  1. Wow! Didn't realize that was a 4WD. That's even more messed up then in terms of his driving. When they've got power going to them, wherever you point the wheels is where they're going! Now I don't feel so sorry for him.
  2. Classic oversteer while accelerating. Dumb move. One of the first things I learned with the Atom is that you can't be turning the wheel (even a little) at the same time that you're getting on the gas while driving at slow speeds. There's just too far much power at the rear axle. It's different once you're up to a higher speed because you have momentum that will counteract the oversteer and give the rear wheels more grip. You can then lighten up on your grip of the steering wheel a bit and it will self-correct with counter-steer. My basic rule now is no hard acceleration at slow speeds unless the steering wheel is perfectly straight. When taking a turn like that, you have to ease onto the throttle and be light on your steering wheel grip. I really feel for the guy. He's got damage on the front, on both sides, and even to his ego!
  3. RIP Donna. TMI Steve.
  4. I determined once and for all that I'll never lend anyone a car again, ever. Nothing good ever comes out of the experience. Last 4 times I've done so has resulted in one problem or another. This time my turn signal stalk is no longer returning to the off position after I straighten the wheel back out. Doesn't matter if I'm turning left or right.
  5. Lightweights!
  6. Hey!!! That had nothing to do with tree branches!!! I forget what some of you people know sometimes... too funny. I was wearing my UE10s and listening to an unfamiliar Beatles song. The last thing I remember, prior to seeing the turn that I could not possibly make... was that I was wondering to myself, "Is that George singing the lead? What a shame... they really bullied him around a lot... he being the youngest... never got his fair share of the spotlight... it was always John and Paul..."
  7. ^ He must have really been moving to cause that much damage. My guess is he's not an owner/operator! I've found that I really have to be careful not to get too far off of the interstate system in my motorhome which is 13'2" high (built on a Volvo semi truck chassis). Plus, it's 84 feet long counting the trailer which is almost always attached. So I don't have nearly the tight turning radius that these guys do. That, and they couldn't give a shit if they scratch up anything but their cabs, and that goes even for the owner/operators.
  8. Rumors of Joe's death have been greatly exaggerated...
  9. What a long winded, esoteric and "artistic" way of saying, "I hope you like like this album, it's really just a bunch of random stuff..."
  10. You guys are in Wyoming, or there's a restaurant I don't know? Dang! Now I see. Looks good. http://www.jacksonholeburgers.com/
  11. ^ Yes, he was one of the greats. RIP. I had seen this news elsewhere tonight and have been watching clips of his work for some time. The man sure could groove.
  12. That's wonderful stuff, Dinny! Being proud of your mom is pretty cool as well. Speaking of which... my mom has similar interests and talents. She has taught adult education (GED program) at a community college for 30+ years, and has worked in a separate program to assist teenage mothers with their education and general life skills. She's passionate about her work, and has made a real difference for a lot of these girls. But sometimes I think they like her too much! Just the other day, she got her first 3rd generation teenage mom. The 33 year-old grandmother brought her daughter in (along with the baby) and asked, "Do you remember me?" My mom said, "Why yes, Jessica... and I remember your mom as well..." Apparently, Jessica was a 6 year-old when they first met. Mom told me, "Thank God this baby was a boy!"
  13. Happy birthday!
  14. Happy birthday, Shelly!
  15. Happy birthday, Ari.
  16. Wet t-shirt contest winner! I applaud the man.
  17. Above quote taken out of context, of course, but... ya. I think that was what people were saying towards the beginning of this thread.

  19. Just guessing you may have some conductivity issues. Might want to stick with wire.
  20. Definitely two of the key culprits.
  21. Stacken. There's another one. You're on a roll.

  23. Which just proves that you need all kinds. I'm not really down with the 'academics hate' thing, I guess because my academic background has served me well and has likewise helped me to make a real difference in the lives of many of my students over the years. As with just about any form of learning or growing, formal education (academia) has its place in society. It's not for everyone, but fuck anyone who thinks it serves no real purpose because he/she/it (<-- the hermaphrodite straw man) would be wrong.
  24. Let me shoot you real quick... before I shoot you! I've got a couple of HC threads I need to update...
