Well, I'm with Alonso all the way. I still see Ferrari making iffy strategic decisions and I hope it doesn't end up like Abu Dhabi a few years back! I can't remember ever seeing a major team make mental mistakes that have such huge effects. I have to agree that Hamilton has come a long way and Button is doing exactly how I figured. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Louis started winning race after race in the second half of the season but I doubt it. Red Bull is experiencing one of those slumps that all teams face. It's a real endorsement of the team that they're stayed on top so long. Does Vettel need a superior ride to win? Is Webber driving way over his head? I think if I had to pick a sympathetic fav, it would be the Aussie. When he was struggling just to finish in the points (pre Red Bull) he represented the drivers with the FIA looking out for their interests and pushing for better safety and common sense in rule changes. The other drivers have always shown that they respect him. It could be Mark's last, best chance to win a championship. Is he is driving above his talent? Isn't that what it's all about. Overcoming physics with character!

Hey Mikey,.. That waveform doesn't look all that bad to me. That looks like at least DR 8 (dynamic range). Really squashed stuff these days is more like DR 4-6 for pop. It's pretty hard to judge the crest factor (rms to peak) without a DR meter. But when it comes down to it,..as the old recording engineers saying goes,.. listen with your ears not your eyes.

Glad you liked those Win amps too Ric. I've never heard an 833 amp I didn't love. But, seeing that they are both in the $100k neighborhood, it could be the attention to detail and the other trappings of all out designs. I can see doing some 'sparimentin' with a pair of 833's one of these days. I listened to another high voltage amp that wasn't too bad. A push pull 845 with another 845 for the driver from Triode. Didn't knock me out like the Win 833 though. BTW those speakers they were using are from Florence Audio. Never heard of um and couldn't find anything from a bit of web searching. It looks like they were the same speakers that they used at RMAF in 2010 so they could be a "pair of a kind" that are owned by someone in the company or sum-thin.

I guess I shoulda looked for this thread since I planned on going. As it turned out, I ran into blessingx a couple of times which was cool. There were a few really great sounding rooms (Bob Hodas Acoustic Analysis, Win Analog, the Magico room with the smaller monitors, deHaviland room with Sonist speakers) but there were also some truly dreadful sounding ones this year as well. I attended a seminar with the guys from Reference Recording and my pal Paul Stubblebine. It was pretty interesting but a few hitches in the logistics made it much longer than it should have been. Overall, I had a great time. Most of the music that was playing was fantastic (I only had to walk out on one room which was playing one of those useless drum demos) and I learned a thing or two.

If wishes were fishes,.. I know this is a wild ass shot in the dark, but a few years back some engineers at the old Blackburn Mullard plant started producing a new plannar design 12ax7 equivalent under the MicroTech (sp) label. I bought a few of them. And while they weren't as dimensional as the Raytheon 5751 windmill getters that I love in many applications, they are amazingly transparent and found a permanent home in the voltage stage of my phono stage. To make a long story short, not long after they began to sell these, the CRT (their main products) demand from China dried up and MicroTech went belly up and all their assets were sold at auction. I was bummed! Myself and several other guys who'd tried this tube could only hope that some rich audio aware person would buy the design and tooling and start production again. The pictures of the tube that Samsung is using looks similar but without a 360, I couldn't be sure. But, the timing is right (plenty of time to buy, move and produce the assembly line). Wishful thinking probably!

I'm with jp regarding the amp. I would love to know what tubes are being used and who is supplying them though. If this amp gets any traction at all, some lucky tube manufacturer is going to have to build a new plant!
