  1. Happy B day Ari! (just missed this one by a couple of hours PST) Have a great weekend.
  2. Happy B day Shelly! ,.. and many more!
  3. Wow, Ray certainly lived a long and fruitful life! There are so many of his films that are etched into my mind that I wouldn't know where to start to name a favorite. RIP Ray!
  4. Thanks you guys. Your messages are a real comfort. When all was said and done, I didn't hit the sack until 6:30 am. I think it'll take a little while to totally sink in. Kubler -Ross, here I come!
  5. My room mate and good friend Jim died last night. I performed CPR after discovering him in bed non responsive and not breathing. When the first responders arrived, they pronounced him dead. Won't know the cause until the coroner gets a look at him (probably related to his diabetes). Very sad day around here with his son and daughter very broken up about it. Waiting for the funeral home to pick up his body. Jim was universally loved and will be sorely missed (even though I made a "sport" of complaining about his ways).
  6. Good on you Steve! I still think that deep down, most folks would like to be good. Maybe what's changed is what people think "good" is? Some of my friends won't stop to help anyone particularly when their kids are onboard. So what does that teach the kids?
  7. Yup, great race! It seems to me that the championship could be won by any of the top 3 or 4 teams. And talk about a team suddenly "out of whack"! Could Vettel's selfishness ruin an entire season? It was cool to see Alonzo's "girl friend" in the paddock. What a babe! (I guess that's what a model needs to be though huh?) I'd love to see Hamilton's post race interview in slow mo'. I could swear that Alonzo was chasing Dasha around the paddock behind Lewis! Ah,.. the rewards of victory! http://www.dashakapustina.es/ Now, Pirelli's tire choices are going to make or break Bahrain!
  8. Just awful! My heart goes out to those who were hurt and their friends and families.
  9. That's awesome Shelly!
  10. Here's hoping that things go a little smoother for all involved! Funny, every year Sepang always amazes me with it's enormous scale. Too bad it's so far away. I'd love to see it in person.

    RIP Jonathan Winters

Bummer! Always loved that guy. Talk about original!
  12. What a great time! A million thanks to Al and Claire for letting me tag along. The new SF Jazz Center is awesome and just the right size for jazz! It should shame a lot of other cities to build their own.
  13. Kinda late to this thread (just noticed it). I've had a pair of BM5 mkll for about a year and a half now. I bought them primarily to mix with. I have them on my desktop on isoAcoustics stands (which I modified to be just the right height). I guess I'm pretty happy with them but I use them more as tools and rarely for pleasure. As with most ported designs, the bass is really nice until it gets to the cutoff point (around 50Hz). Then the response drops off more quickly than with other cabinet designs. I supplement the bottom octave by listening to a few passes with my HD800's. During normal listening, I forget that I'm missing some of that bottom end and have to remind myself to check it with other transducers. A sub would be nice but I plan to save my money and get a pair of Klein and Hummel (sp?) 310's in a few years. I use them with either the monitor outs of my MH ULN-2 or with adapter cables from my Zana Deux (pin 1 shorted to pin 3). Overall, they are nice speakers to live with in the long run and I'm very pleased with the sound per size ratio. Guitar Center usually stocks them and you should be able to give them a listen there.
  14. Wow! What a rash of ailments! Hope you and yours all feel better soon. Ric,.. you're a brave man! Maybe it's the pictures amplifying the ailment, but I woulda freaked! I guess it's all part of being a parent though? And Yikes aardvark! You've gotta rash on your wall,.. and it's growing like mad! I'm no expert, but that looks like more than enough first reflection wall treatment (don't forget that the floor and ceiling are equal offenders for early reflections). You might wanta concentrate on back and front walls. Are you using some kinda mic/interface/software analysis?
  15. Get well soon Larry! And congrats on your new job Lloyd!
  16. Happy B Day Doug! Have a few pints on me. I'll repay you the next time I see you!
  17. I agree Mikey. Hamilton has really matured as a man before our very eyes. I have to admit that I wasn't his biggest fan at first. In retrospect, being an Alonzo fan, I was biased when they were both at McLaren. As it turned out, that was probably for the best as Alonzo moved to Ferrari. Rosberg seems like the kinda guy that needs a little stroking from time to time. Probably the result of growing up in the shadow of a world champion father. I aways liked Nico. Even though he may not be one of the very best drivers, he does exemplify the "Grand Prix" image,.. living in Monaco and always happy to be a spokes person for the FIA.
  18. The impression I got from the post race interview with Christian Horner was, when the race was decided to be "in hand", the team decided it was time to leave the race order as it was (Webber 1st) and turn back their pace to one that will preserve the tires and stress the engines (and team) less. Webber said that he had complied with the teams wishes and slowed down but that Vettel shot past him once he did. In other words, Webber complied with the orders and Vettel didn't. I guess all this inter team stuff will get sorted behind the scenes. I did get the impression that many of the drivers seemed to have some kind of attitude going into this race. Maybe it was the heat? The rest is the ups and downs of racing. It's just shocking to see it all happen in one race!
  19. A wild and woolly race for sure! Pretty wacky decision by Alonzo but, it's not always so clear cut from the drivers seat (I'm thinking that he had no idea how bad the wing was damaged). Of course, it could've all been different if he'd avoided running into the back of the Red Bull in the first place! I'm sure he was kicking himself after that mistake. I gotta kick out of Hamilton's little visit with his old pals in the pits. And just when things were looking so great for Force India,.. those guys must've been crying in their after race drinks! And sending a car out with a miss matched set,.. never seen that before! Everybody came close to running out of tires. If the rain had continued, they probably would've run out of intermediates and been forced to the full wets. The longest race of the year and no chance of an extra set! Seems kinda dangerous to me. And that was before the team issues. Webber looked like he could've eaten nails! Probably the last driver I'd want as an enemy!
  20. Sounds like a hoot Al! Unfortunately, all my "loud and politically incorrect" relatives have moved on to greener fields.
  21. I got to know "Tiny Desk Concerts" here so I thought some of you guys might enjoy this. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323495104578314663257286662.html
  22. Okay Mikey. Great opener and it was a singular pleasure to see Kimi genuinely happy! Man,.. but those tires! But like they said in the post race, they'll get it sorted out in a few races. It was great to see that Alonso kept Seb at bay and it was very cool to see everyone avoid any crazy wrecks. Poor Webber! His start woes continue. Probably the guy that really hated seeing "launch control" banned. The rookies looked pretty good. And Force India is really keeping up their momentum from last season. And talk about looking good,.. the camera man sure found some beauties hanging around the paddocks! I must've muttered "I'm in love" 3 or 4 times during the weekend!
  23. Been there,.. on both counts!
  24. Hope everybody gets better too! Things sure seem to happen in waves? Dan, what a great way to start your day! Not only are you scalded, covered in coffee stains, need to clean up what must be one hell of a mess and replace your press, but you have to do it without your coffee fix!
  25. Happy belated from me too! Hope you had a grand day!
