  1. I bought a 55 inch 4K Sony XBR tv on a black friday deal and I'm still pretty stoked every time I watch a good looking show. I paid about $760 for it and it looks like it's still just under $800 on Amazon. It was a little more than I wanted to pay but I'm glad I did. I still haven't watched any 4k content (can't say why since I have a free 4k movie coming). It comes with Android TV so I was able to use my Roku for my old tv which is in the master bedroom. The remote is pretty clunky but I keep meaning to learn on of the free ios remotes available. I agree with what Nate said about the prices on 4k tv's. They are the norm these days and I'm kind of amazed that I could get such a big, cool tv on my budget. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR55X800E-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01MSD6HHV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1515003472&sr=8-2&keywords=sony+xbr55x800e
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. Happy Birthday Knucks!
  4. Rick is a smart guy and an excellent music educator. I've learned a good bit about music from his videos. Watching this video alone is a little out of context. His target audience are musicians, composers and music technicians. If you watch many of his other videos, he gets pretty deep into things like counterpoint, jazz improvisation and mixing. I think his point with this video is that working with music isn't dependent on the things that the audiophile press would like you to think is important. Understanding what makes those emotional connections between the music and the listener is what it's all about (just like any other art form). And the nuts and bolts of making sure that important elements have just enough spotlighting at just the right moment are one of the things that makes that happen.
  5. You guys have had a dream day as far as I'm concerned! Daniel's steak still has me drooling. Guys day out?
  6. The latest Song Exploder explores "Try Not to Breath" from REM. On the 25th year after the release of Automatic For the People, Stipe and Mills talk about the creation of one my fav songs from one of my fav bands,.. evah! http://songexploder.net/
  7. Wow! Those are beauties Mike! Looks like you've done that before.
  8. Lookin' great Jacob! Steve, I can't agree with Shelly more. That was an awesome "Brent" post!
  9. I was tempted with the leather and sheepskin pads but in the last month or so my wallet has been ridden hard and put away wet (as Marshall McCloud used to say). I'd be interested how you guys like 'em once they get nice and broken in (and my finances regain consciousness).
  10. Happy Birthday buddy!
  11. Just joined a MassDrop order for Dekoni HD800 earpads. It was $49 this morning so it may go down a little. Unfortunately, I have no experience with these but considering the Amazon price is $80 for the Senn replacements, I'll give 'em a shot. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/dekoni-premium-ear-pads-for-sennheiser-hd-800?1=1&utm_placement=0&referer=69JPD7&mode=guest_open&utm_campaign=Automated Daily Promotional 2017-12-25&utm_source=SparkPost&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Daily Promotional&utm_content=1514187367394.056221453049630832774918
  12. Happy Birthday Ken! And Happy Holidays too.
  13. I'm hoping that everyone have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday!
  14. If you haven't watched a tour of the International Space Station, this one is pretty entertaining.
  15. Yup, looking forward to the antics of those kooky Peaky Blinders! Love everything about that show. Watched Godless on Rek's mention above. I thought it was excellent. Jeff Daniels is one of those actors that just seems to get better and better(er?). This is an excellent role for him. Thanks Jacob!
  16. 9.6! That second lady takes her Christmas seriously!
  17. If you're looking for a pair of monitors to only do critical listening of other components in the system, I suggest giving a pair of Amphion One 18 with one of their matching amps a listen. I did some mixing on a pair of these and while I'd never want to own a pair just for listening, they are audio microscopes. They've been the FOTM for mix engineers for a year or two and the internet is packing with raves. You can pick up a pair for around $3k USD and the matching amp is $1500 IIRC. When you get into this realm, don't buy without hearing them! Like I said, they were amazing to do a mix on but personally, I hate them. http://www.amphion.fi/en/create/products/one18/
  18. RIP Keely!
  19. Very sorry to hear of your families loss Knucks.

Thanks Mikey! I can't believe I actually remembered my login info (haven't visited Linn for years!). I'll give it a listen tonight!
  22. A friend of mine has a project to transfer 11k lp's to high rez digital. For the most part, the idea is to provide a way for his daughter and other friends and family to be able to hear his collection of Decca records. He was about half way done that last time I heard. Regarding the A700, a great "looking" machine but kind of a POS (as evidenced by their absence in the used market-but not in the landfills). The PR99 was a much better machine and closer to the Studers which reached the top of the heap while they were still being produced. I would bet that Knuck's Otari is probably a really nice machine. I've worked on plenty of the 5050 series machines and they don't take much to bring back to factory spec. One of the best 1/2" 2 track machines I've listened to was an Otari MTR 20.
  23. Oops, sorry Jim (?). I think I'm working on a new record for dumb shit posted in a single day around here.
  24. Kind of an unusual format (1/2" stereo) but there are folks who might be interested in exactly that. The Tape Project have released limited editions of their limited editions in that format for very well heeled audiophiles. And while most have gone out and had Ampex ATR100 series machines set up for that there are other folks who might jump at the chance to buy your machine and refurb it to hear what these tapes are capable of (which is pretty amazing IMHO). I would put it on ebone with a high reserve and professional packing (pallet or custom wooden crate) shipping rates.
  25. Holy shit Mike! That's a stiff bill IMHO. I'm dying to hear how well the setup works for you. Me on the other hand, I'm actually doing pretty well with the my current setup. Right offhand, I can think of just a couple of processes that make me "wait" and I don't have to use them more than a few times a year. I would love to try doing a "big mix" with 50-100 tracks of 192kHz audio to see if I could load up enough plugins to bring it to it's knees (but that's just for funzies). I can see how film studios who are using high rez cameras (8k+) will put those machines on a long wait list though. Let us know how it treats you! Misread your post. I'd still like to get my hands on one to "stress test" it.
