Still stuck in 1989 day, or week, or month, or whatever it was I just spun Lou Reed's New York.
-
In honor of 1989 day, Rolling Stones Steel Wheels. Certainly not a great Stones album, but quite a bit better than clunkers like Emotional Rescue. IMO of course..
-
Nice choice. I got into Ibrahim Ferrer by way of this album, and probably now listen to Ibrahim even more...

I'd like to hear more about how this DAC stacks up to others in its price range, from people who have compared a few and thus have a frame of reference...
-
And so what's your take on this one?
-
I used to listen to this one a lot, but haven't in years. Thanks for the reminder!

From the Mick Taylor era, when they were at the height of their powers and touring for nearly a year. Fantastic soundboard quality and about 3x better than any "official" live release....check out Taylor's Hendrixian leads on the 6 minute expanded version of Gimme Shelter. The extended blues jam on Midnight Rambler is another highlight. But its all good and essential for the Stones fan.

Nice session with mostly originals, including some by Wayne Shorter who is also part of the line-up.

Grilled (rare) skirt steak sliced against the grain, on a bed of mixed greens with home-made vinaigrette. Colloquially known as a "meat salad" in our home... easy to make, and very tasty!

I find their music useful for staying awake on the road. They don't get much play time at home...

On a different note, is there any love here for the Supersuckers? I just discovered these guys recently, but they have a nice body of work extending back 10-12 or more years, e.g.

I'm not much more than a dabbler in classical, but I do like some classical guitar recordings, e.g. And I do have quite a bit of Segovia. Christopher Parkening doesn't do much for me. I generally prefer solo guitar, but small groups is fine too. I haven't learned to appreciate orchestral/symphonic stuff. Are there any recordings in this genre you folks would suggest? Especially, recent ones?

That sounds really, REALLY tasty. Also like it was probably a cardiovascular nightmare..

I was just shy of 5 yrs. Yep I'm 51 even though I sometimes post immature pictures. Nice session BTW, one of my faves by Horace. Hard to choose just one, but if I had to it would be Cape Verdean Blues with the line-up expanded to include J.J. Johnson on trombone..

OK DC no more pics like that one, sorry if you didn't find it entertaining. I obviously misinterpreted "weird ass shit". Voltron: You think you know me well enough to call me a "failure" on the basis of two posts? You don't, but the fact that you think you do and feel entitled to pass judgment is intriguing. How old are you? Anyway, I'm genuinely sorry if I walked on toes here. All I can say it that I did read the "welcome" PM. I've lurked and surfed around here for awhile. People have posted a huge range of different music in this thread, just trying to add something constructive to that. And I actually searched the FAQs for "inappropriate" before posting the pic. Based on the kind of humor I thought I detected here, I concluded it would be received in the spirit it was posted. As a joke. Guess not, I stand corrected... Back on topic, here's an obscure but excellent later period Blakey & JM session, if anyone digs this sort of thing- band includes Woody Shaw:

Best thing I've eaten recently: an entire boletus edulis mushroom that I found recently while out collecting morels. Also known as King Bolete, porcini (Italy), cepe (France) and probably some other names, boletus edulis (for those of you who aren't mushroom geeks) is probably the most highly prized edible mushroom in the world. They are not easy to find in good shape- various kinds of bugs, worms and wildlife think they are pretty great too. But we had an usually extended wet spring in Central Oregon and I managed to find about 5 very nice specimens on two separate outings in the last couple of weeks. I had intended to just eat a little bit of it- fried in butter, garlic, salt and pepper, but in the end consumed the whole thing, in several batches of fried strips. I just couldn't stop. These are large mushrooms folks- the specimen I devoured was probably at least a pound; 6" high and probably 7" across the top of the cap. It was so incredibly delicious- almost like a great steak. OK, OK so I had the munchies and it was about midnight, it was STILL really really tasty!

Not sure if that refers to my recent music selections...I can say that African Scream Contest isn't quite what the title implies- there are some James Brownian screams here and there but that's about it.. Taking a broader view of "weird-ass shit" I could start submitting stuff like this, at the risk of wearing out my welcome before I even have my coat off

FNG (Fucken New Guy) here. Hope you folks don't mind me posting- I did read the warning for new registrees advising us to just lurk for awhile. I've been getting into some recent reissues of 70's Afro-Jazz/Funk, from a fertile period of music development there as they incorporated US influences such as James Brown. E.g: And:
