  1. Colin ... don't be dissing the Hafler gear. I built a hafler DH101 pre and DH200 amp back in the day from kit, and they were great for many years. 'Grats on the new speakers. Now, go and figure out what you need for room treatment. Room treatment/acoustics are just as important as any piece of gear you have. Think of it as another component that should be as good as or better than your amp/pre/player/ .... whatever. Room treatment matters ...
  2. TeeHee, indeed, and, yes, feeling good, thanks for noticing. Me=soft and fuzzy/world is good/love to all. What will tomorrow bring?
  3. Some more Canon 35 1.4 L shots, but these are casual. May seem familiar to many, because they are from Canjam I (Ft Lauderdale 2008) bathtub series ... grawk ... Steve from NY .. Tyll ... stevieo (no flash) ... boomana ... me ...
  4. ^^^ ok, I know that both (shovel and cut) are lethal, especially at the hand of the master, but what is the proper order? Me? i'd do shovel, then slice and dice. But I'm very provincial and unsophisticated. What is the proper protocol? /clueless in sarasota ...
  5. Shelly ... Ice is nice. But not as nice as you.
  6. So much good imbibing going on tonight ... hard to keep track ... - I already posted about Mike (A-Sr's amazing feats .. - Al with a green flash ... save one for me, buddy - Mike with the lagavulin - Marc with the Plymoouh Gin ... sniff, brings a tear to me old eye. and the night is young yet ... I'm so happy and proud, (and a bit drunk?) Ask me=no, Ask Becky=yes, 2 hours ago.
  7. hmmmmm, Jon L ... I think you are coming off as a bit of a lens snob here (and I'm sure in real life you are not that). The Canon 35 1.4 L is an amazing lens when coupled with the right body (Canon FF) and scenes. It was neither designed nor intended to shoot directly at a high power light source. Ah, but when used as intended ... low light, sunrise/sunset, street photography, etc, there is not much that will be its equal. It was my favorite lens when I shot with my Canon 5D. Herewith are some samples ... A very tame bird ... No flash, iso 1600, wide open Heavily cropped ... 1/100 @ f/2.5
  8. And people wonder why we love you. pfffft, self evident. I rest my case.
  9. ^^^ Nice, Jacob. Pity the fool who thinks the stropped blade isn't sharp.

    Deals

Some good refurb camera deals @ dealmac ... Canon 40D with Canon 28-135 for $629. direct from Canon. Nikon D90 body for $648., plus other Nikon bodies - D5000, D7000, D300, D700, etc The Canon 40D with 28-135 is a terrific deal. http://dealmac.com/
  11. Didn't Tyll show us this at CanJam 2009 in LA?
  12. ^^^^ 3rd this. Glossy only sucks in bright sun, but any screen will, so no loss. As Jacob said, took a few days to adapt, but then never looked back or regretted. I think the premium for glossy isn't because it's "better", but because it costs Apple more because of the pita factor once they standardized on glossy.
  13. Happy Birthday, Mike! I'll hoist a couple in your honor tonight. May the day and comng year be great.
  14. mmmmm, Crystal Head ... even better in red.
  15. She's a sweetie, posty.
  16. Mike ... you look good on the hill. Don't break a leg. Dan ... break a leg on the job search.
  17. stevieo! Where you been, man? Thanks for dropping by. So you like the Egg, huh?
  18. Happy Birthday, Grahame, old chap! Pip, pip, enjoy the day, and all that ...
  19. Who knows, indeed? Looks like you stuck with beer last night, unless Dinny's Mai Tai experiment jolted your cocktail senses into action (I hope not). Keep swinging, baby.
  20. ^^^ Sure ... I-90, except for the last jog North on I-95.
  21. ^^^^^ Just make sure i am awake when you do this. Are you listening, Peter?
  22. Dan ... note that you can use many legacy lenses from Minolta, Nikon, Canon, Leica, etc, etc with the Nex using appropriate adapters, so if you have any good Minolta glass, you may want to hold onto it. Manual focus only, but auto exposure in aperture priority mode. If using Sony/Minolta autofocus lenses, will autofocus too, but that adapter is pricey ($195 vs $25-50 for others).
  23. Dan ... yes, 35mm full frame equivalent is 27 - 83mm for the 18-55 on the Nex (1.5 crop factor for APS C sensor). I just shot a couple of sequences at 18, 28, 35, and 55mm from the 18-55 on the Nex 5 for you. That is like 27, 42, 52, and 82 on a ff. Note that there is nothing artistic or interesting - shot in terrible mid day sun just outside my place. All are @ iso 200, f/16, with shutters from 1/125 - 1/320. Posted up on PhotoBucket here:
  24. Happy Birthday ... hope it was a great one.
  25. Glad you got that over with, Al (picture Mike, JP, and me applauding). Care to rejoin the purists with just spirits and strong beer again?
