  1. I've always had a bit of an issue with the placement of LaFaro's bass but I've always put it off as being picky since this is an otherwise, perfect jazz trio recording. I listened to it on my studio system which has okay room acoustics (with some bass treatments and eq) and the bass doesn't stand out as much as my main speaker system. On my main system the bass is similar to what you describe. That room does have issues with peaks in the 60 and 120Hz ranges which would account for the booming, forward nature of the bass. It's made worse (I'm guessing) by the fact that the bass is hard panned to the boomy side of the room. I suggest you try reversing the channels to see if that makes a difference or try summing the channels to mono in your ULN-2.
  2. Hey Marc, I'm not sure what you have in mind but I do have that same pressing of Waltz and the Tape Project's master tape dub that has kept that lp in it's sleeve. So,.. I'm game.
  3. IMHO Microsoft is starting to get it's act together at least for some professional users. I'm all about the software and I have way too much money and study invested in CoreAudio to change right now but,.. The upcoming Surface Studio sure is a nice looking machine! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/surface-studio/overview
  4. Mexico City was another exciting race. I was bummed that it had to end but Mexico should be very proud to have put on such a world class show for a second year. I'm glad to see the two point leaders playing nice(r) with each other too. In a sport where so many have died, I really hope that most of the bickering is for the camera's benefit.
  5. I know a couple of people that have been waiting for this one. For folks who use the function keys all the time (many Digital Audio Workstations like Pro Tools, Reaper etc use them quite a bit) the touchbar is a big deal. Some people are thinking about replacing their Mac Pro's (pre 2013) with the new MacBook. I hear some whining about the loss of firewire but a couple of adapters solves that easily. We'll see once the early adopters give it a go. Me, I'm still content with my 2012 6 core Mac Pro (I have a 2012 Macbook Pro that doesn't see a lot of use). I would love to have Thunderbolt connections but I've added a USB-3 PCIe card for faster connections. I do hope they update the Trash Can.
  6. Please pardon my F1 loving brothers and sisters. We all think that getting to the first turn is huge! Very entertaining race indeed! Mexico City should be fun too.
  7. Happy Birthday Marc! And thanks for your "listening to,.." posts. I can't tell you how often those have inspired me.
  8. Very cool idea! I've seen some pet shops using what looks like shredded newspaper for bedding. You might want to ask someplace like an animal shelter what they suggest.
  9. Happy Birthday Peter! Here's hoping it was full of strange sights and noises!
  10. No problem Antonio! BTW, I love your license!
  11. For something a little different; "Food For Thought" from the Library of Congress's Recorded Sound Research Center, the National Press Club Luncheon speeches. I've just begun to scratch the surface here but these are from the days when a great speech was just about the best entertainment you could ask for and these curated speeches are fantastic. So, if you're as sick of hearing about the election as I am (already sent in my ballot), give these a listen. Don't miss the Hitchcock! http://www.loc.gov/rr/record/pressclub/
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Happy Birthday Carl! Have a fantastic day-week-month (why not?)!
  14. Happy Birthday Peter! Hope you have an awesome day!
  15. Happy Birthday Queen Vicki! I miss you.
  16. I believe that EAR worked on this concept and conceded to just a magnetic drive. Very cool video though.
  17. So much of Laurie Anderson's genius is as a performance artist. That being,.. I suggest doing some long winded trolling on YouTube.
  18. Cliff Notes;
  19. I'd never heard of this double lp until I heard about it during a discussion of "multisided records". On side 4 there are 3 grooves. Anderson, Burroughs and Giorno each perform a piece on their own groove. So side 4 is about 5 minutes long,.. three times. Still haven't finished listening to it but for the most part, it's more of an art recording than music.
  20. Listening to the Laurie Anderson, Wm. S. Burroughs and John Giorno lp's " You're the Guy I Want to Share My Money With". Bought it on the 'bay from a seller in Santa Cruz. For folks who don't know, Santa Cruz is a 25 minute drive from my house. Unfortunately, this record took a wrong turn at the infamous Bell Gardens's USPS sorting station and ended up looking up at faces on Mt Rushmore in South Dakota. Amazingly enough, the double records arrived looking like it was sent this week!
  21. Good luck Mike (and glad to hear your vertigo gave you a break)! You guys with 78rpm records; I'm a fan of the "intangibles" that are captured on many of those old disks. Most folks who are serious about these early recordings have transferred playback to digital. If any of the members here have done this, I'm pretty good at noise reduction and have a number of apps for that purpose. Feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to do some restoration work ( once it's in digital form) for the asking.
  22. Very nice selections Mikey! I'm a huge fan of his recordings too. If you can find a nice copy, his recording of Pulcinella on Argo is sublime!
  23. Oooh Mike! You're a bad, bad man!
  24. Congrats Carl and Bonnie! Cute picture you crazy kids!
  25. Thanks all! And I love that cake Mr Tice. I treated myself to a particularly fatty ribeye last night. Mmmm!
