You probably seen "Desperate Man Blues" on PBS or IMF but it's a great one; http://www.dust-digital.com/dmb-dvd/ For those interested in recording studios and the early engineers, "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music" is amazing! If you can't find it online, I have the DVD and I'd be willing to lend it out. There was also a BBC production that followed Sir George Martin around the world searching for the roots of music which was also called "The Language of Music". I've only seen one of those but I'd love to find the rest.

I just found out it's been added to Netflix.
  5. Sorry to hear Mikey. 51 is way too young!
  6. Happy B Day Ryan. (late as usual!)
  7. I use Clipconverter. It's pretty convenient since it has an "add on" for firefox, chrome and a bunch of other browsers. The icon just shows up below the video window. The decktop version has problems with OsX so I don't use that. Just find the add on that works for you and install it in your browser. Supposedly, you should be able to download the original file size (ie. no compression). I'm learning sound design so I'm picking up some of this video stuff. http://www.clipconverter.cc/
  8. Awesome Wayne! Downloading now!

    Revisiting Treme'

I really loved this show but I was kinda glad that they didn't drag in out till they ran out of decent ideas. But, comcast is showing all the episodes on demand and I'm starting to watch the whole shebang over again. I have to admit that I'm shocked that the much hated comcast is doing something that I like.

Tomorrow night (here in Nor Cal) KQED will air an Independent Lens that looks like it should be killer. Check out the trailer. http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/tv-schedule/
  11. Good luck Steve. I'm sure your mom feels lucky to have you back!
  12. Hey Gang, I just put up a few 2013 Monterey Jazz Festival recordings I made on my SoundCloud page. This time, they're all 16/44.1 so if you should decide to download any, it's way quicker. Here's the artists in order; Diana Krall David Sanborn (yeah, a little lite at the beginning) Gregory Porter Orin Evans Trio Wayne Shorter Quintet Prism (20 min worth) http://soundcloud.com/ironbut28/krall
  13. Some of you folks know that I'm a fan of early recordings. One of the attractions for me is the combination of music, scholarship and cultural anthropology. Here's an article (the name just doesn't do it justice IMHO) from the NY Times Magazine that has spurred some amazing threads amongst collectors. A little warning, this is much longer than your average article but if you're interested in this kind of stuff, the time is well spent. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/13/magazine/blues.html
  14. Ooh! Thanks for the reminder Brent! I'll make a little visit to Amoeba and Streetlight.
  15. The new software will run on Windows (not sure which ones). As far as the bus powering, I hadn't read that (and there's a million rumors out there so I'll just wait till the release). Anyway, if you're doing serious recording, you don't want to be running off of bus power anyway (my ULN-2 just barely runs on bus power). If you're doing "informal" recording, a hand held flash recorder is fine for most folks. However you cut it, it's kind of a waste of time debating possible configurations of something that's "soon to be released" IMHO.
  16. Man,.. A hell of a race! Good for all the mid-field teams and the rookies are still doing fantastic!
  17. Happy B Day!
  18. Happy B Day Doug! Hope you had a great day.
  19. Don't know if any of you Metric Halo fans have heard, but BJ and the gang have some pretty wild upgrades coming around in the near future. Large numbers of tracks with super low latency on USB2? I don't think it's worth speculating until the units appear (but that hasn't stopped anyone yet!). These upgrades will be available to "every unit" MH has produced which means that the ULN-2 I bought used in 2008 can be upgraded! Here's the GearSlutz thread; http://www.gearslutz.com/board/new-product-alert/916058-new-metric-halo-developments-part-2-a.html
  20. I kinda like the idea that (cue Movie trailer voice) ; in a world where even the NSA can't seem to keep their damn mouths shut,.. that Secrets would become the rarest commodities of all. Of course their worth will depend on other's interest in what is being kept secret. But I could see Secrets cash value going up and down just like luxury real estate or collectibles.
  21. I confess that the subject is to grab folks attention but the Clan is truly hoping this will happen. Very interesting idea. Kind of a cross between music and performance art? Whatever it is, it's new! http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2014/03/26/why-wu-tang-will-release-just-one-copy-of-its-secret-album/
  22. Yeah, I actually have a few of the Tocos switches in my parts bin. They have the glossy handles. Looks like the AR has the matte finish like my preamp does.
  23. My Convergent Audio Tech. preamp has those long handle switches too. Unfortunately, I think that some of the manufacturers have stopped making the really long ones (silver contact). So matching existing switches may be tough. On the fortunate side, they aren't that expensive and usually just have a couple of wires connected so replacing both wouldn't be that much more. Bonnie, those are some crazy looking beans!
  24. Unless you happen to live next door to AR and your preamp is still under warranty, they'll probably direct you to an authorized repair guy near you. For something as straightforward as this, I suggest you just check for a local guy with good reviews and just contact him directly.
  25. Wow,.. Great stuff Mikey!
