Wild and wooly just doesn't seem to cover it! I think it was 1986 when catastrophic tire failures decided the championship in Australia. I can't quite remember all the details but IIRC, Mansell had the championship in hand until a rear tire flew apart on the last lap. I think I still have a VHS of that race laying around here somewhere. Man, is Pirelli on the hot seat or what? They are very lucky that none of the drivers were hurt. But what a race from so many of the drivers! Of course, Webber and Alonzo were spectacular but Massa and Hamilton cut through the pack like nobodies business, and Lewis could have made the podium with a little luck. And even though I'm pissed that Pirelli and the FIA could let this sort of thing happen (not allowing in season testing with current cars is insane!), this is the kind of race that really shows what the drivers and teams are made of and makes me proud to call myself an F1 fan!

Wow,.. Unreal Mike! Even around silicon valley with all the new money, seeing a McLaren on the road is rare.

Fantastic news Steve! Great to see you land on your feet!

Still doesn't look like a lot of fun! I may be replacing some stained linoleum in the future. The joys of home ownership!

Great race in Montreal. Although Vettel/Redbull clearly had enough pace so it became a cakewalk for him, I loved all the hard racing that went on behind him. Massa in particular should be very proud of the effort he put out and in won't be long before Force India can be considered one the the top teams. I can't help but feel for Button. I guess that's racing though. And those folks that say that all it takes is money should take a look at McLaren's slide from the top this year to see how making the wrong decisions in the off season can ruin a season. I don't see how Lotus can afford to keep Grojean much longer. He seemed to be taking it easy early in the season but wasn't scoring many points. Now he's back in the thick of things but now he's back in the thick of things. I was glad to see Bottas show a little of what he could do. The Williams is just too damn slow though. Don't know if you guys saw that one of the track workers died after the race. Got run over by one of the cranes while clearing a stranded Sauber it looks like. Tragic for a volunteer (usually members of the local car clubs)!

Love "Enigma,..". Speaking of MTT (Tilson Thomas), any of my fellow Bay Area HC's going to hear "Rite,.." later this month? I totally spaced it and now tickets are $$$!

Mikey, if you get a chance to see Porter live, it's well worth it. Saw him last year. Didn't know him from Adam but left being a big fan.

Yeah,.. watched it last night and was curious what all the hu-bub was about? Yikes! Of course after Ned's untimely demise, I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.

Yup,.. That season opener did not disappoint!

Thanks to Steve's (ironbut) tremendous help in getting my Ice amp up and running this album sounds frickin' awesome! You can't imagine how cool it is to hear that Greg!

Totally missed the news. Glad ta hear you didn't tip over Ken! After the Loma Prieta quake (ha ha,.. almost typed quack), I helped some friends up in the mountains cleaning up their mess (they were about 5 miles from the epicenter). It was an old house and the toilet hoped off the floor (water and all) and into the tub. A buddy that was there noted what a convenient set up that was!

Nate,.. good to hear your pain has subsided! (pain bad!) Pass that sucker and flush it down.

Bummer! the Doors were one of the bands I really thought a lot of when I was in high school. Somewhere in Georgia is (or might still be) a desk with the lyrics to "The End" scratched into it's top. RIP Ray!

Sometimes when I'm daydreaming I browse around for amazing recording studios. Today I made a detour to a film production studio in Poland called Alvernia. It's kind of in the "holy shit" category. Be sure and take the "virtual tour" where you can get a 360 view of the place. http://www.alvernia.com/music-scoring-studio

I guess I shoulda said "For,..". The 2012 Monterey Jazz Festival was a treat for Potter lovers. He played with several groups over the weekend and I was able to records a couple of the bands. I've put up 7 new 24/48 files on my SoundCloud account from the festival and 6 have Potter doing his thing. The first group is the Metheny Unit Band and the second cut has Pat using the Orchestron (killer automated multi instrument partially controlled by air pressure which you can hear swooshing in the background). The second group is the Monterey Festival on Tour which features Christian McBride-bass, Benny Green-piano, Potter, Ambrose Akinmusire-trumpet, and Lewis Nash on Drums (Dee Dee Bridgewater is also part of the group but the files I uploaded don't include her). Here's the link; http://soundcloud.com/ironbut28/p-metheny-c-potter

I was so happy to see Ferrari jump the boat and run their own race. I guess it goes hand and hand with having a car with enough pace. But ever since Abu Dhabi 2010, I thought that they were making questionable decisions (but what do I know?). Really amazing how Mercedes went down the charts because of poor tire management/design. I can't see them replacing Ross Brawn though. Just goes to show how much things changed in F1. Alonzo did his usual great job especially at the start. I think he takes so many chances during those things that he may be more understanding when things go sideways. Massa did a great job as well. He looked so happy up on the podium (was that his wife and little boy they kept showing?). I love the fact that Kimi has so many fans. I wonder if he still parties it up like he used to. Off to the French coast. Even though Monaco can be kind of boring sometimes (seems like qualifying and pit work really determines the race results), I love the sight and sound of those rocket ships flying down the tubes of a tight street circuit! Don't forget that practice is a day early.

Back to Europe and another exciting race! I'll wait till after this evening's "encore" presentation to get into details but if you missed the live broadcast, it was a real eye opener!
