  1. Latest Tape Project release. Flirting with Twilight Kurt Elling Killer!
  2. Shelly, You should find your local Guitar Center and spend a little time auditioning some nearfields. Try and go during the week when it's not a zoo and get a sales guy to run through the speakers in your price range. It's kinda tough to be objective when you listen to a bunch so once you've whittled it down to a couple, go back in a week or so and listen to just those. Just be aware that those listening rooms are heavily treated so the bass in particular is going to be tighter than it'll sound in a non treated room. Their prices are what is generally considered normal street price but if you find a authorized dealer with a lower price, you can usually get them there for that price. It's nice to have a brick and mortar that will cover any warranty issues you might have (and that's always been the question with Adam's).
  3. That looks awesome Gene! Enjoy that island vibe.
  4. shame on you Matt! Just that fact that it's directed by Scorsese should clue you in that it's something special. This is terrible news indeed. I have a feeling that Levon has done and seen enough to fill a half dozen full lives.
  5. Wow,.. another amazing race! I'll save my detailed comments for a few days while others get a chance to watch it but man,.. this is looking like a season to remember!
  6. Wow,.. bummer! Almost makes me wish I hadn't stopped by here today!
  7. Hey Tyler, Have a great day buddy!
  8. Thanks Ari,.. not that I was really planning to buy the record but good to know! BTW Good ta hear from you!
  9. I can see the race to be the first one to get their turntable running at 3rpm exactly will be brutal! Many lives will be lost. I have an old Denon DD table with a good bit of speed adjustment. I would think that using a Variac on a table like that should work?
  10. Gotta love a show that includes a "humping/moaning tutorial"! I totally enjoyed the opener. If you haven't watched it, the short "extras" on the locations is pretty cool too.
  11. Hah,.. I just watched tonight's episode of "The Mentalist" and Christopher Judge was in the cast! I'm positive that he mumbled under his breath,.. "Happy Birthday Doug! " (or maybe it was, "I need to get back to work") Enjoy your special day lad!
  12. Wow, Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo,.. haven't thought about them for a looooong time (got a 10" of "only a Man" around here somewhere). I never get around to posting here since I always get sidetracked by stuff like that. I'm pretty stoked to say; The Shins Port of Morrow on reel to reel! http://www.myplaydirect.com/the-shins/port-of-morrow-reel-to-reel-digital-album/details/26644502
  13. Hey Ken, glad to see you're up and running! I also use the DiscDoctor solution. Haven't really tried all the current contenders though since I bought a huge supply a decade or two ago and I've hardly made a dent in it. For me, rinsing off the cleaner is the key to getting really quiet surfaces (I always rinse twice). Of course, I'm pretty tolerant of tiny tics if I love the music.
  14. Seeing BlessingX's post over on the ",..listening to" of "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" reminded me that I meant to post a link to the Byrne/Eno site where you can download the multitrack session for a couple of the cuts from that album (which I just plain wore out when it was first released). So, if you have a DAW/Editing software with multitrack capabilities, check it out. It's too much fun to play around with the tracks and create your own mix of "Help Me Someone" or "My Secret Life". Once you've downloaded all 24 tracks of "Help Me,.." , try de-constructing it by soloing (to hear the single track alone) then muting that track. Another fun thing, I kinda like to start by soloing the weird stuff (like the rooks) and gradually adding tracks with the rhythm tracks last. Fun, fun fun. http://bush-of-ghosts.com/remix/bush_of_ghosts.htm
  15. If you're there long enough Mike, check out the spot that Sherwood turned us onto; http://bikerjimsdogs.com/ Killer hot dogs and fries! I totally loved the Beef Wellington Dog I had but I wish I coulda gone back and tried the whole menu.
  16. Good for Claire! Hope you guys all feel better. I'm getting over cold #2 for the season and I'm praying that the flu doesn't pay me a visit.
  17. Actually, I hardly ever listen to digital and prefer vinyl and tape by a fair margin for most of what I usually listen to. My pals in the industry (hi end audio and recording/mastering) feel the same way. I have to admit (grudgingly) that the best digital I've heard is getting pretty darn close though! ( Pacific Microsonics Model 2, Pyramix software playing master files). When I'm being lazy or multitasking, I put on an SACD or listen to hi rez files. But for the most part, I don't feel like a little swipe of a record brush or cleaning my tape heads is too much to ask for considering the lifetime of work and dedication it takes to produce the music.
  18. Here's a Wired article regarding the subject; http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/02/why-neil-young-hates-mp3-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/ One cool link in the article is a link to George Harrison's site where you can download a 24/96 file of "All Things Must Pass".
  19. Yup,.. he's a cute little bugger! Congrats Ryan!
  20. Happy B day Ed,.. you gadget whore!
  21. Excellent news! Of course, this'll be the week that your neighbor decides to take up the trumpet when you'd die to be able to stick in a pair of IEM's!
  22. That silver Lundahl sounds interesting. I use Stevens and Billington Ltd 103 transformers (copper windings) and I'm very happy with them. I got them before the price went sky high (around $1500 a pair now! I paid about $500 ten years ago). Even back then, the 103 with silver windings was expensive. Now their positively insane!
  23. Craig Uthus told me that Tom Reichenbach, the son of Cinemag's founder Ed, passed away. I'm sure that has put a crimp on the production of less profitable products for the immediate future. The question of whether Cinemag will continue to survive is certainly up in the air for now.
  24. Ha! See I was right,.. dick head! Always a pleasure to see Becky and her tasty treats.
  25. Good deal Dan! Just wanta say that it was super cool to share a table with Frank and Mikey! And it's always great to see Al, Graham, Steve (ASR), Peter and other HC faithful. Thanks for the tastes of some fine whiskey. I know Christen (CeeTee) thought that was a great idea too.
