhaustively for the past few days and most of the used DAC that I found which have a good reputation and fits my budget comes in 110V......also the DAC's that I was recommended upon and based from my search is 110V. My dilemma is that I traveled back and forth from US to Asia pretty frequently hence my opportunity to buy used DAC and take it back with me. The only DAC that fits my need but slightly out of budget (dont mind stretching bit more though - as always) is the Buffalo build by Rockhopper at HF but it's sold. It comes with USB, balanced and switchable voltage, build by a reputable builder and solid performer in DAC..... Anyway, I'm in no rush finding it and thank you for all the inputs of everyone in the forum. That includes you Edipisk
  16. @screamingoranges : Can I just ask you if the DAC is 230V ? I need 220-230V current. Thanks
  17. @screaming oranges - Thanks but already sold...... @tachikoma - my music collection is about 25gb at the moment and I'm afraid with the current economical pricing of 32 it wont bring much too far into my future @themonkey - heavy ? I wanted to buy used because I cant afford new and some of the used dac out there have some pretty good price. Moreover, I can wait......
  18. Ok folks...... i will take it to my consideration but most likely whatever DAC i'm going to buy, i'm going to buy used since i'm entering a different realm already which is pretty serious audio stuff. thanks
  19. One of the reason for me to upgrade DAC is to see what and how good are other DAC out there as to be honest the only DAC I have listened to extensively is my Pico and eventhough I have done a very brief audition like listening to 2-3 tracks (and those tracks are not my familiar tracks) on Benchmark and Lavry, it simply not enough to conclude the quality of these DAC. Although my impression is that Benchmark is a better DAC than Lavry in the overall presentation and sound signature. And also I see my path of upgrade is to go balance eventually hence my choice of balance DAC This thread has opened my horizon further about other possibilities and to be honest I started to doubt on whether I should upgrade further if my source is still a mere notebook - to quote what athotex have said above. Perhaps I should get a better source like CDP player before thinking further on upgrading other components ie. DAC, etc. But problems with CDP is that I have to play the disc one by one which I absolutely hated. I must admit that during the chat room a member have suggested Denon 2900 for around $200-250 used but till now I still couldnt find it on 230V. Am I being unreasonable to expect a better sonic quality if I stick with notebook as source even though I upgrade the DAC and go balance eventually? Is it a trade off on sound quality between the inconvenience of switching disc one by one on CDP compared to having 1000 songs on the notebook ?? Your thoughts folks ? Thank you
  20. Im about to made up my decision on usb-spdif converter. So far only found Teralink and this http://www.audiophileproducts.com/usbtospdif or this http://www.audiophileproducts.com/fireye2 which sounds very intriguing but can only do toslink but on the other hand, $97 and DAC as well......?? Wayyy too intriguing. Can anyone enlighten me which is supposedly better? I'm totally blind...... While searching for the converter and researching on USB implementation on audio, I bumped into Wavelength Audio Proton DAC. Anyone heard or maybe owned this ? Thanks
  21. Thanks Athotex......Will try looking for an alternatives, maybe I can present it here for further advise? Hope you guys dont mind in guiding me on making a right choice.......Thanks again
  22. Whatever suits you sir
  23. Sir, I was just trying to be polite and courteous. Is that something that is subject to infraction ?
  24. Ok, thanks for the enlightment
  25. That would mean 2 x shitty. CMIIW Indirectly you telling me to widen my options to a non-usb DAC ? And use usb - spdif converter ? Again, CMIIW....... @tkam - Sir, is the neko you're selling comes in worldwide voltage ? Thanks
